  • Thermal diode is a device which allows heat to be transferred in one direction by convection due to density difference of fluid ,and blocks heat flow in the opposite direction. It is simple in construction and low in cost. And so, it is used as heat collection system of solar energy. In order to acquire a basic design data, thermal diode heat collection system has been studied experimentally for flux Rayleigh numbers from $2\times10^8\;to\;8\times10^8$. The heat transfer rate of this system is shown 10~47% higher than that of other earlier research results. He correlation obtained in this study is Nu=0.0037(Ra^*)^{0.429}(d^*)^{0.05}\frac{(Lr)}{H}^{0.415}$.

  • The interaction between the surface radiation and the mixed convection transport from an isolated thermal source, with a uniform surface heat flux input and located in a rectangular enclosure, is stuied numerically. The enclosure simulates a practical system such an air cooled electric device, where an air-stream flows through the openings on the two vertical walls. The heat source represents an electric component located in such an enclosure. The size of this cavity is $0.1[m]{\times}0.1[m]$. The inlet velocity is assumed as 0.07[m/s] and the inlet temperature is maintained as $27^{\circ}C$. The inflow is kept at a fixed position. Laminar, two dimensional flow is assumed, and the problem lies in the mixed convection regime, governed by buoyancy force and surface readiation. The significant variables include the location of the out-flow opening, of the heat source and the wall emissivity. The basic nature of the resulting interaction betwwn the externally induced air stream and the buoyancy-driven flow generated by the source is investigated. As a result, the best location of the heat source to make the active heat transfer is 0.075[m] from the left wall on the floor. The trends observed are also discussed in terms of heat removal from practical systems such as electric circuitry.

  • Being carried out a number of studies for the resilient mounting system of automobile engine than that of the studies for marine engines, many research results for the case of the resilient mounting system of the automobile engine have applied in the analysis for the case of marine engine. However, the size and the power of automobile engines are not only relatively small but also their operating conditions are quite different form those of marine engines. For the analysis of the automobile engine Wavelet shrinkage, misfire condition and unload condition have not been considered. Accordingly , it is not desirable to apply the results obtained form the case of automobile engines to the case of marine engines. In this study , exciting and damping forces working on the marine engine are formulated mathematically in order to apply to the design of a resilient mounting system of engine effectively. futhermore, some mathematical formulation for the analysis of the transmissibility of multi-body system are proposed. A new computer program which is able to calculate the free vibration, the transmissibility and the forced vibration of a resilient mounting system has been developed, As an application of this developed computer program, the dynamic behavior of resilient system with an actual rubber spring for the case of 6-degree-of-freedom system and 36-degree-of-freedom system are evaluated quantitatively.

  • There are specific indications about additional gas for the unencloseable openings of the carbon dioxide extinguishing systems. But there are no indications for other gas extinguishing systems including clean agent extinguishing systems only have the principle when it need, apply it. Therefore, this study suggested applying the equation of additional gas for the unencloseable openings of the carbon dioxide to all of the other fire suppression gas that we are use.

  • The seamless integration of the architecture and structure of a tall building plays a key role in establishing a recognizable and iconic design. The structural system developed for Shenzhen Rural Commercial Bank Headquarters (SRCBH) utilizes enhanced structural innovations unique to the tower's geometry to improve structural and sustainability performance. SRCBH utilizes a steel diagrid system pulled outside of the enclosure line with diaphragm forces resolved primarily by corner diagonal beams. During the design process the structural systems underwent performance based design and optimization for wind and seismic loading. Resiliency was prioritized for structural design as well as fire resistance. More closely integrating the structure of a building with its architecture and sustainability goals can lead to unique and innovative towers with a timeless expression.

  • The laminar natural convection of air in 2-D rectangular enclosure in which two opposing isothermal walls were kept at different temperatures is investigated numerically for Rayleigh number up to $10^6$. Computations were performed for the width-to-height ratios of 1, 2, and 4, and for the inclination angle range of $0^{\circ}{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}90^{\circ}$. For each aspect ratio, the influence of the inclination angle on the flow patterns and heat transfer rates were examined for $10^3{\leq}Ra{\leq}10^6$. It is found that the growth of secondary flow in the corners led to the decrease in overall heat transfer for small aspect ratio case, and the transition from a three-cell structure to a unicell flow pattern in large aspect ratio led to a step-like change in heat transfer. A new correlation of mean Nusselt number is presented for the vertical case of ${\theta}=90^{\circ}$.

  • The objective of this study is to experimentally investigate the cooling performance characteristics with the consideration of the temperature variations of the enclosure of the 400W ferrofluid active speaker having both woofer and amplifier heat sinks. In order to do this, the heat sinks for both woofer and amplifier was designed ant applied to 400W ferrofluid active speaker. As a result, the cooling performance of the developed 400W ferrofluid active speaker was improved and the temperature of the enclosure after 120 min at steady state increased by $2.8^{\circ}C$ with the increase of the outdoor temperatures from $25^{\circ}C$ to $29^{\circ}C$. In addition, the overall sound pressure level of the developed 400W ferrofluid active speaker showed 111.8 dB and improved 1.9 dB higher than 109.9 dB of the existed speaker.

  • Civil petitions and law suits against the military rifle shooting noise have been increased because many military shooting ranges are located near civilian residential area. In order to solve the noise problems, military have devised various methods. In this study, propagation properties of rifle shot through atmosphere were investigated. The military rifle shooting noise level at 5m from muzzle was between $l14{\sim}120dB$ in all directions. The noise level loom both backward and sideward away from system firing range consisting lines of 8 shooting locations were 90dB, when shots were all fired within 10 seconds. At present some of military bases established sound barriers, muzzle enclosures, silencers, and indoor shooting ranges to reduce noises and these prevention methods can reduce noise by $5{\sim}20dB,\;5{\sim}9dB,\;5{\sim}13dB,\;40{\sim}50dB$, respectively. Even though indoor shooting range has the best performance, it requires very expensive construction cost and has short length between target and shooter. In comparison, muzzle enclosure is cheap, but because it is installed in fixed position it can only be used in one shooting position. Therefore a commander should select appropriate methods to reduce military rifle shooting noise considering distance from residential area to the range, mission of military training, budget, etc.

  • A vibration isolation system for a large reverberation chamber (1,228 $m^3$ and 1,000 ton) has been installed and verified. The reverberation chamber generates loud noise and induces high level of vibration while performing spacecraft acoustic reliability tests. The isolation system prevents vibration transfer from the chamber to the enclosure buildings. This paper describes design process and commissioning experiments of the system. Design criteria have been derived from rigid body model of the chamber. The stiffness of neoprene pads has been selected by employing finite element analysis of the reverberant chamber and isolation system. A total of 21 neoprene pads have been installed between the chamber and supporting Pedestals. A sand bag of 800kg was dropped on the chamber floor to measure the natural frequency of the isolation system. While 136.9 dB noise is generated in the chamber, absolute transmissibility of the isolation system has been measured. The measured natural frequency of the chamber is 10.2Hz, which is 80% of the predicted value. Overall transmissibility at working frequency range (25∼10.000 Hz) is less than -12.4 dB.
