  • Recently, wireless sensor networks(WSNs) technology has been considered as one of the most critical issues in the ubiquitous computing age. The sensor nodes have limited battery power, so they should consume low energy through their operation for the long-lasting lifetime. Therefore, it is essential to use energy efficient routing protocol. For this, we propose a location-based energy-efficient routing protocol which constructs the energy efficient route by considering the quantity of Energy consumed. In addition, we propose a route reconstruction algorithm to handle the disconnection of message transmission. Finally, we show from performance analysis using TOSSIM that our protocol outperforms the existing location based routing protocols in terms of energy efficiency.

  • Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have emerged as a highly promising energy harvesting technology capable of harnessing mechanical energy from various environmental vibrations. Their versatility in material selection and efficient conversion of mechanical energy into electric energy make them particularly attractive. TENGs can serve as a valuable technology for self-powered sensor operation in preparation for the IoT era. Additionally, they demonstrate potential for diverse applications, including energy sources for implanted medical devices (IMDs), neural therapy, and wound healing. In this review, we summarize the potential use of this universally applicable triboelectric energy harvesting technology in the disinfection and blocking of pathogens. By integrating triboelectric energy harvesting technology into human clothing, masks, and other accessories, we propose the possibility of blocking pathogens, along with technologies for removing airborne or waterborne infectious agents. Through this, we suggest that triboelectric energy harvesting technology could be an efficient alternative to existing pathogen removal technologies in the future.

  • By development of renewable energy and more efficient facilities in an increasingly deregulated electricity market, the operation cost of distributed generation (DG) is becoming more competitive. International environmental regulations of the leaking carbon become effective to reinforce global efforts for a low-carbon paradigm. Through increased DG, operators of DG are able to supply electric power to customers who are connected directly to DG as well as loads that are connected to entire network. In this situation, a community energy system (CES) with DGs is a new participant in the energy market. DG's purchase price from the market is different from the DG's sales price to the market due to transmission service charges and other costs. Therefore, CES who owns DGs has to control the produced electric power per hourly period in order to maximize profit. Considering the international environment regulations, CE will be an important element to decide the marginal cost of generators as well as the classified fuel unit cost and unit's efficiency. This paper introduces the optimal operation of CES's DG connected to the distribution network considering CE. The purpose of optimization is to maximize the profit of CES. A Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) will be used to solve this complicated problem. The optimal operation of DG represented in this paper would guide CES and system operators in determining the decision making criteria.

  • In this paper, an operation algorithm for the fuel cell-battery hybrid power system is proposed. As the output current slope of the fuel cell is normally limited to protect the fuel cells' defection, efficient power distribution algorithm between the fuel cell and battery is very important for the successful hybrid control operation. For the experimentation, a 1kW dc-dc converter with 500W fuel cell stack and 1kWh Li-polymer battery is implemented.

  • The major resource problem in sensor networks is energy efficiency. There are two major access methods to efficiently use energy. The first is to use dynamic power management (DPM). The second is to use energy efficient protocols. In DPM methods, the OS, the power manager, is responsible for managing the proper power state of CPU and each I/O with respect to the events, but the OS is not largely concerned about the internal operation of each network protocols. Also, energy efficient protocols are mainly focused on the power saving operation of the radio PHY. In addition, in wireless sensor network most of tasks are connected to communication. In such a situation, traditional power managers can waste unpredicted power. In this paper, we introduce an efficient power manger that can reduce a lot of unwanted power consumption through cooperative power management (CPM) in communication-related tasks between each units, such as radio, sensing unit, and CPU, for ad hoc wireless sensor nodes.

  • Energy storage devices are necessary to obtain stable utilization of renewable energy sources. When black-out occurs, distributed renewable power sources with energy storage devices can operate under standalone mode as uninterruptable power supply. This paper proposes a dynamic response analysis with small-signal modeling for the standalone operation of a photovoltaic power generation system that includes a bidirectional charger/discharger with a battery. Furthermore, it proposes a DC-link voltage controller design of the entire power conditioning system, using the storage current under standalone operation. The purpose of this controller is to guarantee the stable operation of the renewable source and the storage subsystem, with the power conversion of a very efficient bypass-type PCS. This paper presents the operating principle and design guidelines of the proposed scheme, along with performance analysis and simulation. Finally, a hardware prototype of 1-kW power conditioning system with an energy storage device is implemented, for experimental verification of the proposed converter system.

  • Recently the roles of railways about the prevention of global warming caused by greenhouse gases and for low carbon green growth are larger than ever. And the railroad-related research institutions have been active in researching for energy conservation. Especially the urban railroad has been emerged as the best means of transportation compared to the general public transportation systems in punctuality, stability, ecology and etc. In operating the urban railroad system there are various ways for energy savings. In the larger category, One is the hardware aspect according to the structure of the vehicle and the development of control systems. The other is the software aspect which efficient train operation can be made through control of driving patterns and driving diagram. In this paper, there is sense to analyze the result in verifying expectation relation with variable and the use of electric power on this after selecting main variables that can influence to the energy of the train operation in the software aspect. First, after collecting the basic data related to operation(train speed, operating hours, power consumption, the position of stopping station, electrical power system etc.) and according to this, investigating the consumption of the energy of the operation, in the side of energy consumption deducing and analyzing problem, this will be found solutions.

  • Since wireless sensor networks consist of nodes with the constrained battery, energy efficient MAC operation is one of the important issues. Low duty cycle operation is critical to conserve energy in wireless sensor network MAC protocol. Some paper proposed a new approach to low power listening, which employs a short preamble to further reduce energy consumption and to reduce latency. But short preamble suffers from unfair channel access problem since there was no consideration for contention between transmission nodes. Preamble counting proposes a solution to each of these problems by employing node selection information. Simulation results show that the preamble counting provides an improved energy efficiency and fairness of packet delivery.

  • In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient MAC(Medium Access Control) protocol for processing context information in ubiquitous sensor network environments. CASMAC(Context Aware Sensor MAC) use context information for energy-efficient operation and its operation principle is as follows. First, we make scenarios with possible prediction for CASMAC. And then we save setted context information in server. When event occur at specific sensor node, and then it send three times sample data to server. According to context information, server process sample data. If server process sample data with event, it receive continuous data from event occur node by a transmission request signal. And then server send data transmission stop signal to event occur node when it do not need to data. If server process sample data with no event, it have not reply. Through we make energy consumption tables and an energy consumption model, we simulate analysis of CASMAC performance. In a result, we gains about 5.7 percents energy reduction compared to SMAC.

  • This paper is about the energy efficiency calculation of operating electric motors in production facilities. The most important 1st step to efficient operation of plants is the evaluation of the energy efficiency of the production facilities in that plant. Through this procedure, we can decide that which facilities i.e. induction motors, in this paper, should do maintenance or not. There are mainly 2 types of energy which are used in production facilities, the one is electric energy and the other is heat energy but in order to make calculation simple, in this paper, we are only focusing on electric energy, efficiency and energy loss of the electric motors under operation conditions. As a case study, we chose electric motors in a certain process in a production facilities, and calculated efficiency and loss by using measured data.
