  • Southeast Asia has been a showcase for democratic transitions in the past 30 years. This paper proposes a conceptual lens for studying political shifts in the Southeast Asian region. The argumentative storyline follows two fundamental propositions about democratic transitions. My first proposition is that during democratic transitions, human phenomena arise on nested analytical layers namely the global arena, the state, prodemocracy movements, and individuals. Each layer is conventionally studied by international relations, political science, sociology, and psychology respectively. I propose a multidisciplinary lens that transverses all these analytical layers. A second proposition is that during political shifts, social conditions are historically-situated. Historicity is anchored on stages of democratization, namely the authoritarian regime, toppling the regime, power shift, state building, and nation building. This paper describes a 4 × 5 matrix (analytical layer × historical stage) that may guide a regional agenda on the empirical study of democratic transitions in the Southeast Asian region. It likewise gives examples of research findings in Philippine-based studies that have already begun to provide empirical data about segments of this research matrix.

  • In order to evaluate the dielectric recovery strength for GCBs, two equations have been usually utilized. One is the empirical formula obtained from a series of tests and the other is the theoretical formula obtained from the streamer theory. In this paper, both methods were applied to predict the small capacitive current interruption capability of model circuit breakers and were investigated in terms of the reliability by comparing the simulation results with test ones.

  • HVDC protection setting is difficult to be calculated analytically because of its strong nonlinearity. The currently used setting method is based on the empirical setting of previous projects and then verified by digital simulation. It entails a huge workload and low efficiency. To facilitate protection setting, this paper systematically summarizes the HVDC protection characteristics and then presents a classification of HVDC protections according to the protection principles. On the basis of the fault quantities, a novel setting procedure suitable for travelling wave protection, derivative and level protection, and differential protection is proposed. The proposed procedure is illustrated and verified in detail with the example of travelling wave protection. An HVDC protection setting system that has the functions of automatic protection setting and data management is developed utilizing the C# programming language.

  • In this paper the modeling of interrupting characteristics of a high voltage current limiting fuse to be used in a power distribution system is introduced. In order to reduce the level of energy which can be absorbed by equipment during fault current flow, a high voltage current limiting fuse can generate a high voltage at the fuse terminals. Consequently it is necessary to model and analyze precisely the voltage and current variation during a CL fuse action. The characteristics of CL fuse operation modeled by electrical components have been performed with less than 6 [$\%$] errors. So the fuse designer or manufacturer can estimate the characteristics of CL fuse operation by using this modeling. The Electro Magnetic Transient Program (EMTP) is used to develop the modeling.

  • The Purpose of this study is to present basic data for the more reasonable and successful home management through understanding decision-making pattern that is the degree of their participation in the decision-making and their joint decision-making. Also, this study is the preliminary research for more scientific and wider studies on the Decision-Making and Marital Power Structure in Korea. This study make investigation into decision-making and marital power which is published on the Journal of Korean home Economics Association and the Journal of Korean Home Management Association and thesis for a degree form 1960's to 1987. As a result, the higher wife's age, education level are the more their participation, The increase of the wife's participation in the decision-Making can be regarded as the affirmative phenomenon in the decision-making can be regarded as the affirmative phenomenon that their status are raised in home management and joint decision are carried out. In 1970's, not only the generalization of the empirical studies have been increased but also the general theories(resource theory, exchange theory, system theory ) have been developed.

  • An alternating conditional expectation (ACE) algorithm, a kind of non-parametric regression method, is proposed to generate empirical correlations automatically. The ACE algorithm yields an optimal relationship between a dependent variable and multiple independent variables without any preprocessing and initial assumption on the functional forms. This algorithm is applied to a collection of 12,879 CHF data points for forced convective boiling hi vertical tubes to develop a new critical heat flux (CHF) correlation. The meat root mean square, and maximum errors of our new correlation are -0.558%, 12.5%, and 122.6%, respectively. Our CHF correlation represents the entire set of CHF data with an overall accuracy equivalent to or better than that of three existing correlations.

  • This study aims at examining each firm's decision-makings of complex product and system (hereafter CoPS) innovation strategy, so that it tries to reveal the nature and role of CoPS innovations strategy. And it designed a comparative case study along with qualitative methods, by having two mobile operators' digital rights management (hereafter DRM) innovation in South Korea's digital music service industry. Through literature review, this study formulated three research propositions: (i) Each firm's decision-makings of CoPS innovations strategy are analytical negotiation process among economic actors in an industry; (ii) Each firm's market power originated from its market share from the installed base through network effect and switching cost influence decision-makings of CoPS innovation strategies; (iii) Each firm's decision-makings of different CoPS innovation strategies are related to their intension of achieving better market power, consequently dominant design. Through empirical examination of two mobile operators' decision-makings of DRM innovation strategy, this study empirically verified three research propositions.

  • Weibull distribution is a suitable distribution to use in modeling the life time data. It has been found to be a exact fit for the empirical distribution of the wind speed measurement samples. In brief this paper consist of important properties and characters of Weibull distribution. Also we discuss the application of Weibull distribution to wind speed measurements and derive an expression for the probability distribution of the power produced by a wind turbine at a fixed location, so that the modeling problem reduces to collecting data to estimate the three parameters of the Weibull distribution using Maximum likelihood Method.

  • The Kepler space mission provides quantitative and qualitative photometric time series of oscillating stars. It is possible to examine statistical study with seismic properties of solar-like stars. Global seismic properties - large frequency separation (${\Delta}{\nu}$), frequency of maximum power (${\nu}_{max}$) and amplitude of Gaussian envelope (A) widely have been used to determine empirical scaling relations for inferring the stellar physical quantities - mass, age and temperature. We aim to confirm whether width of Gaussian envelope on power excess (${\delta}{\nu}_{env}$) can be used with parameter of scaling relation before redgiant phase using Kepler data. Therefore we analyze the characteristics of ${\delta}{\nu}_{env}$ of 129 solar-like stars from main-sequence to subgiant. We have demonstrated that ${\delta}{\nu}_{env}$ has highly correlations with global parameters - ${\Delta}{\nu}$ and ${\nu}max$. We have also found the break of ${\delta}{\nu}_{env}-{\Delta}{\nu}$ and ${\nu}_{max}$ relations.

  • This paper presents design and analysis of an HID lamp ballast for a fast turn on characteristics and stable operation. It produces a high open circuit voltage for the ignition and it is controlled to supply effectively the power required to shorten the warm-up period after the breakdown. The lamp modeling by empirical data is presented. It is very effective in the designing of the control loop in the steady-state operating region. A stable operation of the lamp power regulation in the steady state is achieved, which is crucial for the long life time and constant light output. Stability analysis of the system is performed and the results are verified through various simulation results and the hardware experiments.
