  • We studied emission characteristics of blue fluorescent multi-tandem OLEDs using $Al/MoO_x$ as charge generation layer(CGL). Threshold voltage for 2, 3, 4, and 5 units tandem OLEDs was 8, 11, 14 and 18 V, respectively. The threshold voltage in multi-tandem OLEDs was lower than multiple of 4 V for the single OLED. Maximum current efficiency and maximum quantum efficiency of single OLED were 7.6 cd/A and 5.5%. Maximum current efficiency for 2, 3, 4, and 5 units tandem OLEDs was 22.6, 31.4, 41.2, and 46.6 cd/A, respectively. Maximum quantum efficiency for 2, 3, 4, and 5 units tandem OLEDs was 11.8, 15.8, 21.8, and 25.6%, respectively. The maximum current efficiency and maximum quantum efficiency in multi-tandem OLEDs were higher than multiple of those for the single OLED. The intensity for 508 nm peak was changed and the peak wavelength was red shift by increase of tandem unit in electroluminescent emission spectra. These phenomena can be caused by micro-cavity effect with increasing of organic layer thickness.

  • In case of fine machining processes, the cutting state monitoring by a skilled operator is impossible because the physical changes generated during fine machining are very weak. To realize the high efficient and precise fine machining, it is necessary to develop the sensor based monitoring system which is able to detect the fine changes of cutting state. In this paper, the fine acoustic emission monitoring system is developed to monitor the state of the fine machining process. The developed system consists of the AE sensor and the AE signal processing unit. And this has the high-sensitivity and bandwidth which can detect fine AE signal generated during fine machining process. In order to investigate the feasibility of the developed system, evaluation experiments were performed in the fine fixed-abrasive machining processes such as polishing and glass ferrule slicing. Experimental results show that the developed monitoring system possesses an excellent real-time monitoring capability at fine machining processes.

  • Flue gas recirculation (FGR) is widely adopted to control NO emission in combustion systems. Recirculated flue gas decreases flame temperature and reaction rate, resulting in the decrease in thermal NO production. Recently, it has been demonstrated that the recirculated flue gas in fuel stream, that is, the fuel induced recirculation (FIR), could enhance much improved reduction in NO per unit mass of recirculated gas, as compared to conventional FGR in air. In the present study, the effect of dilution methods in air and fuel sides on NO reduction has been investigated numerically by using $N_2$ and $CO_2$ as diluent gases to simulate flue gases. Counterflow diffusion flames were studied in conjunction with the laminar flamelet model of turbulent flames. Results showed that $CO_2$ dilution was more effective in NO reduction because of large temperature drop due to the larger specific heat of $CO_2$ compared to $N_2$. Fuel dilution was more effective in reducing NO emission than air dilution when the same recirculation ratio of dilution gas was used by the increase in the nozzle exit velocity, thereby the stretch rate, with dilution gas added to fuel side.

  • In this experimental research, fracture mechanisms of spheroidal graphite cast iron (As Cast, annealed and normalized) were investigated by using Acoustic Emission (AE) technique. In this study, the data (AE signal) are digitized and processed with the 8 bits micro-computer (APPLE II) connected to the AE measuring device without data processing unit. The source of AE signal was estimated by fractography analysis. The results obtained in this experimental study are summarized as follows : For the heterogeneous materials (spheroidal graphite cast iron) with inclusions which may considered as cracks, it is found that low and high AE amplitude appear simultaneously and the load is found to be fluctuated in the final stage of deformation. But the lad is not fluctuated in tension test with low AE amplitude only. AE is measured within elastic region and it is confirmed that 0.2% offset yield load agrees approximately with the load point where AE counts decrease steeply after the point of maximum AE counts.

  • A wireless acoustic emission (AE) system has been developed for continuous monitoring of rotating structures such as turbine rotors. The cable between preamplifier and signal processing unit of a conventional AE system was replaced by the frequency modulated telemetry. The detected signals were modulated and transmitted as an RF signals by the transmitting module, then received and demodulated by the receiving module. The distance between the transmitting and the receiving antennas could be separated up to 10cm within a reasonable signal-to-noise ratio. The simulated AE signals generated by pencil lead breaks from rotating structures were successfully detected using the developed wireless AE monitoring system.

  • An experimental study was performed to provide the effect of PM reduction and the improvement of diesel alternative ratio utilizing diesel-natural gas dual-fuel combustion mode in a retrofit 3.4-liter diesel engine. In order to achieve the same power as the original diesel engine, engine control unit (ECU) of the dual-fuel engine was calibrated. As a result, diesel alternative ratio was found that the maximum value of diesel alternative ratio was about 96%. Finally PM emission experiment was performed in C1-8 mode cycle and it was shown PM emission was extremely reduced down to $7.42{\ast}10^{-7}g/kWh$ comparing with mechanical diesel engine.

  • With the high sustain frequency at 250 kHz, a three-dimensional diagnostics of excited xenon atoms was investigated by the emission and absorption microscopic spectroscopy for plasma display panels, spatiotemporally. As a typical feature of the emissions, a broad discharge peak was observed on the temporal cathode and a sharp one was monitored on the anode, at the high frequency. However, the discharge starts from the cathode edge, actually, that is a discharge space on the floated address (or data) electrode. Spatially, the dense emission and absorption peak were observed in the discharge space between the sustain electrodes gap. Overall, the microdischarge at high sustain frequency showed priming dominant characteristics.

  • Blue light-emitting polyfluorene derivatives, poly[9,9-bis(4'-n-octyloxyphenyl) fluorene] (PBOPF), poly[9,9-bis(2'-ethylhexyl)]fluorene (PBEHF) and copolymers of PBOPF and PBEHF were synthesized through Ni(0) mediated polymerization and their light-emitting properties were investigated. The PBEHF thin film showed significant excimer band in PL spectra after thermal annealing at 100 $^{\circ}C$ for 2h. But no significant excimer emission was observed in the PL spectra of the PBOPF and the copolymers even after thermal annealing suggesting that BOPF unit effectively suppressed the excimer emission.

  • Since the efforts in transportation for counteracting Climate Change have been enhanced, it is necessary to reduce GHG emissions from railroad construction. The aim of this study was to develop the calculation method of GHG emissions at the step of railroad construction. Main emission source was the energy consumption from the used heavy equipments. Firstly, GHG inventory including equipments list, energy consumption, and work load was established with the detailed process using standard for the unit cost of construction. Also, the energy consumption of heavy equipments during track construction at A site was collected to compare with the field data. As a result, the GHG emissions between the estimated and the field were a little different, which was caused by the inaccurate field data. Therefore, it is important to manage data efficiently for the calculation of GHG emissions in the field of railroad construction.

  • We present a novel GPU accelerated search algorithm for broadband extended gravitational-wave emission (BEGE) with better than real-time analyis of H1-L1 LIGO S6 data. It performs matched filtering with over 8 million one-second duration chirps. Parseval's Theorem is used to predict the standard deviation ${\sigma}$ of filter output, taking advantage of near-Gaussian LIGO (H1,L1)-data in the high frequency range of 350-2000 Hz. A multiple of ${\sigma}$ serves as a threshold to filter output back to the central processing unit. This algorithm attains 80% efficiency, normalized to the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). We apply it to a blind, all-sky search for BEGE in LIGO data, such as may be produced by long gamma-ray bursts and superluminous supernovae. We report on mysterious features, that are excluded by exact simultaneous occurrance. Our results are consistent with no events within a radius of about 20 Mpc.
