  • A complex energy saving device has been developed for middle class vessels. The propulsive performance of the developed device is described through a model test. The pre-swirl stator, which recovers the rotational energy of the propeller slipstream, is a well-known energy saving device for large vessels. The pre-swirl stator for a large vessel is usually cast as a part of the stern frame and has a high cost. The manufacture of a cast stator for an existing vessel is almost impossible. The complex device that was developed can be fitted on astern frame by welding. The model tests show a 4-6% efficiency gain for middle class vessels with the developed appendages compared to those with bare hulls.

  • Recently Energy Saving Device has been developed actively due to the regulation of the EEDI. This Energy Saving Device which is newly developed is integrated duct and stator. This paper verified performance of the Energy Saving Device through CFD. The experimentation to find the best pitch angle of each blade of the stator designed has been conducted. The angle of incidence of the duct has been obtained through the measurement of the wake. The experimentation has been carried out with and without Energy Saving Device. The efficiency increase was through these two experiments.

  • A energy saving device "Crown duct" has been developed and its efficiency gain has been verified experimentally in the towing tank of SSPA. The preswirl stator is well known as one of energy saving devices, which recovering the rotational energy of propeller slipstream. Crown duct has two functions of recovers the rotational energy by three blades on top of duct and of flow concentration by semi-duct. The model tests showed 4.4% efficiency gain with Crown Duct at full load condition and 6.9% at ballast condition compared with the bare hull ones for the middle class tanker.

  • The present paper considers the contact between energy-saving device of ice-class vessel and ice block. The main objective of this study is to clarify the tendency of the ice impact force and the structural response as well as interaction effects of them. The contact analysis is performed by using LS-DYNA finite element code. The main collision scenario is based on Finnish-Swedish ice class rules and a stern duct model is used as an energy-saving device. For the contact force, two modelling approaches are adopted. One is dynamic indentation model of ice block based on the pressure-area curve. The other is numerical material modelling by LS-DYNA. The authors investigated the sensitivity of the structural response against the ice contact pressure, the interaction effect between structure and ice block, and the influence of eccentric collision. The results of these simulations are presented and discussed with respect to structural safety.

  • In this paper, we propose the landscape lighting power control system with solar sell generator equipment for energy saving, and also which is included the landscape lighting power transformation device. The power transformation device can check inverse current in the power of the solar cell module and control the power of the battery. And we present the design of landscape lighting power control system. The power control system uses microprocessor with charging system and power transformation device. And also it can control the power of loads under consideration intensity of illumination. The landscape lighting loads are composed of LED(Lighting Emitting Diode) and HID(High Intensity Discharge)lamps. To evaluate property, we installed the solar cell array which generate three kilo watt power. Experimental results show that the proposed system can have stability and energy saving on the mixed configuration of electric loads with DC and AC lamps.

  • For a reliability assessment of large machinery parts, reliable data should be obtained from testing many samples for a long time. However, in case of testing these samples, testing cost is excessive; in case of life test for long time, power consumption is high; and in case of accelerated test by over load, very high cost is required to build the life testing device. Especially it is very frequent that the expensive device's life has ended during a accelerated test by over load. In this study, the design mechanism of the life testing device which excels in energy saving during the reliability test of large machinery parts has been introduced.

  • In mobile wireless communications, there is a new approach that uses the lacking spectrum efficiently. A cognitive radio is a device that can changes its transmitter parameters based on interaction with the environment in which it operates. At present, the wireless communication standard for wireless device contains power-saving modes or energy efficient mechanisms which cuts off the power of transmitter and receiver for power-saving. However, in cognitive radio environment, every device has the Quiet Period for searching channel and existing energy-saving method is not appropriate to be adjust to cognitive radio environment. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient MAC protocol of mobile device in cognitive radio environment and prove the improvement of proposed method.

  • Chosun University, in cooperation with SPP shipyard, has developed an energy saving device based on a new concept: "Crown Duct." Crown Duct is composed of a semi-duct with short struts inside and outside the duct. Theoretical calculations for two different designs were carried out using the CFD code "Ship Flow." The design selected from these two different forms by the CFD code analysis was tested in a towing tank at SSPA. The results showed about 4% efficiency gain under a full-load condition and about 7% gain under a ballast condition in the towing tank test.
