Recently, there has been a tendency to lead the private sector in the launch vehicle market, and as the market has become saturated, efforts are being made to reduce the launch cost. Advanced countries in space development have promoted manned long-range space exploration plans. As oxygen/methane is more efficient, lower cost, and eco-friendly than typical propellants, and can be produced locally on an alien planet, it is the most suitable next-generation propellant to meet this trend. Now methane engine development is accelerating due to changes in international conditions and corporate environment. It is also expected to develop a methane engine in order to survive in this global trend and to keep up with the launch vehicle market in the future.

It is a known fact that much effort, time and cost are needed to develop a new launch vehicle. Among the many components consisting of the launch vehicle, a rocket engine is a one of the most important and difficult part to develop in which many risks may lie dormant because very active chemical reaction occurs inside the engine while the engine is also required optimum ratio of the mass and performance. This research focused on the risk mitigation to develop the rocket engine using the example of recently developed US rocket engine.

A study to get better vehicle fuel economy is described based on an express bus. The approach is based on using a commercial software vehicle simulation to identify the relative efficiency of each of the vehicle systems, such as the engine hardware, engine software calibration, transmission, cooling system and ancillary drives. The simulation-based approach offers a detailed understanding of which vehicle systems are underperforming and by how much the vehicle fuel economy can be improved if those systems are brought up to best-in-class performance. In this way, the optimum vehicle fuel economy can be provided to the vehicle customer. A further benefit is that the simulation requires only a minimum of vehicle testing for initial validation, with all subsequent field test cycles performed in software, thereby reducing development time and cost for the manufacturer.

The purpose of this study is to figure out the impacts of technological innovation and cost management on productivity in small shipping industries to come up with developmental implications. To achieve this, a survey was carried out to 150 workers in small shipbuilding industries through April 2 to April 20, 2012. As for findings stated above, technological innovation and cost management in the Korean small shipbuilding industries were key factors that elevate financial and non-financial productivity. In the light of low technological prowess and cost structure of small shipbuilding industries, their productivity can be improved when intensive cost management with production factor technology as know-how is realized through quality management, which product development technology is the top priority as an independent niche strategy. Consequently, the combination of infrastructures in small shipbuilding industries with continuous efforts for cost reduction by the link to the systematized structure can't only secure their independent competitiveness, but raise their productivity.
There are many difficulties in designing the engine structure properly due to the strong conflicts between NVH characteristics and the high performance, light weight and low product cost. Many feasible noise reduction techniques should be carefully incorporated to meet such stringent noise requirements. It is also required that the engine development be carried out by introducing concurrent engineering, in which the analysis and test database are usefully applied to the detail designs from the 1st stage. This paper reviews the significance of the noise characteristics of the structure elements in relation to the combustion pressure. The mechanisms of the crank shaft rumbling, which is the main source having the bad influence on the sound quality, are also explained. The influences of dynamic behavior of engine structure on its noise are investigated, followed by discussions on experimental results of the features necessary for the design of low noise engine concepts.

Development of 3 cylinder turbo charger engine is increasing due to engine down-sizing, cost reduction and emission regulations. However, 3 cylinder engine makes higher Exhaust manifold gas pressure(P3) pulsation than 4 cylinder engine and it generate boosting air with high pulsation. The mechanical waste-gate turbocharger just controlled by the boosting air has higher movement because of this high pulsation boosting air. This causes high vibrations to wasted gate and accelerate wear of the linkage system. So we need to understand out of the exhaust gas pressure pulsation changed by turbocharger compressor pressure(P2) Pulsation. In this study, we discuss how to prevent to abnormal movement of the turbo actuator by stabilized P2 Pulsation.

In this paper, a fuzzy logic-based idle speed controller is designed for automotive engine with a purpose of high efficiency and low pollution. When the idle speed is low engine operation is not smooth, otherwise fuel consumption is incresed. Therefore the idle speed must be maintained as low as possible within the scope that ensures smooth operation of engine. By simulation, we show that the idle speed controller has generated a proper control signal as engine condition or enviornment varies, and also operated well for unexpected cases. Also, an engine simulator, which is used as a basic tool for controller design, is developed and utilized for reduction of development time and cost.
The purpose of this study is to develop a sensing system to measure the capacitance of a pre-developed engine oil deterioration detection sensor integrated with an oil filter. To measure the capacitance of engine oil in the sensor, it is used the way measuring the electric charging time in a capacitor by impressing DC volt. This method has merits on cost and signal stability. The measured capacitance is compensated by comparison with the one measured by an impedance analyzer. Also, using the dielectric constant gained by an impedance analyzer, the calculating equation of the dielectric constant of engine oil related with the currently developed sensor is decided. Finally, the degradation degree of engine oil is estimated according to the change rate of dielectric constant between green oil and used oil. The newly developed personal controller is to control a series of the processes.
DEUTZ AG, co-founded in 1864 by Nicolaus August Otto, the inventor of the four-stroke cycle engine, has developed the new 2013 engine for commercial vehicles on the basis of the tried and tested 1012 and 1013 series. With 4 and 6 cylinder models, the engine covers the power range between 100 and 190 kW. At the time of their introduction to the market, the engines will meet the exhaust emission legislation of EURO IV and incorporate the potential for EURO IV, Further engineering targets were. (Compactness, Favourable power/cost relation, Low weight, Low fuel consumption and Low noise level). All targets could be accomplished in a relatively short development period via the application of modem simulation tools and test methods. In this paper, the design configuration of the engines is described with particular emphasis on measures for noise emission reduction and the combustion system including injection and turbo charging. Furthermore, we demonstrate the engine's potential to fullfill the European emission legislation EU4, which comes into force in 2005.

Gas turbine engine simulation in terms of transient, steady state performance and operational characteristics is complex work at the various engineering functions of aero engine manufacturers. Especially, efficiency of control system design and development in terms of cost, development period and technical relevance implies controlling diverse simulation and identification activities. The previous engine simulation has been accomplished within a limited analysis area such as fan, compressor, combustor, turbine, controller, etc. and this has resulted in improper engine performance and control characteristics because of limited interaction between analysis areas. In this paper, we propose a new simulation methodology for gas turbine engine performance analysis as well as its digital controller to solve difficulties as mentioned above. The novel method has particularities of (ⅰ) resulting in the integrated control simulation using almost every component/module analysis, (ⅱ) providing automated math model generation process of engine itself, various engine subsystems and control compensators/regulators, (ⅲ) presenting total sophisticated output results and easy understandable graphic display for a final user. We call this simulation system GT3GS (Gas Turbine 3D Graphic Simulator). GT3GS was built on both software and hardware technology for total simulation capable of high calculation flexibility as well as interface with real engine controller. All components in the simulator were implemented using COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) modules. In addition, described here includes GT3GS main features and future works for better gas turbine engine simulation.
