Stress-related energy dissipation and damping model of concrete considering moisture content

  • Although the influence of moisture content on the mechanical properties of concrete has been studied for a long time, research related to its influence on the damping and energy dissipation property of concrete structure is still very limited. In this paper, the relationship between damping property and moisture content of concrete using cyclic uniaxial compression is firstly presented, and the mechanism of the influence of moisture content on concrete damping and energy dissipation capacity is analyzed. Based on the experimental research, moisture-related damping and energy dissipation model is proposed. Results show that the dissipated energy of concrete and loss factor increase as the moisture content increasing. The energy dissipation coefficient reflecting the influence of stress level of concrete under cyclic load, decreases first and then increases as the moisture content increasing. The mechanism of moisture-related energy dissipation behavior can be divided into the reactive force of water, the development of the internal micro cracks and the pore water pressure. Finally, the proposed moisture-related damping and energy dissipation model are verified.

유리섬유강화 복합재료의 표면거칠기에 따른 에폭시 접착제의 접착강도 평가 (Evaluation of Adhesion Property of Epoxy Adhesive with Different Surface Roughness of GFRC)

  • 유리섬유강화 복합재료 (GFRC)의 표면거칠기에 따른 에폭시 접착제의 접착강도를 평가하였고 최적의 표면거칠기를 선정하였다. 서로 다른 입자크기의 알루미나 (Al2O3) 입자를 GFRC의 표면에 분사하였고 이를 통하여 서로 다른 표면거칠기를 부여하였다. 표면거칠기를 정량화 하였고 표면거칠기에 따른 표면관찰을 진행하였다. 각 표면거칠기에 따른 접촉각을 측정하였고 이를 통하여 표면에너지를 계산하였으며, 에폭시 접착제와의 접착일을 계산 및 비교하여 접착력을 예측하였다. 단일랩전단 시험을 통해 접착강도를 평가하였고 거칠기에 따라 접착강도가 증가된다는 것을 확인하였다. 박리 후 표면을 관찰해 보았을 때 기지재인 GFRC의 박리 정도가 다른 것을 확인하였고 최종적으로 표면거칠기의 최적조건을 확인할 수 있었다.

KIST와 FZ-Julich SOFC간의 출력성능 비교 (Comparison of the Power Generating Characteristics of KIST- and FZ-Julich SOFCs)

  • We evaluate and compare the power generating characteristics of the anode supported SOFCs which have been fabricated from KIST and FZ-Julich in Germany. The performance and electrochemical property of each unit cell was characterized at the temperature range of $650-850^{\circ}C$ under same operating conditions and its microstructural property was thoroughly investigated via SEM after the performance test. According to the investigation, KIST- and FZJ SOFC showed different power generating characteristics in their temperature dependances due to their different design of electrode microstructure, especially the cathode microstructure. FZJ SOFC showed better performance at high temperature while showed lower performance at lower temperature. From the investigation about the correlation between microstructure and electrochemical property, we found that the superior performance of FZJ SOFC at high temperature was mainly due to its lower cathodic polarization resistance whereas better performance of KIST SOFC at lower temperature was mostly attributed to the lower ohmic resistance.

Sodium titanate as an infrared reflective material for cool roof application

  • A solid-state route was used to prepare sodium titanium oxide (NTO, Na2Ti3O7) as a solar heat protecting material with an impressive solar reflectance (TSR = 94.3%) using a high refractive index rutile TiO2. The solar reflectance of the synthesized NTO was measured using UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. Solar reflectance property of the synthesized compound depends on the calcination temperature. The solar reflectance property of the synthesized NTO powder was compared with commercial rutile TiO2. The compound synthesized at 900 ℃ for 24 hrs had remarkable solar reflectance 94.3% than that calcined below 900 ℃. Crystalline nature, structural property, morphology and optical properties of NTO powders were characterized and analyzed using XRD, FE-SEM, EDS and UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. From the results, we guessed that NTO would be a suitable "solar heat protecting candidate" for energy-saving applications in coating industries.

  • A finite element scheme is considered for the viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation with the nonconstant gradient energy coefficient. The scheme inherits energy decay property and mass conservation as for the classical solution. We obtain the corresponding error estimate using the extended Lax-Richtmyer equivalence theorem.

The effect of red ginseng and ginseng leaves on the substance and energy metabolism in hypothyroidism rats

  • Background: Recent studies have revealed that the properties Traditional Chinese Medicine is mostly associated with are substance and energy metabolism. Our study aimed to compare the effect of red ginseng (RG) (warm property) and ginseng leaves (GL; cold property) on the substance and energy metabolism of rats with hypothyroidism. Materials and methods: Rats were administered propylthiouracil intraperitoneally for 20 d to cause hypothyroidism. The reference group was orally administered Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparaia [FZ (Fuzi in Chinese)], while both the RG and GL groups were orally administrated crude drugs. The rectal, tail, toe, and axilla temperature of the rats were assayed every 3 d. Oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production, heat production, and energy expenditure were measured via TSE phenoMaster/LabMaster animal monitoring system. Adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase, $Na^+-K^+$-ATPase, fumarase, pyruvic acid and cyclic adenosine monophosphate/cyclic guanosine monophosphate were determined. Results: The lower levels of triiodothyronine, tetraiodothyronine, and thyrotropin-releasing hormone and the higher level of thyroid stimulating hormone revealed the successful establishment of a hypothyroidism model. Oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production, heat production, and energy expenditure in the FZ and RG groups were obviously increased. The activity of $Na^+-K^+$-ATPase and fumarase in the FZ and RG groups was significantly increased. The cyclic adenosine monophosphate/cyclic guanosine monophosphate level in the FZ and RG groups was increased, while the GL group showed the opposite. Conclusion: Our research provides a new way to explore the efficiency of Chinese medicine on the basis of the relationship between drug property and effects on substance and energy metabolism.

TPO/R를 이용한 [Fe2O3, WO3]/지지체의 산화, 환원 특성 연구 (Redox Property of the Supported Fe2O3 and WO3 with TPO/TPR)

  • The three-reactor chemical-looping process (TRCL) for the production of hydrogen from natural gas is attractive for both $CO_2$ capture and hydrogen production. In this study, redox property of $Fe_2O_3$ and $WO_3$ supported with $ZrO_2$ and $MgAl_2O_4$ were studied with temperature programmed oxidation/reduction (TPO/R) experiment. All metal oxides were prepared by ball mill method. Metal oxides supported with $ZrO_2$ showed the good redox property in TPO and TPR tests. Reduction behavior was matched well the theoretical reduction mechanism. Metal oxides supported with $MgAl_2O_4$ formed a solid solution ($MgFe_{0.6}Al_{1.4}O_4$, $MgWO_4$). $Fe_2O_3$ showed more narrow reaction range and lower reaction temperature than $WO_3$.

EFFECT OF METAL CONTACT ON THE CZT DETECTOR PERFORMANCE

  • Metal-semiconductor contact is very important for the operating property of semiconductor detector. $Cd_{0.96}$ $Zn_{0.04}$ Te semiconductor crystal was grown with Bridgman method, and the crystal was cut and polished. EPMA (Electron Probe Micro Analyzer) and ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) analysis were done to obtain the chemical composition and impurity of the crystal. Metal contact was deposited with thermal evaporator on both sides of the crystal. Detectors with Au/CZT/Au and In/CZT/Au structure were made, and I-V curve and the energy spectrum were measured with the detectors. It could be seen that the detector with the In/CZT/Au structure has superior property than the detector with Au/CZT/Au structure when the crystal resistivity was low. However, the metal contact structure effect becomes low when the crystal resistivity was high.

에너지 효율적인 데이타 기반 센서 네트워크 라우팅 프로토콜 (Energy Efficient Data-centric based Sensor Network Routing Protocol)

  • 센서 네트워크에서는 베이스 노드와 다수의 센서 노드들간의 데이타 중심 (Data-centric) 기반의 통신 모델을 사용한다는 특징을 활용하여, 오버헤드를 최소화 하면서 최저 전력 라우팅 경로를 찾고, 또한 전체 네트워크의 수명을 최대화 시킬 수 있는 PAD (Power Aware Data-centric routing protocol)를 제안한다. PAD는 최저전력 라우팅 경로와는 상관없는 통신 링크를 제거한 최저전력특징그래프(Minimum Energy Property Graph)를 찾은 후, 오버혜드를 최소화 하고 slow convergence와 라우팅 경로의 루프 문제를 해결한 Distributed Data-centric Bellman-Ford Algorithm을 사용하여 라우팅 경로를 결정한다. 특히 PAD가 제안한 최저전력특징그래프를 찾는 알고리듬은 기존의 방식에 비해서 훨씬 빠르며, 간단하여 구현이 용이하면서도 가장 적은 수의 에지를 가지는 그래프를 구한다. 이는 기존의 방식이 사용하던 path-loss 모델만을 이용한 기하학적 계산과 복잡한 알고리듬을 path-loss 모델로부터 독립시켜 전력소모를 예측할 수 있는 어떠한 방법이든지 사용 가능하게 하고 또한 최단거리 알고리듬을 사용한 결과이다. PAD는 모든 과정을 분산된 방식으로 수행하며, 또한 최소의 오버헤드만을 가지므로, 다양한 센서 네트워크 응용에서 사용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Scaling of design earthquake ground motions for tall buildings based on drift and input energy demands

  • Rational scaling of design earthquake ground motions for tall buildings is essential for safer, risk-based design of tall buildings. This paper provides the structural designers with an insight for more rational scaling based on drift and input energy demands. Since a resonant sinusoidal motion can be an approximate critical excitation to elastic and inelastic structures under the constraint of acceleration or velocity power, a resonant sinusoidal motion with variable period and duration is used as an input wave of the near-field and far-field ground motions. This enables one to understand clearly the relation of the intensity normalization index of ground motion (maximum acceleration, maximum velocity, acceleration power, velocity power) with the response performance (peak interstory drift, total input energy). It is proved that, when the maximum ground velocity is adopted as the normalization index, the maximum interstory drift exhibits a stable property irrespective of the number of stories. It is further shown that, when the velocity power is adopted as the normalization index, the total input energy exhibits a stable property irrespective of the number of stories. It is finally concluded that the former property on peak drift can hold for the practical design response spectrum-compatible ground motions.
