전문가 인식 조사에 의한 공학 설계 능력의 정의 및 하위 영역과 요소 도출 (Abstraction of the Definition of Engineering Design Ability and its Subdivision and Element by the Survey of Experts' Recognition)

  • The purpose of this research is to consider theoretical points of view on a preceding research related to an engineering design and abstract the definition of engineering design ability, its subdivision and element on the basis of experts' recognition. To achieve this goal, various literature researches were carried out by examining domestic and foreign articles in journals, lots of dissertations, and books related to engineering design through theoretical consideration. And to secure the validity on the definition of engineering design ability, its subdivision and element through the theoretical study, a feasibility evaluation method by the experts was applied. And the feasibility evaluation of the experts was conducted through 2 stages. The major conclusions of this study are as follows. Firstly, based on the experts' recognition on the definition of engineering design ability, its subdivision and element, which were revised through the 1st feasibility evaluation and then utilized in the 2st one, the validity was confirmed, and the subdivisions of the engineering design ability were divided into 5 and the elements of the subdivision ability were 33. Secondly, the engineering design ability was defined as "the one to design a realizable product with consumers' demand fully satisfying, based on a knowledge application ability, thinking ability, communication ability, problem-solving ability, and teamwork ability to solve engineering problems." Thirdly, the subdivisions of the engineering design ability were divided as a knowledge application ability, thinking ability, communication ability, problem-solving ability, and teamwork ability.

신형원전 주제어실 인적요소 검증을 위한 인적수행도 평가척도 개발 (Development of Human Performance Measures for Human Factors Validation in Advanced Nuclear Power Plants)

  • Main control room(MCR) man-machine interface(MMI) design of advanced nuclear power plants(NPPs) such as APR(advanced power reactor)-1400 can be validated through performance-based tests to determine whether it acceptably supports safe operation of the plant. In this work, plant performance, personnel task, situation awareness, workload, teamwork, and anthropometric/physiological factor are considered as factors for the human performance evaluation. For development of measures in each of the factors, techniques generally used in various industries and empirically proven to be useful are adopted as main measures and some helpful techniques are developed in order to complement the main measures. Also the development of the measures is addressed based on the theoretical background. Finally we discuss the way in which the measures can be effectively integrated and then HUPESS(HUman Performance Evaluation Support System) which is in development based on the integrated way is briefly introduced.

프로젝트 학습을 적용한 공학컴퓨터프로그래밍 수업 효과 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Engineering Computer Programming Instruction Using Project Learning)

  • 본 논문은 프로젝트 학습을 적용한 공학컴퓨터프로그래밍 수업의 효과를 분석하고 그 문제점을 찾아 수업을 개선하는 데에 목적이 있다. 전통적인 강의 수업과는 달리, 본 공학컴퓨터프로그래밍 수업에서는 프로그래밍 프로젝트를 통하여 공학적 문제들을 해결하게 함으로써 학생들이 문제해결 능력과 팀워크 능력 등을 함양할 수 있도록 하였다. 프로젝트 학습의 효과를 알아보기 위해 수강생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문은 크게 5개 영역(학습효과, 학습량, 능력습득, 과제, 의견), 5점 척도형 문항으로 총 20개였으며, SPSS 통계프로그램을 사용하여 상관분석, ANOVA 등을 실시하였다. 연구결과에 의하면, (1) 프로젝트 학습은 강의식 수업에 비하여 실제 문제를 해결하고 팀워크 능력을 함양하는데 효과적으로 나타났으며, (2) 자기주도학습력과 정보수집력은 유의미한 상관이 있었고, (3) 가상 학습 공간은 자율학습을 하는데 도움이 되는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 (4) 과제의 분배나 학습난이도에 대해서는 부정적인 결과가 나타났다. 결론적으로 좀더 나은 프로젝트 학습을 위해서는 학생의 수준에 맞는 과제를 개발하는 일이 요구된다고 할 수 있다.

설계위주 실험교육에 의한 협동학습 능력 강화 (Reinforcement of Teamwork Ability thru Design Based Experimental Education)

  • 공학인으로 갖추어야 할 능력 중에서 문제를 인식하고, 이를 공식화 한 후 창의적이며 체계적으로 해결해 나갈 수 있는 능력을 길러주기 위한 방법으로 설계교육을 체계적으로 해 가는 것이 효과적이다. 이를 위하여 본 대학에서는 1학년에서 창의력을 길러주며, 효과적인 설계 추진 과정을 길러주기 위한 공학설계입문을 개설하여 운영하고 있다. 또한 나머지 학년에서도 실험과 설계가 융합된 과목, 이론과 설계가 융합된 과목을 개설하여 각종 설계문제를 해결하도록 교육하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 2학년의 교과목 중 기존의 실험실습 과목을 실험과 설계가 융합된 새로운 개념의 과목으로 개편하여 지난 2년간 운영해온 실적을 분석하여 공학인증에서 요구하는 학습성과 중 팀원으로써의 역할 수행능력이 증가함을 보여준다. 뿐만 아니라, 교과운영 내용을 비교적 상세히 소개하여 공학인증에서 요구하는 설계교육을 효율적으로 운영하는 예시를 보여주며, 주요한 학습성과를 달성하는 한 방법을 제시한다.

미국 Virginia Tech 공학교육과에서의 공학교육 혁신 (Innovation of Engineering Education in Department of Engineering Education at Virginia Tech in the United States)

  • In 2004, a department of engineering education was established at Virginia Tech and Purdue university in the United States. Innovation of engineering education for improving the quality of engineering college education has been progressing. Content of subject of engineering exploration was developed newly for engineering college freshmen. And, effect of a sustainable energy design project on academic achievement for engineering freshmen at Virginia Tech in 2006 was researched. The project was performed throughout a 6 weeks period with one by 50 minutes lecture by professor and one 90 minutes workshop by TAs (Teaching Assistants) every week. To analyze the data, statistical package SPSS (ver. 15.0) was used. In responses to an open-ended question about freshmen students' perceptions of their improvement in design skills, the 3 most identified skills were teamwork, design process, knowledge. In, Korea, an innovation relating to engineering curriculum, facility, instructional strategy and so on will be required.

자기 보고식 공학설계 역량 검사 도구 개발 (Development of The Self-Reported Measurement for Engineering Design Competency)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the self-reported measurement for engineering design competency. In this study, engineering design competency is defined as the overall individual ability that is necessary for an engineer for his/her successful accomplishment of engineering design. This measurement was developed through reviewing documents, defining factor and sub-factor, making an item and constructing validity verification. The self-reported measurement for engineering design competency consists of 6 factors and 40 items. 6 factors cover competency of design performance, competency of considering economic and social influence, competency of utilizing mathematical and scientific knowledge, competency of teamwork, competency of design-centered thinking and competency of collecting and using data. A 6-points Likert scale was used for each item.

  • Despite its ineffectiveness, the dominant pedagogy for engineering education is still "chalk & talk". Meanwhile, student-centered learning models have been highlighted for strong communication, teamwork skills, deep understanding and analysis on social, environmental and economic issues as well as application of their engineering knowledge in practice. Among others, on problem- and project-based learning, this article examines theoretical background and detailed features and a comparison between both learning models including common and different features from the previous theoretical and empirical studies. It reviews some cases of where they have been practiced successfully in engineering, and further, applied strategies for engineering education are suggested.

공학교육에서의 팀 학습 운영 실태 분석 (Analysis of Current Status of Team Learning in Engineering Education)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the current status of team learning in engineering education. For this, literature review and survey were used. The survey was conducted with 16 professors and 627 students in engineering college. Based on the results, team should be organized in consideration of various characteristics and competencies for effective team learning activities in engineering education. And in the team learning operations, it is necessary to make the conditions for students to immerse in team learning through the activation of communication of team members, tightening management of free riding in team learning, and optimizing team learning period. It is necessary to use the team learning evaluation method in harmony with the team, individual and peer evaluation.

6-sigma 방법론을 적용한 종합설계 교육모델 개발 (Development of Capstone Design Education Model Using 6-sigma Methodology)

  • Capstone design education is essential in the engineering design process according to the certification standards of ABEEK. Capstone design process should be properly trained in undergraduate courses in order to increase the design ability of systems, components and processes within realistic constraints. In this study, a modified design model as a capstone design education model was proposed to reduce the separation between the design process at industrial sites and the design process at university education. The modified design model based on 6-sigma methodology is composed of 6 design steps such as define, measure, analyse, design, verify, and report. Each step has appropriated design contents and tools, and is configured to generate design results. The proposed design model was directly applied to the capstone design class for automotive engineering in Kunsan National University, and it was confirmed that the proposed DMADVR methodology was a very useful design education model to enhance the design ability, teamwork ability and communication skills required by ABEEK.

Model for Predicting Success of Partnering in Vietnam: A Discriminant Analysis Approach

  • Partnering concept has been mentioned as an innovative arrangement that helps to reduce many of the disadvantages of the traditional arrangement. Partnering in construction has been widely applied in Vietnam from late 1990s. The application of the new has arrangement spread thanks to anecdotal proofs. This concept is quite new to Vietnamese practitioners. It is necessary to conduct study as a lesson-learn of the industry to encourage the partnering implementation. This paper attempts to develop a model, using discriminant analysis, which classifies the partnering in construction projects into success levels. Dedication, teamwork, sufficiency, and balance are the four significant components in discriminant model. The proposed model is helpful to practitioners in developing, adjusting and improving their strategy for partnering implementation.
