A Genetic-Algorithm-Based Optimized Clustering for Energy-Efficient Routing in MWSN

  • With the increasing demands for mobile wireless sensor networks in recent years, designing an energy-efficient clustering and routing protocol has become very important. This paper provides an analytical model to evaluate the power consumption of a mobile sensor node. Based on this, a clustering algorithm is designed to optimize the energy efficiency during cluster head formation. A genetic algorithm technique is employed to find the near-optimal threshold for residual energy below which a node has to give up its role of being the cluster head. This clustering algorithm along with a hybrid routing concept is applied as the near-optimal energy-efficient routing technique to increase the overall efficiency of the network. Compared to the mobile low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy protocol, the simulation studies reveal that the energy-efficient routing technique produces a longer network lifetime and achieves better energy efficiency.

  • The purpose of this research is to improve nitrogen removal efficiency in winter season through rise of water temperature of extraneous water by using solar energy which is estimated to have great potential among new regeneration energy and while operating Plug-Flow Reactor to improve nitrogen removal efficiency by selecting A/O process among sewage waste water treatment processes as the necessity of solving the problem of nitrogen removal efficiency according to reduced water temperature in winter season and strengthening of water quality criteria regarding discharged sewage waste water suggested in the research background. Summarizing the research result, supply of solar energy source improves the function outstandingly when removing nitrogen, (nitrogen removal rate before operating solar energy 55.4% ${\rightarrow}$ nitrogen removal rate after operating solar energy 84.1%).

The study on a ship energy management system applied rechargeable battery

  • Recently, the study of energy saving technology of ships begins in earnest, as energy saving policies are performed all around the world. SEMS (Ship Energy Management System) is one of the techniques to increase energy efficiency by applying to a independent system like a ship and offshore. SEMS is composed of Cooling Pump Control System (CPCS), Renewable Energy Emergency Power Control System (REEPCS), Load Control System (LCS), and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning System (HVACS). SEMS is enable to increase energy efficiency and achieve integrated management through the interlocking of each system. Especially, it is possible to improve the flexibility of the selection of the generator capacity in conjunction with a rechargeable battery and renewable energy. In this paper, SEMS applied rechargeable battery is proposed and simulated. By applying the rechargeable battery, it was confirmed that SEMS applied rechargeable battery can be operated at optimum efficiency of the generator.

Development of Energy-sensitive Cluster Formation and Cluster Head Selection Technique for Large and Randomly Deployed WSNs

  • Energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is a critical issue because batteries are used for operation and communication. In terms of scalability, energy efficiency, data integration, and resilience, WSN-cluster-based routing algorithms often outperform routing algorithms without clustering. Low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) is a cluster-based routing protocol with a high transmission efficiency to the base station. In this paper, we propose an energy consumption model for LEACH and compare it with the existing LEACH, advanced LEACH (ALEACH), and power-efficient gathering in sensor information systems (PEGASIS) algorithms in terms of network lifetime. The energy consumption model comprises energy-sensitive cluster formation and a cluster head selection technique. The setup and steady-state phases of the proposed model are discussed based on the cluster head selection. The simulation results demonstrated that a low-energy-consumption network was introduced, modeled, and validated for LEACH.

  • This paper presents the efficiency measurement and energy analysis for a parallel HEY. Using the HEV test rig, the efficiency of each powertrain component is measured for a given driving cycle including the regenerative braking system. Accompanied by the efficiency measurements, a detailed energy analysis is performed. Based on the efficiency measurement and energy analysis, a HEV performance simulator is developed. Using the simulator, the HEV performance is evaluated for a mild hybrid system. It is expected that the HEV simulator developed can be used to obtain further optimization potentials.

3리터급 DME 엔진용 LNT 후처리 장치 연구 (The Experimental Research of LNT for 3L-DME Engine)

  • This study is aimed to develop LNT(Lean NOx Trap) aftertreatment system for DME engine. Modified DME engine, which was changed from diesel to current DME engine, is used for this research and is equipped with common rail type injector and fuel supplying system. LNT system has reductant injector. DME is also used as reduction agent. For this research, reduction agent injection time width and interval were varied. And also, swirler was used to improve homogeneity of reducing agent in exhaust pipe. The reduction rate of NOx by LNT was increased by longer injection width, short interval and swirler. The maximum diminution of NOx by LNT was over 85%.

  • The global demand for energy has been increasing since past decades. Various technologies have been working to find a suitable alternative for the generation of sustainable energy. Photovoltaic technologies for solar energy conversion represent one of the significant routes for the green and renewable energy production. Despite of remarkable improvement in solar cell technologies, the generation of power is still suffering with lower energy conversion efficiency, high production cost, etc. The major problem in improving the PV efficiency is spectral mismatch between the incident solar spectrum and bandgap of a semiconductor material used in solar cell. Luminescent materials such as rare-earth doped phosphor materials having the quantum efficiency higher than unity can be helpful for photovoltaic applications. Quantum cutting phosphors are the most suitable candidates for the generation of two or more low-energy photons for the absorption of every incident high-energy photons. The phosphors which are capable of converting UV photon to visible and near-IR (NIR) photon are studied primarily for photovoltaic applications. In this review, we will survey various near IR quantum cutting phosphors with respective to their synthesis method, energy transfer mechanism, nature of activator, sensitizer and dopant materials incorporation and energy conversion efficiency considering their applications in photovoltaics.

Development of an energy and efficiency calibration method for stilbene scintillators

  • A method for calibrating the energy scale and detection efficiency of stilbene scintillators is presented herein. This method can be used to quantitatively analyze the Compton continuum of gamma-ray spectra obtained using such scintillators. First, channel-energy calibration was conducted by fitting a semi-empirical equation for the Compton continuum to the acquired energy spectrum and a new method to evaluate the intrinsic detection efficiency, called intrinsic Compton efficiency, of stilbene scintillators was proposed. The validity of this method was verified by changing experimental conditions such as the number of sources being measured simultaneously and the detector-source distance. According to the energy calibration, the standard error for the estimated Compton edge position was ±1.56 keV. The comparison of the intrinsic Compton efficiencies calculated from the single- and two-source spectra showed that the mean absolute difference and the mean absolute percentage difference are 0.031 %p and 0.557%, respectively, demonstrating reasonable accuracy of this method. The feasibility of the method was confirmed for an energy range of 0.5-1.5 MeV, showing that stilbene scintillators can be used to quantitatively analyze gamma rays in mixed-radiation fields.

  • Since 2001, the Building Energy Efficiency Rating and Certification System have been implemented in Korea. For rating the energy efficiency performance, the evaluation tool for Building Energy Efficiency Rating System has been used. In this study, the evaluation tool was compared with detailed analysis programs(Trnsys 16, ESP-r) through simulations of heating energy needs for apartment, and we checked the character of the evaluation tool.

  • 자바 프로그램의 실행 환경인 자바가상기계에서는 거의 모든 바이트코드들이 메모리 상에서의 자료 이동을 필요로 한다. 자료 이동은 에너지 소비를 일으키므로 이것의 최소화는 JVM의 에너지 효율성 향상에 매우 중요하다. 특히 자바 반복문은 반복 회수에 비례하는 양만큼의 자료 이동을 요구하므로 JVM의 에너지 효율을 높이기 위해서는 무엇보다도 자바 반복문의 에너지 효율을 높이는 것이 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 자바 반복문을 바이트코드 수준에서 분석하여 에너지 효율성을 높일 수 있는 여러 방법들을 제안하였다.
