산업공학에서의 창의설계 교육 사례연구 - 제품가족디자인을 중심으로 (Development of Creative Design Coursework in Industrial Engineering - Focus on the Product Family Design)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 제품가족 디자인 과목을 사례로 하여 교과과정을 재구성하고 실제 교육을 실현한 내용을 소개함으로써 산업공학에서 창의공학 설계 및 교육의 모형과 그 가능성을 을 제시하는 데 있다. 수시로 변하는 고객요구와 모델의 다양화 및 기술의 변화는 제품의 맞춤 생산과 시장 및 고객에 따른 차별화를 필요로 하며 이를 위해서 플랫폼에 기초한 제품가족 개념을 이용한 대량 맞춤화 (Mass customization)의 적용이 아주 중요하다. 제품가족이란 공통의 특성, 구성품과 서브시스템을 공유하는 상호 연관된 일련의 제품으로서 다양한 시장 분야를 충족시킨다. 제품가족의 모델링은 효과적인 제품의 개발과 제품 플랫폼 및 공통 부품과 기능을 개발하는데 아주 중요한 분야이며 학생들의 창의적인 노력이 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 목적을 위해서 개발된 교육과정을 창의 설계의 관점에서 교육하고, 실습을 통해서 학생들의 교육의 만족도 및 그 수업 참여도를 높임으로써 변화된 공학교육의 새로운 방향을 제시해 보고자 한다.

감성공학을 이용한 미래지향적 신제품개발에 관한 연구 (A kansei engineering method to convert subjective customer requirements into product design functions)

  • This paper presents a conceptual approach to convert customer requirements expressed in ordinary language into a form of qualitative and quantitative functions for developing new products. This approach attempts to combine the concepts of the value engineering and the Kansei engineering. It emphasizes that customer require- ments should be interpreted and reflected on the design of new product. Specific are discussed for extracting subjective requirements and transforming them into qualitative and quantitative functions for product design. This approach is expected to provide the product designer with a systematic efficient tool for incorporating subjective requirements into a product design.

  • In product design, the initial design stage is being increasingly emphasized because it significantly influences the successive product development and production stages. However, for larger and more complex products, it is very difficult to accurately predict product reliability in the initial design stage. Various design methodologies have been proposed to resolve this issue, but maintaining reliability while exploring design alternatives is yet to be achieved. Therefore, this paper proposes a methodology for conceptual design considering reliability issues that may arise in the successive detailed design stages. The methodology integrates the independency of axiomatic design and the hierarchical structure of failure mode, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA), which is a technique widely used to analyze product reliability. We applied the proposed methodology to a liquefied natural gas fuel gas supply system to verify its effectiveness in the reliability improvement of the design process.

A Quantitative Study of Influencing Factors on Crowd Participation in a Crowdsourcing Project for Consumer Product Design

  • Nowadays, crowdsourcing has become a popular concept and is widely used in many social, economical and technological areas. For consumer product design, crowdsourcing is implemented extensively with many cases. Although there has been a lot of research on the application of crowdsourcing for product design, the big picture of how factors influence the participartion of individuals from the crowd in a crowdsourcing project for product design has not yet been understood. This paper aims to investigate the relationships of crowd participation and influencing factors including: process, product, and reward. To do this, we conducted a survey on a crowd of engineering individuals and analyzed the collected data with data mining techniques. Main findings include the relationships of crowd participation versus process, product, and reward factors as well as regression models to predict crowd participation.

제품 설계 단계에서의 제품 원가 추정 시스템 개발 (The Development of an Product Cost Estimation System at the Product Design Stage)

  • Presented in this paper is the development of an product cost estimation system at the product design stage. The efficient cost estimation function at the design stage is essential for the cost reduction activities through the entire product life cycle. For this purpose, it is necessary to establish a systematic working procedure, and to develop information system for managing a great deal of production and product-related data required for the cost estimation. The developed system has the capability of estimating a cost of assembly type products as well as unit-item type products. As proposed system is based on the variant approach, it can be used easily at an early design stage without the need for detail design information. Also, this system is integrated with legacy PDM (Product Data Management) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system for fast. accurate and easy product cost estimation. The estimated cost includes material cost, overhead cost as well as labor cost.

학제간 팀별 설계프로젝트 기반 산학공동 공학설계교육 (Industry Joint Engineering Education Via Interdisciplinary Team-based Product Development Project)

  • The paper addresses an issue of industry-joint engineering education paradigm with the purpose of setting a new standard for engineering education by development and support of competitive curriculum for the interdisciplinary team-based product development, a specialized and innovative engineering education program. In the department of MSDE (Mechanical and System Design Engineering), students are educated via three major courses for targeting engineering design, Creative Engineering Design (freshman), Design Process (Senior), and Creative Product Development (Junior). All these courses are based on personal tool exercises for design software and hardware and team-project group activities of the students with other team members. This paper will briefly discuss the main focuses of these courses and case studies of the teaching results targeting the development of telecommunication device.

  • In recent years, dramatic advances in information technology have motivated the construction industry to improve its productivity. Computer-based information technology includes Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Digital Mock-Up (DMU) and Product Data Management (PDM). Most construction industries are trying to apply these technologies for quality improvement, reduction of construction time and cost. PDM is very useful for managing data and process related to product design and manufacturing. PDM system has various functions such as drawing and engineering document management, product structure and structure modification management, part classification management, workflow management, and project management. In this paper, PDM system was applied to the design of steel-concrete composite girder bridge. To make a practical guidance for PDM implementation to bridge design, the procedure for its implementation was presented. Consequently, this paper could be useful to enhance the efficiency of bridge design.

Integrated Product Design Development

  • The terminology such as ecology, environment problems, ecosystems, ecofactory, and others related to environmental problems have been recently used in manufacturing systems, since the modern industries have to consider a global ecological crisis. The indifference of recent environmental problems which may be faced now has been paid attention to all engineering areas. In this paper, manufacturing functional requirements such as disassembly, disposal, disposal, or recycling are considered in the integrated product design development, which have not been considered well in the preliminary design stage. Those functions will contribute to reduce the waste and to long the product life cycle, which also satisfies the business benefits and customer requirements. The concurrent design concepts should be applied to integrate all possible factors. Therefore, few practical concurrent engineering tools are presented in here. The objective of this paper is to develop a called green manufacturing systems for integrated product design development by concurrent design concept which can give the desirable result in product design.

Crowd Participation Pattern in the Phases of a Product Development Process that Utilizes Crowdsourcing

  • The rise of crowdsourcing and web 2.0 opens plenty of opportunities for companies who want to exploit external sources of ideas for internal innovation. Utilization of crowdsourcing for product design and development has been attracting the attention of both enterprises and researchers. Many cases of implementation of crowdsourcing for product design and development such as: Threadless, FIAT Mio, Lego online Factory, etc., have made crowdsourcing a promising alternative source of innovative power. Although crowdsourcing gained access due to improved Internet access and web 2.0, it is little understood how the crowd, with respect to participation, behaves for any crowdsourcing project. To investigate this, we conducted an experiment on a real crowd of engineering related individuals to figure out the crowd participation pattern for various product design and development phases of a new product development project. The experiment results give a quantitative view of the participation of the crowd (i.e., crowd participation pattern) in various phases of a product design and development process that utilizes crowdsourcing, provide a practical guidance for companies to harness the power of the crowd sensibly, and provide experimental data for further research in this field.
