  • The purpose of this study is to discover the possible solutions for the problem faced by academicians during online learning by means of employing qualitative and quantitative approaches. Using a qualitative approach, selected academicians were interviewed, and their feedback was transcribed and used to develop the survey instrument. The quantitative research design was later used to determine the most plausible solutions for the problem that could be obtained and implemented by distributing the questionnaire to academicians at a public university. Multiple regression analysis results indicate that work-life conflict and lack of support are the main contributors to academicians' mental and emotional health issues. The study's major findings help higher education institutions craft appropriate strategies to enhance the effectiveness of online teaching and learning by providing the necessary support to the academicians. The study's findings suggest that academicians should separate work and family requirements to concentrate on their job. Furthermore, the immediate supervisor must be considerate in determining the number of tasks, the deadlines, and the assistance required to complete the task. Lastly, academicians must equip themselves with emotional intelligence to cope with stressors.

  • The concept of empathy was examined In the professional caregiving relationship and its application was extended to the context of informal caregiving. Using the Lazarus and Folkman model, the influence of empathy on the caregiver's experience in the caregiving relationship was illustrated. The effects of the caregiver's empathy on his/her own caregiving outcomes were investigated by examining the relationship between empathy and burnout experience and life satisfaction. Empathy increased emotional exhaustion while increased personal accomplishment and personalization, indicating conflicting relationship between empathy and burnout. This conflict relationship between empathy and burnout can be explained by suggesting the distinct roles of two dimensions of empathy emotional and cognitive. The needs for more research to support the critical roles of empathy in informal caregiving context and to examine the definite roles of two dimensions of empathy were suggested.

  • Research has been conducted in many fields to identify research trends using text mining, but in the field of emotional labor, no research has been conducted using text mining to identify research trends. This study uses text mining to deeply analyze 1,465 papers at the Korea Citation Index (KCI) from 2004 to 2019 containing the subject word 'emotional labor' to understand the trend of emotional labor researches. Topics were extracted by LDA analysis, and IDM analysis was performed to confirm the proportion and similarity of the topics. Through these methods, an integrated analysis of topics was conducted considering the usefulness of topics with high similarity. The research topics are divided into 11 categories in descending order: stress of emotional labor (12.2%), emotional labor and social support (12.0%), customer service workers' emotional labor (10.9%), emotional labor and resilience (10.2%), emotional labor strategy (9.2%), call center counselor's emotional labor (9.1%), results of emotional labor (9.0%), emotional labor and job exhaustion (7.9%), emotional intelligence (7.1%), preliminary care service workers' emotional labor (6.6%), emotional labor and organizational culture (5.9%).
