An adjustable, louver-type wind barrier was introduced in this study for improving the running safety and ride comfort of train on the bridge under the undesirable wind environment. The aerodynamic characteristics of both train and bridge due to this novel wind barrier was systematically investigated based on the wind tunnel tests. It is suggested that rotation angles of the adjustable blade of the louver-type wind barrier should be controlled within $90^{\circ}$ to achieve an effective solution in terms of the overall aerodynamic performance of the train. Compared to the traditional grid-type wind barrier, the louver-type wind barrier generally presents better aerodynamic performance. Specifically, the larger decrease of the lift force and overturn moment of the train and the smaller increase of the drag force and torsional moment of the bridge resulting from the louver-type wind barrier were highlighted. Finally, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique was applied to explore the underlying mechanism of aerodynamic control using the proposed wind barrier.

To investigate the optimal aerodynamic parameters of wind barriers for the T-beam of high-speed railway (HSR) bridge and the wind field of the wind barrier-train-bridge system, the three-component forces of the system and the wind pressure on the vehicle surface were tested and analyzed through the sectional model wind test. The effects of wind velocity, with/without wind barrier, the height of wind barrier, and the air permeability of the wind barrier on the aerodynamic characteristics of the train-bridge system are discussed. Additionally, a CFD numerical model is constructed to evaluate the wind environment of the bridge surface with/without the wind barrier, and the impact of wind barrier on the running safety of vehicles are analyzed. Comprehensively considering the running safety of the train and the wind-resistant stability of the bridge, it is more appropriate to set the wind barrier height H as 3.5 m and the porosity 𝛽 as 30% respectively.
The research and development of high-performance polymer materials with excellent gas barrier properties has gained considerable attention from the viewpoint of expanding their applications in various fields, including tire automobile parts and the polymer film industry. Natural rubber (NR) has been widely used as a rubber material in real-life, but its application is limited owing to its poor gas barrier properties. In this paper, we study the gas barrier properties of NR, epoxidized natural rubber (ENR), and their blend compositions by using molecular simulation. The results show that ENR-50 has superior oxygen barrier properties than those of NR. Moreover, the oxygen barrier properties of a blend of NR/ENR-50 improve with increasing volume fraction of ENR-50. The trend of improved oxygen barrier properties of NR, ENR-50, and their blend is in good agreement with experimental observations.

The high heat emitted from the process module and heat jacket may cause errors in semiconductor process equipment. Barriers were designed to reduce the temperature of surface on transfer module. A designed barrier was compared and analyzed by numerical analysis using ANSYS Fluent. The average temperature of barrier and effect of radiation heat transfer were also compared through absorbed radiative heat flux of the barrier. The adoption of the barrier had an effect on the radiative heat transfer reduction of the transfer module rod. The effect of the angles of barrier from 50° to 90° on the heat transfer was investigated using the absorbed radiative heat flux with the average temperature. The angle of barrier of 50° reduced the temperature up to 9.6 %.
To investigate the reliability of the MTJs on the roughness of insulating tunnel barrier, we prepared two MTJs with the different uniformity of barrier thickness. Namely, the one has uniform insulating barrier thickness; the other has non-uniform insulating barrier thickness as compared to different thing. As to depositing amorphous layer CoZrNb under the pinning layer IrMn, we achieved MTJ with uniform barrier thickness. Toinvestigate the reliability of the MTJs dependent on the bottom electrode, time-dependent dielectric breakdown (TDDB) measurements were carried out under constant voltage stress. The Weibull fit of out data shows clearly that $t_{BD}$ scales with the thickness uniformity of MTJs tunnel barrier. Assuming a linear dependence of log($t_{BD}$) on stress voltages, we obtained the lifetime of $10^4$years at a operating voltage of 0.4 V at MTJs comprising CoNbZr layers. This study shows that the reliabilityof new MTJs structure was improved due to the ultra smooth barrier, because the surface roughness of the bottom electrode influenced the uniformity of tunnel barrier.

The memory characteristics of charge trap flash (CTF) with $HfO_2$ charge trap layer were investigated. Especially, we focused on the effects of tunnel barrier engineering consisted of $SiO_2/Si_3N_4/SiO_2$ (ONO) stack or $Si_3N_4/SiO_2/Si_3N_4$ (NON) stack. The programming and erasing characteristics were significantly enhanced by using ONO or NON tunnel barrier. These improvement are due to the increase of tunneling current by using engineered tunnel barrier. As a result, the engineered tunnel barrier is a promising technique for non-volatile flash memory applications.

In this study, the diffusion barrier properties of $1000\AA$ thick molybdenum compounds (Mox=1-5 Si) were investigated using sheet resistance measurements, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and Rutherford back scattering spectrometry (RBS). Each barrier material was deposited by the de and rf magnetron co-sputtering of Mo and Si, respectively, and annealed at $500-700^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in vacuum. Each barrier material was failed at low temperatures due to Cu diffusion through grain boundaries and defects of barrier thin films or through the reaction of Cu with Si within Mo-barrier thin films. It was found that Mo rich thin films were less effective than Si rich films to Cu penetration activating Cu reaction with the substrate at a temperature higher than $500^{\circ}C$.

In the response to an increasing demand for electrical energy, much effort aimed to develop and commercialise HTS power equipments is going on around the world. For the development, it is necessary to establish the dielectric technology in $LN_2$. Hence many types of dielectric tests should be carried out to understand the dielectric phenomena at cryogenic temperature and to gather various dielectric data. Among the many types dielectric tests, the barrier effect were conducted with the simulated electrode after analysing the insulating configuration of the pancake coil type HTS transformer. The influence of a barrier on the dielectric strength was measured according to the size and the position of the barrier. It was shown that the effectiveness, the ratio of the breakdown voltage in presence of barrier to the voltage without barrier, is highest when the barrier is placed at the needle electrode side. And the barrier effect was not depend on the electrode array. The life time to breakdown with decreasing the applied voltage was increased remarkably having wide error band but the shape parameter in Weibull distribution was almost constant.
Experimental and numerical investigations were conducted to study the performance of a surface-fixed horizontal porous wave barrier in regular waves. The characteristics of the reflection and transmission coefficients, energy dissipation, and vertical wave force were examined versus different porosities of the barrier. Numerical simulations based on 3D Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations with standard low-Re k-ε turbulent closure and volume of fluid approach were accomplished and compared with the experimental results conducted in a 2D wave tank. Experimental measurements and numerical simulations were shown to be in satisfactory agreement. The qualitative wave behavior propagating over a horizontal porous barrier such as wave run-up, wave breaking, air entrapment, jet flow, and vortex generation was reproduced by CFD computation. Through the discrete harmonic decomposition of the vertical wave force on a wave barrier, the nonlinear characteristics were revealed quantitatively. It was concluded that the surface-fixed horizontal barrier is more effective in dissipating wave energy in the short wave period region and more energy conversion was observed from the first harmonic to higher harmonics with the increase of porosity. The present numerical approach will provide a predictive tool for an accurate and efficient design of the surface-fixed horizontal porous wave barrier.
A transparent plasma display was developed using transparent glass barrier ribs. Glass barrier ribs were fabricated via a wet etching process. Glass barrier ribs created using a top and bottom etching process showed better transparency compared to those created through only a top etching process. A see-through phosphor layer was obtained by coating the sidewall of the barrier ribs with a conventional opaque phosphor. A fabricated prototype of a transparent plasma display was clear enough to see the background beyond the panel and was well operated by a conventional driving scheme. The maximum luminance was 1150 cd/$m^2$ and the maximum luminous efficacy was 1.35 lm/W in a Ne+13.5%Xe gas-mixture and green cells.
