A Study on the Improvement of Ventilation Effectiveness in High-rise Apartment Buildings (초고층 공동주택의 환기효율 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The efficiency of ventilation system is one of the most important issues of designing ventilation in high-rise apartment buildings. The purpose of this study is to analyze the ventilation efficiency of ventilation system by experimental study using CO2 gas method. The results of this paper can be summarized as follows; (1) An appropriate ventilation including opening planning, mechanical and hybrid system are required. (2) The supply diffuser of ventilation system should be located near the contaminant source. (3) The return grill should be located along with supply diffuser for proper ventilation. and the return grill should be located near or right above the contaminant source. (4) However, the supply location right above the contaminant source has to be avoided. and the supply diffuser should be installed in module with return grill increase ventilation effectiveness.

  • The $TiO_2$ nanofiber doped $TiO_2$ electrode area applied to dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs). The mixtures of $TiO_2$ nanofiber to $TiO_2$ photoelectrode has larger surface area than $TiO_2$ photoelectrode. In this research added 2.5, 5 and 10wt% $TiO_2$ nanofibers and the optimum condition of 5 wt% $TiO_2$ nanofiber's high surface area contributing the improvement of short-circuit photocurrent. The open-circuit voltage was 0.7V and solar energy conversion efficiency was 5.4%.

  • In this study, the hydraulic breaker system was analyzed and the analysis tool using GUI was developed. The analysis on the system with the accumulator was included. From the parametric analysis, the effects of each factor were revealed. Through the simulation with varying parameters, the method to improve the performance of the hydraulic breaker system was presented. The analysis tool will help a man without special knowledge about programming analyze the hydraulic breaker system. The result of this study will help improve the hydraulic breaker system in sight of Blow energy and Blows per minute.

  • A low concentrating (< 5X) photovoltaic module with aluminum reflectors is fabricated and evaluated which is designed to reduce the affection of the high temperature to the solar cell modules preventing the efficiency lowering. As results, the output power is increased of 1.97X from the concentrating photovoltaic module which is designed with the concentrating ratio of 2.25X and to control the module temperature cooling the module by air circulation. Also, the effect of the concentrating module with aluminum reflectors on the conventional PV module is investigated at the field. The result shows the increase of the output power more than about 20% and the improvement of the module efficiency of 1.4X in spite of the increase of average module temperature.

  • The pilot scale ultrasonic deinking was carried out in order to confirm the commercialization possibility of ultrasonic deinking. White ledger was used as a raw material and the results were compared to the results obtained from the conventional deinking. The fraction of smaller ink particle was increased and the improved ink removal efficiency was also obtained by the ultrasonic treatment. The brightness and breaking length of ultrasonic deinked pulp were superior to those of the conventional deinked pulp. Most interesting findings in this study were that the significant improvement in effluent quality and the reduction of chemicals and energy cost were obtained by the ultrasonic deinking.

  • In this paper, we study effect of charge balance on performance of blue phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Charge balance determines the location of recombination zone in the OLEDs. By tuning the charge balance in iridium (III) bis[(4,6-difluorophenyl)-pyridinate-N,C2']picolinate (FIrpic) based blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting devices (PHOLEDs) with a high mobility and high triplet energy electron transporting material, we were able to achieve a high current efficiency of 60 cd/A which is a 3X improvement over previous devices with 3,5'-N,N'-dicarbazole-benzene (mCP) host.

A High Efficiency DC-DC Boost Converter with Passive Regenerative Snubber

  • This paper describes the improvement in converter efficiency by reducing the switching loss and by recovering the snubber stored energy. A capacitive based passive regenerative snubber circuit is modeled for a dc-dc boost converter. The proposed snubber is mainly used to reduce the turn-off loss of the main switch. The energy recovery process and the turn-off loss depends on the size of the snubber capacitance; therefore, the conventional and the proposed converters are designed for high and low input voltage conditions with different sizes of the snubber capacitance. Based on the results obtained, the snubber capacitors are classified as small, normal and large snubbers. The Matlab simulation results obtained are presented.

  • In this paper, computer modeling works have been performed for the power generation Rankine cycle using new working fluids and liquefied natural gas (LNG) cold heat. PRO/II with PROVISION released January 2023 from AVEVA company was used, and Peng-Robinson equation of the state model with Twu's alpha function was selected for the modeling of the power generation cycle. Optimal working fluid composition was determined to maximize LNG cold heat to increase power generation efficiency and net power production.

  • The adaptation of smartfarm technology that converges ICT is increasing productivity and competitiveness in the agriculture. Technologies have been developed that enable environmental monitoring through various sensors and automatic control of the cultivation environment, and researches are underway to advance smartfarm technology using data generated from smartfarms. In this paper, an environmental control method to reduce the energy consumption of a smartfarm by using the environment and control data of the smartfarm is proposed. It was confirmed that energy consumption could be reduced compared to an independent environmental control method by creating an environmental prediction model using accumulated environmental data and selecting a control method to minimize energy consumption in a given situation by considering multiple environmental factors. In the future, research is needed to obtain higher energy efficiency through the advancement of the predictive model and the improvement of the complex control algorithms.
