Purpose - Drawing upon signaling and social identity theories, this study explores the effect of engagement in CSR activities by foreign firms on applicants' intention to apply. Furthermore, this study suggests CSR education as a moderator which strengthens the positive effects of the engagement in CSR activities on the intention to apply for potential job seekers. Research design, data, and methodology - One hundred and ninety-one undergraduate students were solicited to participate in this study. Participants were randomly assigned to two scenarios depicting different levels of a given foreign firm's engagement in CSR activities. After reading the given scenario, respondents answered a series of questions on their intention to apply to the foreign organization. Result - The results from hierarchical regression reveal that Korean applicants have a more favorable perception of a foreign firm which performs engagement in positive CSR activities. Moreover, the positive effect of the engagement in CSR activities on the intention to apply has a greater impact for Korean applicants who had CSR education. Conclusion - The result indicates that foreign firms could overcome the liabilities of foreignness and attract local talent effectively, by engaging in CSR activities. Moreover, this study suggests the important role of CSR education, and significantly contributes to the international recruiting literature.
This study investigates the effects of the fulfillment of self-motivation including self-development, self-therapy, and self-presentation on the outcomes such as subjective quality of life, omnivorous cultural engagement, and visitor loyalty via visitor satisfaction in art museums. The analyses on 285 valid survey responses demonstrated that fulfillment of self-development and self-therapy needs have significant positive influence on visitor satisfaction. The effect of fulfilling self-presentation need on visitor satisfaction was found to be moderated by attitude toward SNS posting, while the age factor, based on generations, did not show a significant moderation effect. It was also found that visitor satisfaction positively influences visitor loyalty, including intentions of revisit and recommendation. Increased satisfaction also enhances subjective QOL and omnivorous cultural engagement among art museum visitors, implying promising collaboration among cultural arts institutions. The findings have both theoretical and practical implications for enhancing visitor experiences and promoting diverse cultural engagement. Limitations and future research directions are also discussed.
Despite the numerous advantages that CSR engagement can potentially offer, top managers may not always be willing to invest in CSR as they are expected to meet expectations of external constituents in the short run. Given that financial analysts' expectations are important short-term performance targets that top managers are motivated to meet, this study examines how performance relative to earnings forecasts issued by analysts affect top managers' decisions about CSR engagement. Using a sample of publicly listed U.S. firms from 2000 to 2016, we find that top managers are more likely to reduce discretionary expenditure on CSR activities as performance falls below analyst forecasts to improve financial performance in the following fiscal year. As performance exceeds analyst forecasts, top managers are motivated to reduce CSR investments in order to meet higher expectations of analysts. As financial analysts closely monitor the firms that they follow in order to publish investment advice to market participants, we find that analyst coverage weakens top managers' incentive to reduce CSR engagement. Overall, this research sheds meaningful insight into the contextual background in which the top managers are situated in when they make decisions on CSR engagement.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, unsubstantiated information concerning vaccines and the coronavirus has proliferated on various social media platforms. Consequently, we have considered viable actions to mitigate the impact of such unverified content, enabling individuals to use social media platforms more effectively and minimize any ensuing confusion. Recent measures in this area have included YouTube's practice of labeling vaccine or corona videos as authoritative when emanating from reputable organizations and Twitter's practice of flagging vaccine-related content as potentially misleading or taken out of context. This study seeks to explore how such contrasting labeling practices influence users' believability and engagement differentially, while also examining the moderating impact of regulatory focus. The results indicate that authoritative labeling positively influenced users' believability and engagement, whereas misleading labeling adversely affected users' believability and engagement. Additionally, our findings revealed that authoritative labeling has a stronger impact on promotion-focused individuals, while misleading labeling has a more pronounced effect on prevention-focused individuals. Our findings offer insights into how social media platforms can design and present information to their users, taking into account their regulatory focus.

The overarching purpose of this study is to examine the current status of academic public engagement in Vietnam. Data were obtained from a survey with 245 university lecturers, and descriptive statistics were used jointly with Bayesian statistics as tools for analysis. This study reveals that a significant proportion of university lecturers are not involved in public engagement, neither through the public press (66.5%) nor social media (49%). Those who have been active in public engagement use the public press and social networks to communicate science, with the latter being more used than the former. In addition, this study also pointed out that experienced scientists tend to engage with the public press, while early-career researchers often choose social networks. The findings of this study provide implications for higher education policymakers and administrators.
Computer-based modeling and simulation (M&S) techniques have become an essential component in the development of new weapons systems. M&S techniques provide a means to simulate military training, strategies, military doctrines, and weapons acquisition processes. This paper proposes a small scale engagement scenario generation method. This work also includes a process for scenario generation and visualization. The proposed scenario generation methodology employs the Timed-FSA (finite state automata) and DFS (depth first search) algorithms. The proposed scenario generation method is verified using a one-on-one combat engagement scenario between two submarines. In addition, we suggest a scenario generation process including whole scenario generation and scenario visualization.
In this quantitative research, it was enhanced to understand the impact of intrinsic motivation on creative process engagement by examining the significant role of psychological safety on intrinsic motivation. These relationships were examined by targeting the employees working full-time for five star deluxe hotels. Total number of 230 responses had been collected out of 250 cases requested and he number of 213 cases was used for the final analysis. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling with SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 7 software program. The results suggested that psychological safety is significantly associated with intrinsic motivation. Furthermore, the hotel employees' problem identification, information searching & coding, and idea generation are affected by intrinsic motivation. That is, intrinsic motivation plays a significant role for each sub-factors of creative process engagement in the hotel industry. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are established and related suggestion for formulating marketing strategy is well discussed.
In order to identify effective approaches for creating more viral Facebook posts, this research conducted an empirical content analysis of leading Korean brands' Facebook fan-pages (Samsung Mobile, SK Telecom, Kia Motors, and POSCO). Their distinctive visual storytelling and communication patterns were investigated as effective user engagement triggers. Through analysis of the research results, it was statistically proved that the different industrial attributes of the four brands, which are primarily characterized by their product (or service) types, affect their Facebook posting patterns by showing different engaging rates (measured by like, comment, and share metrics). In addition, the user engagement rates of the posts were influenced by their visual storytelling factors (i.e. ad objective, value scale, and visual media types). In line with these statistical findings, the distinctive visual storytelling strategies of the four brands were identified. Moreover, competitive and uncompetitive visual storytelling tactics were suggested according to the ad objectives and visual media types on Facebook.
The purpose of this study is to examine the structural relationship among factors affecting learning engagement, satisfaction, continuance intention in China-MOOC. For this study, data were collected from 334 students who were taking MOOC classes. and structural equation model ling analyses were employed to examine the causal relationships among variables. From the results of this study, First, self-regulated learning and interaction significantly affected learning engagement. Second, interaction had direct effects on satisfaction. Third, satisfaction significantly affect continuance intention. Furthermore, satisfaction mediated relationships between interaction and continuance intention. These results imply that self-regulated learning, interaction, learning engagement should be considered for designing and implementing China-MOOC learning. Further implication are discussed in the study.
This study investigated relationships between engagement in joint attention and the early language development in infancy. Subjects were 12 infants and their mothers. At 20 and 25 months of age, each child's spontaneous natural speech during interaction with his/her caregiver was videotaped for about 30 minutes. The EJA(Episodes of joint attention) focus between mother and child were identified and coded by Tomasello and Todd's(1983) and Bakeman and Adamson's(1984) including person engagement, object engagement, looking engagement, passive joint attention, coordinated joint attention. Results showed that a significant difference in infant's language development between within and outside EJA at 20 and 25 months of age; that is, during periods of EJA children talked more inside than outside EJA.
