The spectroscopy toolkit has been developed and tested. The toolkit consists of a CsI(Tl)/PIN diode detector, integrated electronics, and a multi.channel.analyzer and its size was 40 cm(width) by 20 cm(length) by 6 cm(high). It is compact, very portable and simpler and cheaper compared to the conventional spectroscopy system. The gamma energy resolutions of the toolkit were 7.9% for the 660 keV of $^{137}Cs$ and 4.9% for 1,332 keV of $^{60}Co$ respectively. The linearity for gamma energies was good. When the energy spectrum of a ceramic sample containing $^{232}Th$ was measured with the spectroscopy toolkit for 20 minutes, there were significant peaks of the heavy metal. These results show that the resolution of the spectroscopy toolkit is sufficient to accumulate a quality spectrum in a few minutes by using weak, encapsulated commercial sources. Furthermore a toolkit experiment that how to measure energy spectra using the toolkit, and how to identify specific isotopes in a pottery piece, could be widely adopted for education and even for more sophisticated and higher level experiments.

We show that next-generation galaxy surveys such as KAOS (the Kilo-Aperture Optical Spectro-graph)will constrain dark energy even if the baryon oscillations are missing from the monopole power spectrum and the bias is scale- and time-dependent KAOS will accurately measure the quadrupole power spectrum which gives the leading anisotropies in the power spectrum in redshift space due to peculiar velocities, the finger of God effect, as well as the Alcock-Paczynski effect. The combination of monopole and quadrupole power spectra powerfully breaks the degeneracy between the bias parameters and dark energy and, in the complete absence of baryon oscillations ($\Omega$b = 0), leads to a roughly $500\%$ improvement in constraints on dark energy compared with the monopole spectrum alone. As a result, for KAOS the worst case with no oscillations has dark energy errors only mildly degraded relative to the ideal case, providing insurance on the robustness of KAOS constraints on dark energy. We show that nonlinear effects are crucial in correctly evaluating the quadrupole and significantly improving the constraints on dark energy when we allow for multi-parameter scale-dependent bias.

The spectrum weighted responses of various detectors were calculated to provide guidance on the proper selection and use of survey instruments on the basis of their energy response characteristics on the neutron fields. To yield the spectrum weighted response, the detector response functions of 17 neutron-measuring devices were numerically folded with each of the produced calibration neutron spectra through the in-house developed software 'K-SWR'. The detectors' response functions were taken from the IAEA Technical Reports Series No. 403 (TRS-403). The reference neutron fields of 21 kinds with 2 spectra groups with different proportions of thermal and fast neutrons have been produced using neutrons from the $^{241}Am$-Be sources held in a graphite pile, a bare $^{241}Am$-Be source, and a DT neutron generator. Fluence-average energy ($E_{ave}$) varied from 3.8 MeV to 16.9 MeV, and the ambient-dose-equivalent rate [$H^*(10)/h$] varied from 0.99 to 16.5 mSv/h.

In this paper, a new spectrum sensing method based on energy detection is proposed and analyzed in a cognitive radio(CR) system. We employ a delay diversity receiver for sensing the primary user's spectrum with reasonable cost and complexity. Conventional CR with the receiver equipping multiple antennas requires additional hardware and space for installing multiple antennas in accordance with increase in the number of antennas. If the number of antennas increases, detection probability as well as hardware complexity and cost rise. Then, it is difficult to make a primary user detector practically. Therefore, we adopt a delay diversity receiver for solving problems of the conventional spectrum detector utilizing multiple antennas. We derive analytical expressions for the spectrum sensing performance of the proposed system. From the simulation results, it is demonstrated that the primary user detector with the delay diversity receiver has almost half the complexity and shows similar or improved performance as compared with that employing multiple antennas. Therefore, the proposed spectrum sensing structure can be a practical solution for enhancing the detection capacity in CR system operations. The results of this paper can be applied to legacy CR systems with simple modifications.
In this paper, we analyze the Transition of Isc by natural solar spectrum of c-Si and a-Si PV module. Commonly, performance of photovoltaic (PV) module is estimated under the standard test condition (STC). That is, solar irradiance $1kW/m^2$, solar spectrum distribution: AM1 5G, module temperature $25^{\circ}C$ This means it rarely meets actual outdoor conditions. The solar spectrum always changes. So it is rare to fit the standard solar spectrum AM1 5G defined in ASTM G173-03 or IEC 60904-3. Thus spectral response of PV module is different depending on the material. so we estimated the variation of Isc at every minutes by comparing c-Si PV module with a-si PV module for outdoor conditions.
The Pyungchang earthquake(Jan. 2007, Ml4.9) have recorded PGA of about 0.15g at the Daegwanryung observation station nearby from the epicenter. In this paper the energy response spectrum analyses for the Pyungchang earthquake were carried out and compared with well known American earthquake Taft(1952).

Cooperative spectrum sensing is proposed to overcome some problem such as multipath fading and shadowing and to improve spectrum sensing performance. There are different combining methods for cooperative spectrum sensing: hard decision method and soft decision method. In this paper, we analysis the performance of cooperative spectrum sensing with distance based weight that is kind of a soft decision rule for cognitive radio(CR) systems and CR systems sense the spectrum of the licensed user by using a energy detection method. Threshold is determined in accordance with the constant false alarm rate(CFAR) algorithm for energy detection. The signal of licensed user is OFDM signal and the wireless channel between a licensed user and CR systems is modeled as Gaussian channel. From the simulation results, the cooperative spectrum sensing with distance based weight combining(DWC) and equal gain combing(EGC) methods shows higher spectrum sensing performance than single spectrum sensing does. And the detection probability performance with the DWC is higher than that with the EGC.

In spectrum sensing, an energy detector compares the energy of a received signal with a predetermined detection threshold and decides whether a primary user is active or not in a licensed frequency band. Here the detection threshold is related to the noise power level in the band. Most previous works on energy detection have assumed that the noise power is exactly known a priori. However, this assumption does not hold in practice since there may be some uncertainty about the noise power. So it is necessary to investigate its effects on the performance of energy detection for spectrum sensing. In this paper, we analyze the effects using the residue theorem for contour integral and present the associated numerical results.
The energy band method for NaI spectrum calculates only the exposure rate due to natural radiation because it calculates exposure rate using energy spectrum of $1300{\sim}3000keV$. However, the total energy method includes in its calculation the exposure rate due to man-made radiation because it uses the energy spectrum of $150{\sim}3400keV$. Therefore, the resulting difference of extracting the exposure rate calculated by the energy band method from the exposure rate calculated by the total energy method is apparently the exposure rate due to man-made radiation. In this study, we measured the NaI spectrum during the period of significant changes of the exposure rate in the area without a man-made radiation. As the results, we found the exposure rates calculated by those two methods are equal within the statistical variation of ${\pm}0.3{\mu}R\;h^{-1}$. Consequently, if the difference between the exposure rates calculated by the two methods exists, it may be due to the man-made radiation exposure rate.
Dual energy computed tomography (DECT) is used to classify two materials and quantify the mass density of each material in the human body. An energy modulation filter based DECT could acquire two images, which are generated by the low- and high-energy photon spectra, in one scan, with one tube and detector. In the case of DECT using the energy modulation filter, the filter should perform the optimization process for the type of materials and thicknesses for generating two photon spectra. In this study, Geant4 Monte-Carlo simulation toolkit was used to execute the optimization process for determining the property of the energy modulation filter. In the process, various materials used for the energy modulation filter are copper (Cu, $8.96g/cm^3$), niobium (Nb, $8.57g/cm^3$), stannum (Sn, $7.31g/cm^3$), gold (Au, $19.32g/cm^3$), and lead (Pb, $11.34g/cm^3$). The thickness of the modulation filter varied from 0.1 mm to 1.0 mm. To evaluate the overlap region of the low- and high-energy spectrum, Geant4 Monte-Carlo simulation is used. The variation of the photon flux and the mean energy of photon spectrum that passes through the energy modulation filter are evaluated. In the primary photon spectrum of 80 kVp, the optimal modulation filter is a 0.1 mm lead filter that can acquire the same mean energy of 140 kVp photon spectrum. The lead filter of 0.1 mm based dual energy CBCT is required to increase the tube current 4.37 times than the original tube current owing to the 77.1% attenuation in the filter.
