Settlement prediction for footings based on stress history from VS measurements

  • A settlement prediction method based on shear wave velocity measurements and soil nonlinearity was recently developed and verified by means of centrifuge tests. However, the method was only applicable to heavily overconsolidated soil deposits under enlarged yield surfaces. In this study, the settlement evaluation method was refined to consider the stress history of the sublayer, based on an overconsolidation ratio evaluation technique, and thereby incorporate irrecoverable plastic deformation in the settlement calculation. A relationship between the small-strain shear modulus and overconsolidation ratio, which can be determined from laboratory tests, was adopted to describe the stress history of the subsurface. Based on the overconsolidation ratio determined, the value of an empirical coefficient that reflects the effect of plastic deformation over the elastic region is determined by comparing the overconsolidation ratio with the stress increment transmitted by the surface design load. The refined method that incorporate this empirical coefficient was successfully validated by means of centrifuge tests, even under normally consolidated loading conditions.

  • 가행광산 지반침하 실태조사를 통하여 현 채광방법에 따른 지반침하 가능성과 대책을 분석하였다. 금속광산은 대부분 휴 폐광 상태로서 싱크홀의 침하양상을 나타내고 있다. 석탄광은 점점 더 심부화 되어가고 있으며, 기존 채광지역에서 트러프형의 침하양상을 보였다. 비금속 광산은 대규격 광산개발 이력이 30년 이내로서 크고 작은 지반변형의 문제가 조사되었다. 채광 또한 기술적 방법보다 경험적인 방법에 더 의존함으로써 시간 의존성에 따른 지반침하 가능성이 상존하였다. 따라서 비금속 광산 위주의 체계적인 개발방법과 지반침하 방지에 대한 다양한 연구가 수행 되어야 할 것으로 본다.

RPUM 강관의 효율적인 설계기법에 관한 연구 (A Study on Efficient Design Technique of RPUM Steel Pipes)

  • Until now, NATM(New Austrian Tunneling Method) has been increasingly developed based on concept of making use of ground as support. Also, NATM in its essence is a method of risk based on monitoring behaviour of tunnel. This Monitoring is irreplaceable for the quality construction of tunnel, and safety of tunnel itself. Pre-reinforcement ahead of a tunnel face using long steel pipes in NATM, known as the RPUM(Reinforced Protective Umbrella Method), is the auxiliary method to sustain the stability of a tunnel face and reduce the ground settlements. Since design of RPUM has been dependent on the empirical design, it is necessary to develop the improved design methods. In this study, to understand behaviour of steel pipes, it is monitored displacement of tunnel crown, axial force of rock bolt, displacement and axial stress of steel pipes. Also, in order to clarify the mechanical behaviour and RPUM effects, 3-Dimensional numerical analysis is performed that various cases of different parameter combinations including original length and repeated length of steel pipes, installation width and angle, repeated length of steel. In the results of comparison monitoring with analysis, it is suggested more economical and efficient design technique than empirical design methods.

Preliminary strong ground motion simulation at seismic stations within nuclear power plant sites in South Korea by a scenario earthquake on the causative fault of 2016 Gyeongju earthquake

  • Stochastic and an empirical Green's function (EGF) methods are preliminarily applied to simulate strong ground motions (SGMs) at seismic stations within nuclear power plant (NPP) sites in South Korea by an assumed large earthquake with MW6.5 (scenario earthquake) on the causative fault of the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake with MW5.5 (mainshock). In the stochastic method, a ratio of spectral amplitudes of observed and simulated waveforms for the mainshock is assumed to be an adjustment factor. In the EGF method, SGMs by the mainshock are simulated assuming SGMs by the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake with MW5.0 (foreshock) as the EGF. To simulate SGMs by the scenario earthquake, a ratio of fault length to width is assumed to be 2:1 in the stochastic method, and SGMs by the mainshock are assumed to be EGF in the EGF method. The results are similar based on a bias of the simulated response spectra by the two methods, and the simulated response spectra by the two methods exceeded commonly standard design response spectra anchored at 0.3 g of NPP sites slightly at a frequency band above 4 Hz, but considerable attention to interpretation is required since it is an indirect comparison.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a application procedure and survey method for the empirical diagnostic indices system. In order to know the survey method, which has 65 investigation items for 52 indicators, this study not only presented so that the each survey items could be surveyed in at least 1 to 3 steps, but also presented the 4 survey method for each investigation items: preliminary survey, administrative survey, field survey, and interview survey. As a result of applying to 15 sample villages, the period of surveying a village of 100 households was 1.4 days, and it was confirmed that the survey was generally efficient in a short time. As a result of applying the survey system to the sample village, the developed survey system showed the possibility of investigating even the details of rural villages. Therefore, it was judged that it could be used as a basic procedure for a rural village unit survey.

질화물계 반도체 GaP1-X NX의 에너지 밴드갭 계산 (The Calculation of the Energy Band Gaps of Zincblende GaP1-X NX)

  • 본 연구에서는 무질서 효과가 고려된, 새로이 가정한 가상 결정 근사법을 갖는 empirical pseudopotential method를 사용하여 온도와 조성비 변화에 따른 3원계 질화물계 화합물 반도체 GaP1-xNx의 휨 매개변수 및 에너지 밴드갭을 계산하였다. 300K의 조성비 구간($0{\leq}x{\leq}0.05$)에서 에너지 밴드갭들이 급격히 감소하며, 해당하는 계산된 휨 매개변수가 13.1eV임을 알 수 있었다. 에너지 밴드갭 계산 결과로부터 굴절률 n과 실수부 유전상수 함수 ${\varepsilon}$를 계산하였고, 에너지 밴드갭 계산 결과는 실험치를 대체로 잘 설명하였다.

Using ranked auxiliary covariate as a more efficient sampling design for ANCOVA model: analysis of a psychological intervention to buttress resilience

  • Drawing a sample can be costly or time consuming in some studies. However, it may be possible to rank the sampling units according to some baseline auxiliary covariates, which are easily obtainable, and/or cost efficient. Ranked set sampling (RSS) is a method to achieve this goal. In this paper, we propose a modified approach of the RSS method to allocate units into an experimental study that compares L groups. Computer simulation estimates the empirical nominal values and the empirical power values for the test procedure of comparing L different groups using modified RSS based on the regression approach in analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) models. A comparison to simple random sampling (SRS) is made to demonstrate efficiency. The results indicate that the required sample sizes for a given precision are smaller under RSS than under SRS. The modified RSS protocol was applied to an experimental study. The experimental study was designed to obtain a better understanding of the pathways by which positive experiences (i.e., goal completion) contribute to higher levels of happiness, well-being, and life satisfaction. The use of the RSS method resulted in a cost reduction associated with smaller sample size without losing the precision of the analysis.

확정론적 모의기법에 의한 도시유출 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on urban runoff by deter ministic simulation techniques.)

  • 본 연구는 확정론적 모의기법 중 영국도로시험연구소에서 개발한 R.R.L법을 포장 지역이 넓은 인천에 위치한 간석동 아파트에 적용하여 그 실용성을 검토하였다. 인천지방의 전체적이고 합리적인 결과를 얻기 위하여 과거 28년간 누가우량 곡선에서 얻은 10mm 이상 되는 강우 450개를 5분 간격으로 읽어 확률빈도통계인 HUFF의 사분위법을 이용 확률빈도백분율곡선을 얻어 R.R.L법에 적용하였다. 인천지방의 확률빈도백분률 곡선은 제2 구간이 전체의 43.2%를 나타내므로 설계우량의 우량주상도는 제을구간에서 추출함이 바람직하다.

  • 본 연구에서는 무질서 효과가 고려된, 새로이 가정한 가상 결정 근사법 내의 Empirical Pseudopotential Method(EPM)를 사용하여 3원계 질화물계 화합물 반도체 InAs1-xNx의 휨 매개변수 및 에너지 밴드갭을 계산하였다. InAs1-xNx 조성비 구간($0{\leq}x{\leq}0.05$)에서 계산된 휨 매개변수는 4.1eV를 갖으며, 해당되는 에너지 밴드갭들이 급격히 감소하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. EPM에 의한 계산 결과를 온도와 조성비를 고려한 수정된 Band Anti-Crossing(BAC) 모델에 적용하여 질화물계 화합물 반도체 InAs1-xNx의 에너지 띠구조를 계산하였다. 또한 InAs1-xNx의 결합 상수 CMN=1.8 등을 결정할 수 있었으며, 계산결과는 실험치를 대체로 잘 설명할 수 있었다.

재성형점토의 압축특성을 이용한 자연점토의 압축지수 추정 (Evaluation of Compression Index for Natural Clay Using the Compression Characteristic of Reconstituted Clay)

  • 압축지수는 점토의 압축특성을 나타내는 대표적인 물성치로 압밀시험으로 직접 결정하거나, 점토의 기본 물성으로부터 경험적 방법으로 추정한다. 그러나 자연점토의 압축지수는 지반 물성치뿐 아니라 퇴적상태에 영향을 받으므로 경험적 추정방법은 지역적 한계를 지닌다. 본 연구에서는 재성형점토의 압축특성을 이용하여 지반 물성치로부터 자연 점토의 압축지수를 추정하는 새로운 방법을 제안하였다. 부산점토의 압밀시험 결과를 통해 제안방법의 적합성을 검증하였으며, 오차원인을 분석하였다. 분석결과 제안된 방법은 경험적 추정방법보다 압축지수를 정확하게 추정하였다. 제안방법의 오차는 가정사항에 의해 발생하며, 추정오차는 $e_{cross}/e_0$와 명확한 반비례 관계를 나타냈다.
