In this study, we propose an alternative method for discriminant analysis using a multivariate empirical distribution function to express multivariate data as a simple one-dimensional statistic. This method turns to be the estimation process of the optimal threshold based on classification accuracy measures and an empirical distribution function of data composed of classes. This can also be visually represented on a two-dimensional plane and discussed with some measures in ROC curves, surfaces, and manifolds. In order to explore the usefulness of this method for discriminant analysis in the study, we conducted comparisons between the proposed method and the existing methods through simulations and illustrative examples. It is found that the proposed method may have better performances for some cases.

Frost depth is one of important factors to design roadway structure, and it can be estimated with numerical simulation on thermal distribution through subgrade soils. Thermal conductivity is a key parameter for accurate prediction on thermal distribution, but there are few studies on thermal conductivity of subgrade soils in Korea. Thermal conductivity can be affected by several factors such as dry density, moisture content, and saturation degree based on previous researches. Two empirical equations to estimate thermal conductivity are applied to access the accuracy of these equations with experimental data. Results indicate that the equation can be used to estimate thermal conductivity with proper quartz fraction.

Striping is a main factor for imaging spectroradiometer data, which is obtained by multi-sensor scanning on spacecraft. The reason causing stripes and the development of striping removal methods are simply described in this paper, particularly, the principle of Matching Empirical Distribution Functions is introduced in detail. By using this method, some experiments are done to destripe imaging spectrometer data of SZ-3. The result shows that the method of Matching Empirical Distribution Functions is available for destirping Imaging spectroradiometer data of SZ-3, and the quality of image is improved obviously. This will help to process the future similar instruments data.

Purpose - This study attempts to examine the new concept of mobile internet users' lifestyles through empirical analyses based on the i-VALS concept study that had classified the VALS program, among others, aiming at internet users. Research design, data, and methodology - A total of 300 questionnaire copies were distributed, of which 273 were collected; only 244 were used for the empirical study after excluding some inappropriate or unusable ones. To analyze the data collected, the SPSS/WIN 19.0 statistical package was used, and the lifestyles of mobile internet users were reclassified after analyzing the reliability and validity of the responses. Results - The study involved the empirical analyses of the new concept of the mobile internet users' lifestyles based on the i-VALS concept study, of which the subjects were internet users. Conclusion - It is possible to provide enterprises with more systematic and objective fundamental data based on the characteristics of mobile internet users' lifestyles, to help enterprises with their establishment of market segmentation strategies for promoting mobile shopping in the future.

The purpose of this study is to analyse the realities of fundraising and distribution of the local community chest in Korea. Until now little empirical study has been conducted concerning the culture of giving. Using the sample of 900 citizens selected from 7 cities and another sample of 230 from policy-making group in 16 local community chest, this study analysed empirical1y how the capacity, motivation and opportunity of the prospective donors are related to giving and the current issues of fundraising and distribution. According to the results of analysis, the level of motivation in giving culture is very low. Also it was found that religious beliefs is the most important motivating factor in giving. Participation in volunteer activities is another important factor to influencing giving. Some effective fundraising strategies are suggested including strengthening the motivation of prospective donors, workplace donation and joint-fundraising with religious organization or other foundation, coordinating fundraising activities between the community chest and other social welfare agencies. Program-oriented distribution and change of some distribution standards are stressed as an effective distribution strategy.

Kullback-Leibler (KL) information is a measure of discrepancy between two probability density functions. However, several nonparametric density function estimators have been considered in estimating KL information because KL information is not well-defined on the empirical distribution function. In this paper, we consider the KL information of the equilibrium distribution function, which is well defined on the empirical distribution function (EDF), and propose an EDF-based goodness of fit test statistic. We evaluate the performance of the proposed test statistic for an exponential distribution with Monte Carlo simulation. We also extend the discussion to the censored case.

Uncertainty study of shear strength characteristics of the marine clays was carried out based ell In-situ tests and laboratory tests on tile south-east coastal region of the Korean peninsula. Theoretical analyses were studied using both tile spherical cavity expansion theory in finite soil mass and the strain path method to determine tile cone factor using the undrained shear strengths obtained by in-situ tests, and the empirical methods in accordance with the ultimate resistance theory were also discussed. Analysis show that the empirical methods suggest more reasonable value than that of theoretical methods in terms of comparing the cone factor estimated using linear regression and frequency distribution analyses. The cone factors obtained by the empirical methods are 18, 15, and 6 respectively, from the results of total cone resistance, effective cone resistance, and excess porewater cone resistance method, and the estimated were similar to those of previous researcher's.

Purpose - As the market economy deepens, the issue of social equity caused by income distribution becomes more and more significant. Therefore, this paper attempts to exploit the determinants of income distribution in terms of macroeconomics. Research design, data, and methodology - The data set from 1990 to 2017 will be used to conduct an empirical analysis under a menu of econometric approaches such as vector autoregressive model and impulse response function. The income distribution and other macroeconomic variables such as foreign direct investment and employment will be used to conduct an empirical analysis to explore the determinants of income distribution in terms of macroeconomics. Results - The findings indicate that the income distribution is related with macroeconomics. More specifically, the export, import, GDP and foreign direct investment play a role in deteriorating the income distribution. Conversely, the industrialization, inflation and employment can improve the income distribution. Unfortunately, the inflation and employment do not get through under 5% significant test. Conclusions - Due to that a good income distribution can be beneficial for both a country and an individual, this paper provides a new scope for China's government to improve its income distribution in terms of macroeconomics.

본 연구는 신 국제무역이론(Melitz, 2012, 2014, 2015)에 대한 실증분석을 목적으로 한다. 신 국제무역이론은 기업기술역량에 대한 이질적 기업분포가 무역효과에 미치는 영향을 중심으로 전개되고 있으며, 기업기술역량분포형태가 무역효과를 결정한다는 중요한 가정에서 출발한다. 본 연구는 실증적으로 우리나라 제조업에 기업기술역량분포를 추정하였다. 이 연구목적을 위하여 우리나라 총 기업기술역량분포를 기술혁신과 기술모방분포로 분리하였으며, 분포형태의 적합성에 대하여 통계적으로 검증하고, 신 국제무역이론기반에 대한 적정성을 평가하였다. 연구시사점으로 본 분석결과를 바탕으로 기술정책 및 산업정책 방향을 간단하게 제언하였다.
