This study investigates the lubrication characteristics of fuel injection pumps with reference to different fuel oils. Medium-speed diesel engines use fuel oils with various viscosities, such as heavy fuel oil (HFO, which is a high-viscosity fuel oil) and light diesel oil (LDO, which is a low-viscosity fuel oil). When fuel oil with a low viscosity is used, both fuel oil and lubricating oil lubricate the system. Thus, the lubrication of the fuel injection pump is in a multi-viscosity condition when the fuel oil in use changes. We suggest three cases of multi-viscosity models, and divide the fuel injection pump into three lubrication sections: a, the new oil section; b, the mixed oil section; and c, the used oil section. This study compares the lubrication characteristics with variation of the multi-viscosity model, clearance. The volume of Section b does not affect the lubrication characteristics. The lubrication characteristics of the fuel injection pump are poor when high-viscosity fuel oil transfers to low-viscosity fuel oil. This occurs because the viscosity in the new oil section (i.e., Section a) dominates the lubrication characteristics of the fuel injection pump. However, the lubricant oil supply in the used oil section (i.e., Section c) can improve the lubrication characteristics in this condition. Moreover, the clearances of the stem and head significantly influence the lubrication characteristics when the fuel oil changes.

The biodiesel used as an alternative fuel for diesel engines is well- known, however the price of the bio-diesel is still higher than conventional diesel oil (DO) by 10% to 15% depending on a kind of bio-oil and a country producing the bio-diesel. One of idea to reduce the price of bio-diesel is to use the pure bio-oil as fuel for marine diesel engines, because to use the pure bio-oil as fuel without the esteritification process can reduce the price of bio-fuel. At present time, some experts in some countries who have been carrying out experiments on the use of pure bio-oil produced from rape seeds, sunflower seeds... as fuel for marine diesel engines have achieved important results. In recent years, at Vietnam Maritime University we also have been using the pure palm oil and its blended fuel (Palm oil and DO) as fuel for marine diesel engines in laboratory and on board of ships. The blended fuel is a mixing fuel of the pure palm oil and diesel oil with content of pure palm oil by 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 35%. In this paper, we would like to present some results from our experiments to investigate the impacts of using the palm oil and its blended fuel on the important technical features of the fuel supply system of marine diesel engines such as the fuel supply amount for one cycle, fuel supplying pressure, ignition delay time and so on. The results from the research will be good fundamental parameters to support proper operation of marine diesel engines using bio-oil and blended fuels as alternative fuel in near future.
A real object duplication system (RODS), including three dimensional (3D) scanner and solid freeform fabrication system (SFFS), is a device to make three-dimensional objects directly from the drawing or photo data. A Selective Multi-Laser Sintering (SMLS) process designed in this paper is by which computer images received using 3D scanner are built up from polymer powder on building room of large size using dual laser at industrial type SFF system. Using the process can rapidly produce real object duplication components of industrial type such as cylinder, engine block, chassis of automobile, etc. In this paper, the industrial type SFF system using SMLS process is manufactured and the system is satisfied with high precision and high speed processing technique. To research characteristics of each part for theindustrial type SFF system, a structure and thermal analysis and test of each part is carried out. Also, to achievement of high performance for industrial type SFF system, design and fabrication for the structure, heater, nitrogen supply, laser and control part are carried out.

In the design of production system, buffer capacity allocation is a major step. Through polymorphism analysis of production capacity and production capability, this paper investigates a buffer allocation optimization problem aiming at the multi-stage production line including unreliable machines, which is concerned with maximizing the system theoretical production rate and minimizing the system state entropy for a certain amount of buffers simultaneously. Stochastic process analysis is employed to establish Markov models for repairable modular machines. Considering the complex structure, an improved vector UGF (Universal Generating Function) technique and composition operators are introduced to construct the system model. Then the measures to assess the system's multi-state reliability and structural complexity are given. Based on system theoretical production rate and system state entropy, mathematical model for buffer capacity optimization is built and optimized by a specific genetic algorithm. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by an application of an engine head production line.

Micro catalytic reactors are alternative propulsion device that can be used on a nano satellite. When used with a monopropellant, $H_2O_2$, a micro catalytic reactor needs only one supply system as the monopropellant reacts spontaneously on contact with catalyst and releases heat without external ignition, while separate supply lines for fuel and oxidizer are needed for a bipropellant rocket engine. Additionally, $H_2O_2$ is in liquid phase at room temperature, eliminating the burden of storage for gaseous fuel and carburetion of liquid fuel. In order to design a micro catalytic reactor, an appropriate catalyst material must be selected. Considering the safety concern in handling the monopropellants and reaction performance of catalyst, we selected hydrogen peroxide at volume concentration of 70% and perovskite redox catalyst of lantanium cobaltate doped with strondium. Perovskite catalysts are known to have superior reactivity in reduction-oxidation chemical processes. In particular, lantanium cobaltate has better performance in chemical reactions involving oxygen atom exchange than other perovskite materials. In the present study, a process to prepare perovskite type catalyst, $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}CoO_3$, and measurement of its propellant decomposition performance in a test reactor are described.
The temperature distribution in a surface of diesel particulate filter(DPF) was measured using an infrared temperature camera. In order to regenerate the DPF, five partitioned electric heaters were used for heating the ceramic filter. The five partitioned heaters were switched on/off with some time interval one the other. The surface temperature distribution in the ceramic filter and electric heaters were measured with varying both the electrical power supply to the heaters and the mass flow rate of the air supply from a blower. The higher mass flow rate in the DPF system enhanced the uniformity in the surface temperature distribution of the ceramic filter due to effective convection heat transfer. The flow in the monolith ceramic structure of the DPF move mainly in the axial direction, which could be identified from the surface temperature of the ceramic filter.

Diesel fuel is expensive because transportation to remote areas adds extra cost, and it causes air pollution by engine exhaust. Providing a feasible economical and environmental solution to diesel generators is important. A hybrid system of renewable plants and diesel generators can benefit islands or other isolated communities and increase fuel savings. Renewable energy is, however, a natural source that produces a fluctuating power output. In this paper, hybrid power system of the marado lighthouse is proposed to supply stable power in the stand-alone hybrid power system. The proposed hybrid power system consists of the diesel generator, wind turbine, photovoltaic, fuel cell, and battery bank. To decrease the carbon emissions and find the optimization, the cost analysis of hybrid system is simulated using HOMER program and the optimized hybrid power system is designed.
