Energy consumption in the instruction cacheaccounts for a significant portion of the total processor energy consumption. Therefore, reducing energy consumption in the instruction cache is important in designing embedded processors. This paper proposes a method for reducing dynamic energy consumption in the instruction cache by partitioning it to smaller (less energy-consuming) sub-caches. When a request comes into the proposed cache, only one sub-cache is accessed by utilizing the locality of applications. By contrast, the other sub-caches are not accessed, leading todynamic energy reduction. In addition, the proposed cache reduces dynamic energy consumption by eliminating the energy consumed in tag matching. We evaluated the energy efficiency by running cycle accurate simulator, SimpleScalar. with power parameters obtained from CACTI. Simulation results show that the proposed cache reduces dynamic energy consumption by $37%{\sim}60%$ compared to the traditional direct-mapped instruction cache.

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are composed of sensor nodes and a base station. The sensor nodes deploy a non-accessible area, receive critical information, and transmit it to the base station. The information received is applied to real-time monitoring, distribution, medical service, etc.. Recently, the WSN was extended to mobile wireless sensor networks (MWSN). The MWSN has been applied to wild animal tracking, marine ecology, etc.. The important issues are mobility and energy consumption in MWSN. Because of the limited energy of the sensor nodes, the energy consumption for data transmission affects the lifetime of the network. Therefore, efficient data transmission from the sensor nodes to the base station is necessary for sensing data. This paper, proposes an energy consumption model using two-tier clustering in mobile sensor networks (TTCM). This method divides the entire network into two layers. The mobility problem was considered, whole energy consumption was decreased and clustering methods of recent researches were analyzed for the proposed energy consumption model. Through analysis and simulation, the proposed TTCM was found to be better than the previous clustering method in mobile sensor networks at point of the network energy efficiency.
This study analyzed the standard school's energy usage and patterns as the zero-energy goal of primary school building, and proposed the energy reduction process of school building using energy analysis computing simulation tool. As a analysis simulation tool, Visual DOE 4.0 is used. For analysis of actual energy usage, selected primary school that is standard in the nation's energy consumption. Standard of the school's energy consumption analysis were devided into electric and gas energy. Input parameters of the simulation program based on the literature material and field survey material. after, but it was calibrated to comparison with the standard school's energy consumption. Finally, its energy usage analyzed by component and made the priority order of energy saving. Applied energy saving technologies are envelopment insulation, high efficiency lighting, high performance HAVC system and used active equipment system of solar collector and photovoltaic generation for additional savings.
In this study, an evaluation equation of energy efficiency of pneumatic driving apparatus is proposed. The evaluation equation is derived from state equation and energy equation of air in a control volume, and, the equation of motion of a moving part of a pneumatic cylinder. As a result, distribution of consumption energy and energy efficiency of pneumatic driving apparatus can be analyzed quantitatively. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by a pneumatic cylinder driving apparatus using a meter-out driving method.
The adaptation of smartfarm technology that converges ICT is increasing productivity and competitiveness in the agriculture. Technologies have been developed that enable environmental monitoring through various sensors and automatic control of the cultivation environment, and researches are underway to advance smartfarm technology using data generated from smartfarms. In this paper, an environmental control method to reduce the energy consumption of a smartfarm by using the environment and control data of the smartfarm is proposed. It was confirmed that energy consumption could be reduced compared to an independent environmental control method by creating an environmental prediction model using accumulated environmental data and selecting a control method to minimize energy consumption in a given situation by considering multiple environmental factors. In the future, research is needed to obtain higher energy efficiency through the advancement of the predictive model and the improvement of the complex control algorithms.
Currently the country's foreign energy dependence reaches approximately 97% and the total energy consumption percentage of buildings(commercial and domestic parts) reaches approximately 24%. Building energy saving by enhanced insulation will be very important issue. Therefore, the solution is required to reduce energy loss and increasing displeasure caused by excessive influx of solar energy through windows, to solve the problems like decoloration on indoor furniture an clothes by harmful ultraviolet rays, air conditioning and increased cost. This research used for commercialization and ills semination by basic information through a evaluation on insulation performance of the window of high efficiency energy equipment which can improve the insulation performance.

The recent environmental protection trend requires more strict energy saving, therefore every transportation system should reduce energy consumption to the minimum value. High-efficiency operation system, energy saving and CO2 emissions shall be addressed as important issue in railway system. These issues are the most essential factors of railway, compared to major public transportation system. Recently, saving energy in the electric railway system has been studied. For such new energy saving, the Energy storage system is considered for saving energy. Energy saving is possible by efficient use of regenerated energy. Regenerated energy is recycled amongst vehicles by mean of charge and discharge corresponding to powering and braking of electric vehicle operations. This energy saving contributes to cut CO2 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Recycling regenerated energy demonstrate significant effect on peak cut of consumption energy in railway substation. Absorption of excess energy avoids regeneration failure due to high traction voltage. This paper presents effects by applying the energy storage system to SeoulMetro Line 2.
Calculation equations of fired fuel comsumption rating at boiler can lead from combustion anal-ysis and boiler heat balance using mass & energy conservations. By comparing calculation equation results with those of measurement, we can confirm the deviation of fuel consumption rate, and correction rate, and correction degree, and can also establish the proven technology to apply the equation at the site. We applied fuel rate equation to the operating power plant and recorded $2.4\%\;&\;1.5\%$ of deviation at each coal and oil fired boilers. This range of deviation is regarded as trustable to apply the fuel consumption equation to the actual site.
In recent years, multicast services such as high-definition television (HDTV), video conferencing, interactive distance learning, and distributed games have increased exponentially, and wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks are considered to be a promising technology due to their support for multicast applications. Multicast survivability in WDM networks has been the focus of extensive attention since a single-link failure in an optical network may result in a massive loss of data. But the improvement of network survivability increases energy consumption due to more resource allocation for protection. In this paper, an energy-efficient multicast algorithm (EEMA) is proposed to reduce energy consumption in WDM networks. Two cost functions are defined based on the link state to determine both working and protection paths for a multicast request in WDM networks. To increase the number of sleeping links, the link cost function of the working path aims to integrate new working path into the links with more working paths. Sleeping links indicate the links in sleep mode, which do not have any working path. To increase bandwidth utilization by sharing spare capacity, the cost function of the protection path is defined to use sleeping fibers for establishing new protection paths. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated in terms of energy consumption, and also the blocking probability is evaluated under various traffic environments through OPNET. Simulation results show that our algorithm reduces energy consumption while maintaining the quality of service.
SEEMP (Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan) has entered into force since 2013 for the reduction of GHG emission of operating ships. SEEMP guidelines include the hardware modification or installation of energy-saving device on ship. It also includes software based energy-saving technology such as optimum routing, speed optimization, etc. Hardware based technologies are not easy to apply to ongoing vessel due to the operational restriction. Therefore, IT based energy-saving technology was applied and its energy efficiency was evaluated using before and after energy-saving system applied voyage data. SEEMP advises a voluntary participation of EEOI (Ship Energy Efficiency Operation Indicator) use as an indicator of ship energy efficiency operation, and those results were also shown to evaluate the improvement efficiency of energy-saving system.
