Evolution and Historical Review of Music in Mass Media

  • In this paper, we explore the historical development and revolutionary impact of music in mass media across various forms, including radio, television, film, and digital platforms. The evolution of music in mass media reflects significant technological and cultural shifts over the past century. From the early days of radio to the advent of digital streaming, music has played a crucial role in shaping the types of mass media. Early radio broadcasts in the 1920s relied on live performances and recordings to captivate audiences, establishing music as a central element of media content. The rise of television in the 1950s brought new opportunities for music integration, with theme songs, variety shows, and music videos becoming staples of TV programming. The film industry further revolutionized the use of music, with iconic scores enhancing cinematic storytelling and emotional depth. The digital revolution of the late 20th century introduced new formats and services, expanding access to music and transforming consumption patterns. Recently, streaming platforms and social media allow for personalized music experiences and direct artist-fan interactions. Through an analysis of technological advancements, this study highlights the integral role of music in enhancing narrative, evoking emotions, and creating cultural identities. We present our understanding of this evolution to provide insights into future trends and potential innovations in the integration of music with mass media, including the use of artificial intelligence and virtual reality to create immersive auditory experiences.

A Survey of Urban Middle-Aged Women's Transition (중년여성의 전환상태 실태조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify transition conditions, health behavior and indicators of healthy transitions among middle-aged women based on Schumacher & Meleis(1994) transition model for developing intervention program for their health promotion. A convenience sample of 221 women aged 40-60 was obtained in Jung-Gu, Seoul and they were asked to complete the questionnaires, which consisted of modified health-promoting lifestyle profile(HPLP), knowledge of menopause, physical well-being, emotional well-being, modified women's role integration protocol (WRIP), Beck's Depression Inventory(BDI), and indicators of healthy transition with subcategories such as subjective well-being, role mastery and well-being of interrelationship. The results were as follows: 1. Women had a mean age of 47.53 years. More than half(53.39%) of the women had jobs and 88.69 % had their spouses, Of 221 women, 51.13 % were premenopausal, 19.91% were perimenopausal, and 28.96% were postmenopausal. 2. Women scored lower on health responsibility and exercise than on self actualization, nutrition and interpersonal support among subcategories of health behavior measured the modified HPLP. Only 11.98% of respondents had breast-self examination and 42.66% had pap smear for screening cancer. 3. In transition conditions, women had poor knowledge about menopause and median level of physical well-being, emotional well-being and stress. 15.45% of the women had clinical depression. 4. As for the outcome index of the transition model, the mean of indicators of healthy transition was 3.69(possible range 1-5). 5. The levels of education and economic and the menstrual status were significantly related to physical well-being, depression and stress in the categories of transition conditions. The total score of health behavior correlated negatively with depression. The total score of indicators of healthy transition correlated with physical well-being, emotional well-being, stress, and depression in the categories of transition conditions. In conclusion, these findings suggested a profile of fragile middle-aged women and contributed to developing the community-based intervention program for health promotion.

Comparison of Social Quotient and Sensory Processing According to the Toileting Ability in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (자폐스펙트럼장애 아동에서 대소변 가림 여부에 따른 사회지수 및 감각처리기능 비교)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in social quotient and sensory processing function between completed-toileting and incomplete-toileting children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We aims to provide a basis for the training of children with autism spectrum disorders. Methods : The subjects of this research were children with ASD, aged from 4 to 7, receiving sensory integration therapy at the H-Child Development Research Center in Busan, South Korea. After recruiting 30 parents who had children with ASD, we interviewed them and we divided their children into completed-toileting group and incomplete-toileting group based on the past researches. We assessed them using the Social Maturity Scale and Sensory Profile. Spearman correlation was used to analyze between the sensory processing score and social quotient. Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the Sensory Profile scores of the two groups. Results : The social quotient was correlated with the sensory processing score in the most of component as for auditory processing, vestibular processing, touch processing, multisensory processing, orosensory processing, except for visual processing. The groups of completed-toileting and incomplete-toileting group showed statistically significant intergroup difference in sensory seeking, emotional reactive, oral-sensory sensitivity, and inattention/distractibility in the sensory factor region. No statistically significant difference from intergroup was observed in any modulation areas, nor in behavioral & emotional response domains. Conclusion : A significant intergroup difference was observed in the most of sensory processing areas, except for modulation areas and behavioral & emotional response domains. The result revealed that toileting is significantly correlated with sensory processing. Therefore, this study suggests that the sensory processing function should be considered in the toilet training of children with ASD.

  • The aim of this study was to develop a model for teaching-teaming by applying Ubiquitous at a learning experience field, in which connect characteristics of both ubiquitous application learning and experience teaming, making use of them. A literature survey of concepts was conducted, with the main areas to find out relationships between ubiquitous application learning and experience learning. Experience learning by applying ubiquitous learning methods maximizes its efficiency of experience learning in considering ubiquitous learning methods's characteristics of dynamic, interaction, sharing. Also it makes communications through positive participation and active interaction, and leads to a process of internal examination. The research data suggests that critical factors of experiencing learning applying ubiquitous are acquiring information and memory, information integration and exquisiteness, emotional and social activity, producing activity, help activity.

  • As the method of providing information is getting multimedia, the synthetic voice is used in not only CTI(Computer Telephony Integration), information service for the blind, but also applications on internet. But properties of synthetic voice, such as speech rate, pitch, timbre and so on, are not adjusted to customers' preference but providers' preference. In order to consider customers' preference, this study proposed four subjective factors of voice through the evaluation of voice using the method of sensibility ergonomics. And the relation synthetic voice to be agreeable to the ear with emotional images was formulated as a fuzzy model. Consequently, this study proposed the speech rate and pitch of synthetic voice which is agreeable to the ear.

  • The purpose of this research is to understand the impact of integrated character education activities involving children's songs on children's emotional intelligence and empathic abilities. Research subjects were recruited from J preschool in H County. There were a total of 46 four-year old children who were divided into test and control groups. For 12 weeks, these children participated in activities two times per week for a total of 24 integrated character education activity sessions which consisted of learning and singing children's songs and integration of activities such as storytelling, music, science, building, movement, literature, and cooking. The summary of research findings is as follows: First, there was a significant difference in emotional intelligence between the test group which participated in integrated character education activities involving children's songs and the control group. Secondly, there was a significant difference in empathic abilities between the test group which participated in integrated character education activities involving children's songs and the control group. The result of this study is that writing songs for children and various developed programs should be needed for character education activities.

The Sexual Health for the Elderly in the Characteristics and Factors: Based on the WHO Sexual Health (WHO 성 건강에 근거한 노인 성 건강 특성과 영향요인)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics and factors of each area by considering the gender health of the elderly as the integration of mental, physical, emotional, and social gender health based on the WHO gender health. The sexual health of the elderly is significantly different by gender, academic background, and region, and there is a clear difference in mental, physical, emotional sexual health and social sexual health. The mental, physical and emotional sexual health of the elderly in urban areas, those with high education and male is high, but the elderly in the rural areas, those with low education, and female are high in social sexual health. The factors affecting sexual health are as follows. Mental sexual health was positively influenced by satisfaction of sexual life and sexual knowledge. Physical sexual health was positively influenced by life and spouse satisfaction, and emotional sexual health was positively influenced by sexual relationship, spouse satisfaction, sexual life satisfaction and sexual knowledge. Social sexual health has a negative (-) effect on spouse satisfaction and sexual relationships. Integrated sexual health in old age can affect subjective health and quality of life, leading to successful aging. Sexual health education is needed to form a safe and healthy sexual life and interpersonal relationship. The 'sex' that appears as a cumulative trajectory of life should be accompanied by the accurate sexual health awareness and sex education that encompasses all generations. Therefore, in the composition of sex health education program, it is necessary to reflect the components that can enhance the sensitivity of adulthood to strengthen understanding and communication of spouse.

The Intervention and Outcome Measurement Tools of Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Systematic Review (주의력결핍과잉행동장애 아동의 중재방법과 측정도구에 관한 체계적 고찰 : 국제 기능.장애.건강 분류 모델의 분류기준에 근거하여)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to provide for the intervention and outcome measurement tools of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) through ICF model. Methods : The systematic review methods were used. Papers published in the journal between January, 2000 and July, 2014 were searched through MEDLINE/PubMed, Sciencedirect, Ovid. The main terms searched were 'ADHD, Children, intervention, outcome measure', and 8 papers were analyzed. Results : 1. The subjects of ADHD were pure ADHD (75.8%), ADHD with dyslexia (9.1%), ADHD with conduct disorder (5.8%), ADHD with tic disorder (3.8%), ADHD with DCD (3.0%), ADHD with emotional disorder (2.5%). 2. The nonpharmacologic intervention of ADHD were functioning and disability (80%) and contextual factors (20%). Most frequently used intervention were body function and structure (60%). 3. The outcome measurement tools of ADHD were functioning and disability (80.5%) and contextual factors (19.5%). Most frequently used outcome measurement tools were body function and structure (70.8%). Conclusion : This study can provide information on the intervention and outcome measurement tools of ADHD.

Effects of Sensory Integration Therapy on Sensory. Motor Development and Adaptive Behavior of Cerebral Palsy Children (감각통합치료가 뇌성마비 아동의 감각.운동발달 및 적응행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of sensory integration therapy (SIT) on sensory' motor development and adaptive behavior of cerebral palsy children. The design of this study was quasi experiments with a non-equivalent pre- and post-test control design. Subjects of the study were arbitrarily chosen based on predetermined selection criteria among the cerebral palsy children who were treated as out-patients at two rehabilitation hospitals one in Seoul, and the other in Kyunggi-do. The study was conducted between early April and late July in 2000. Fifteen children were in the experimental group and eleven in the control group. The allocation was done based on ease of experimental treatment. A five-step SIT program was devised from a combination of SIT programs suggested by Ayres(1985) and Finks(1989), and an author-designed SIT program for cerebral palsy children. The experimental group was subjected to 20 to 30 minutes of SIT per session. two sessions a week for ten -week period. The effects of SIT were measured with respect to 9 sub-areas that can be administered to cerebral palsy children out of a total of 17 sub-areas in the Southern California Sensory Integration Test (SCSIT) developed by Ayres (1980). In addition. the scale developed by Russell (1993) for Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM). and Perception Motor Development Test developed by 中司利一 et al.(1987) were also applied. Adaptive behavior was analyzed using guidelines in two unpublished documents - School-Age Checklist for Occupational Therapy by the Wakefield Occupational Therapy Associates, and the OTA-Watertown Clinical Assessment by the Watertown Occupational Therapy Associates-, and an author-developed Adaptive Behavior Checklist. Collected data were statistically analyzed by SPSS PC for chi square test, Mann-Whitney test, Wilcoxon signed rank test, and paired t-test. The results were as follows: 1. In sensory development, the experimental group exhibited a score increase compared to the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant, Although the experimental group showed improvements in all. 9 sub-areas compared to the control group, only right-left discrimination exhibited statistically significant change. 2. In gross motor development, the experimental group showed improvements in score compared to the control group, but it was not statistically significant. In fine motor development, the experimental group exhibited statistically significant improvements compared to the control group. In sub-area analysis, figure synthesis showed positive change. 3. In adaptive behavior development, post-experimental adaptive behavior scores were higher compared to pre-experimental scores with statistical significance. Furthermore, sub-areas emotional behavior, perception behavior, gross-fine motor function, oral-respiration function, motor behavior, motor planning, and adaptive response exhibited higher scores after SIT. In conclusion SIT was found to be partially effective in sensory and fine motor development, effective in all adaptive behavior areas, and not effective in gross motor development. Thus, this study has shown that SIT is an effective intervention for sensory development, fine motor development, and adaptive behavior for cerebral palsy children. But, for the effectiveness of SIT on gross motor development, further studies employing longer-time experiments are recommended.

Relationship Between Interoceptive Awareness, Tactile Processing, and Heart Rate Variability (내수용 감각과 촉각처리 및 심박변이도 간의 관계)

  • Objective : The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between interoceptive awareness, sensory processing, and heart rate variability which reflects the function of the autonomic nervous system. Methods : Young adults completed the Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile (AASP) and the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA) for sensory processing and interoceptive awareness, respectively. Heart rate was recorded using electrocardiograms during the resting period, and the standard deviation of normal-to-normal interval (SDNN) was extracted. The correlation between sensory sections of the AASP and subscales of the MAIA was analyzed, and the differences in touch and interoceptive awareness between groups with high and low SDNN were compared. Results : The touch of the AASP showed a relatively strong correlation with the subscales of the MAIA. Higher touch scores were associated with lower scores of not-worrying and attention regulation, but higher emotional awareness. The high SDNN group showed a tendency of higher interoceptive awareness compared to the low SDNN group. Conclusion : This study demonstrated the tactile processing has the relationship with interoceptive awareness and individuals with higher heart rate variability tend to have greater interoceptive awareness. This study provides information on interoceptive awareness, which is emphasized in recent occupational therapy and sensory integration practices, and deepens the understanding of neurophysiological mechanism of sensory integration.
