  • The purpose of this study is to guide the direction of the Korean nursing education to analysize ⑴ the philosophy and objectives ⑵ curriculum, and ⑶ educational environment. This analysis is based on the data from 50 nursing schools (14 4-year colleges and 35 3-year colleges) The survey was conducted from Dec. 1986 through Jan. 1987 by mail. 1) Educational philosophy and objectives 10 4-year colleges and 8 3-year college program have curricular philosoph. Most popular curricular philosophies are human beings, health, nursing, nursology, nursing education, nurses role in the present and in the future. 10 nursing schools mentioned that human being is the subject to interact with : environment physically, mentally and socially. 2 schools mentioned that health is the state of functioning well physically, mentally and socially. 13 schools mentioned that the nursing is the dynamic act to maintain and to promote the highest possible level of health. 4 schools mentioned that the nursology is an applied science. 4 schools mentioned that nursing education is the process to induce the behavioural changes based on the individual ability. There is different opinion about the nurses' role between 4-year college and 3-year college. In the responses from 4-year colleges they focus on the leadership in effective changes, self-regulating and self-determining responsibilities, applying the new technology, continuing education, and participation in research to further nursing knowledge. In the responses from 3-year colleges, they focus on the education in college, primary health care nursing, direct care provider and public health education. Among 50 respondents 40 schools have educational goals which can be divided into two categories. One is to establish the moral and the other is to develop the professionalism. 2) Curriculm The analsis of curriculum is only based on the data from the 4-year colleges because the most of 3-year colleges follow the curriculum guideline set by the Ministry of Education. a) Comparison of the credits in cultural subject and in nursing major. The average required credit for graduation is 154.6 and the median credit is the range of 140-149. The average credit of cultural subjects is 43.4. • To understand and analyze the variety of the subject access methods of OPACs, telephone interviews were administered to the computerized libraries in Seoul. Data was collected during 4 days in Feb. 1997, and 155 libraries were responded. It was found that 105 libraries are operating OPACs. Among the 105 libraries, almost of all provide classification number and title keyword access, however, only half of them provide subject name access. 18 libraries allow linking/browsing facility between classification number and subject name/keyword. The language of the subject name to oriental books is mainly Korean and that to the Western books is mainly English. LCSH is the major authority list used. 36 libraries, 2/3 of them are special libraries, subject name is assigned by librarian without control. Based on the results, problems and suggestions to enhance subject access capability are presented.

  • Myoepithelioma is a rare benign neoplasm that mostly arises in the major salivary glands and sometimes in the minor salivary glands, which account only for less than 1% of all salivary glands neoplasms. However, its extra-salivary involvement is even rarer and only a few cases of nasal cavity myoepithelioma were reported in the English-language literature so far. In this case report, we present a 40-year-old female with unilateral nasal obstruction diagnosed as myoepithelioma of the nasal septum and treated with endoscopic sinus surgery.

  • Recently, a technique for applying a deep learning language model pretrained from a large corpus to fine-tuning for each application task has been widely used as a language processing technology. The pretrained language model shows higher performance and satisfactory generalization performance than existing methods. This paper introduces the major research trends related to deep learning pretrained language models in the field of language processing. We describe in detail the motivations, models, learning methods, and results of the BERT language model that had significant influence on subsequent studies. Subsequently, we introduce the results of language model studies after BERT, focusing on SpanBERT, RoBERTa, ALBERT, BART, and ELECTRA. Finally, we introduce the KorBERT pretrained language model, which shows satisfactory performance in Korean language. In addition, we introduce techniques on how to apply the pretrained language model to Korean (agglutinative) language, which consists of a combination of content and functional morphemes, unlike English (refractive) language whose endings change depending on the application.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to propose a methodology to derive positive keywords and negative keywords through deep learning to classify reviews into positive reviews and negative ones, and then refine the results of topic modeling using these keywords. Design/methodology/approach In this study, we extracted topic keywords by performing LDA-based topic modeling. At the same time, we performed attention-based deep learning to identify positive and negative keywords. Finally, we refined the topic keywords using these keywords as filters. Findings We collected and analyzed about 6,000 English reviews of Gyeongbokgung, a representative tourist attraction in Korea, from Tripadvisor, a representative travel site. Experimental results show that the proposed methodology properly identifies positive and negative keywords describing major topics.

  • Myoepithelioma is histologically composed exclusively of myoepithelial cells. Myoepithelial cells are present in the major and minor salivary glands. Salivary gland neoplasms that frequently contain myoepithelial cells are the pleomorphic adenoma, adenoid-cystic carcinoma, and epithelial myoepithelial carcinoma of intercalated duct origin. Neoplasms composed exclusively of myoepithelial cells are rare. Myoepitheliomas may be composed of spindle-shaped cells, plasmacytoid(hyaline) cells, or combination of both in varying proportions. A case is reported of plasmacytoid myoepithelioma with ultrastructural confirmation, together with reviews of the English literature.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the viability of simulating one dialect with the speech segments of another dialect through prosody cloning. The hypothesis is that, among Korean regional dialects, it is not the segmental differences but the prosodic differences that play a major role in authentic dialect perception. This work intends to support the hypothesis by simulating Masan dialect with the speech segments from Seoul dialect. The dialect simulation was performed by transplanting the prosodic features of Masan utterances unto the same utterances produced by a Seoul speaker. Thus, the simulated Masan utterances were composed of Seoul speech segments but their prosody came from the original Masan utterances. The prosodic features involved were the fundamental frequency contour, the segmental durations, and the intensity contour. The simulated Masan utterances were evaluated by four native Masan speakers and the role of prosody in dialect authentication and speech synthesis was discussed.
