  • This study aims to identify the factors that have effects on career preparation behaviors in college students studying Emergency Medical Technology and provide basic data for career guidance, career counselling and development of employment guidance programs. The subjects of the study were 450 who were randomly selected and conveniently sampled from the Departments of Emergency Medical Technology located in J Province, G Province, B and G Metropolitan Cities. The survey lasted from August 7th, 2017 to 9th of the same month after agreement on the survey was obtained from the targets and they were interviewed with the use of an organized questionnaire. 420 copies of the data collected were analysed with the use of SPSS ver. 14.0 for Window. As a result, it was discovered that career identity had a statistically significant positive effect on career preparation behaviors. Therefore, to facilitate preparation behaviors, they should be taught to have career identity, be motivated and supported to do more active career preparation behaviors.

  • Retention of CPR knowledge was assessed in a group of 86 police officers who participated in first aid and emergency rescue program on February, 2001 and 3 months later. Police officers were taken written test about CPR knowledge by American Heart Association Guidelines 2000 and competence level. Data were analyzed by Frequency, Percentage, Mean, paired t-test using SPSS program. The results for this study were as follows ; 1. In the post-test, the highest question was a rechecking time of circulation sign(98.8%), the lowest was a check for signs of circulation(17.4%), in 3months later, the highest question was a chest compression(94.2%), the lowest was a check for signs of circulation(1.2%), and a retention of CPR knowledge was a 71.7%. In 3months later, knowledge level was decreased compared to that of post-test(t=-9.09, p=.000). 2. In 3months later, the competence level was decreased compared to that of post-test(t=3.09, p=.003).

  • Purpose: This study was focused on the training effects of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) which is based on the AHA guideline 2010 for lay person. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the CPR training for civilian by checking the performance ability of the subjects before and after the CPR education. Method: This study was a single primary experimental study designed with pre and post test. Study subjects were 55 apartment managers who participated in all test on December 5 and December 11, 2011. The tools of this study were CPR performing evaluation sheet and CPR teaching program(AHA). Data were analysed by descriptive statistics, t-test, repeated ANOVA and Bonferroni with SPSS 18.0 program. Result: The CPR practice performing ability was significantly increased by test. The CPR practice performing ability of the learning experience group had significantly higher score than that of non-experience group. The self-confidence on CPR practice when faced emergency situation was highly increased after practice training. Conclusion: Practical performance evaluation score has improved step by step. The primary and secondary practical evaluation showed a significant difference in all items and practice-oriented education was found to be effective in CPR training.

  • Purpose: This protocol aims to improve the simplicity of the existing two-person cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by focusing on chest compressions and artificial respiration, and classifying the roles within the scope that can be observed. Methods: In this study, the protocol was developed by forming an expert group consisting of a professor from the emergency and rescue department, a professor from the nursing department, and a first aid officer from the fire department. In addition, if the number of panels is 15 and the derived content validity ratio (CVR) value exceeds 0.49, a reference point that satisfies content validity at 95% reliability is presented. Results: All 11 performance items exceeded the CVR value of 0.49 to meet the reference point, and the CVR range of this protocol is 0.625 to 1.000. Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of three-person CPR, verification of simulation models and continuous protocol revision should be conducted by individuals specializing in various fields.

  • Purpose: This descriptive study investigated the relationship between death awareness and life ethics awareness, according to life stress, among students in the department of paramedics. Methods: General characteristics were identified using means and frequency, and the differences between the two military models were analyzed using the χ2-test and t-test by dividing them into lower and higher groups based on the mean life stress score (99.76 points). Results: Those with high life stress had higher death awareness than those with low life stress at 114.11 points. In contrast, those with low life ethics experienced more severe life stress with a score of 145.61 points (t=-2.609, p=.010)(t=-2.953, p=.003). The death recognition attitude and bioethics according to the degree of living stress-showed a significant correlation between the low and high groups (r=.188, p=.043) (r=.201, p=.042). Conclusion: Paramedic students require education on how to cope with life stress. However, access to education is limited to people living in modern times. As a potential solution to this problem, observing videos on the Internet is recommended. Moreover, we suggest accessing Internet and smart phone applications for advertising/educational purposes.

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of the presence of multiple chronic diseases (MCDs) in older adults who transferred from long-term care hospitals (LTCHs) to emergency departments (EDs). According to the data from the national emergency department information system from January 1, to December 31, 2019, the number of older adults transferred from LTCHs to the ED due to chronic diseases was 13,608. Among those who MCDs, 79.9% were over 75 years old, and 74.0% were hospitalized for MCDs. The length of stay in the ED differed according to the presence of MCDs (P<0.001). As for the prevalence of MCDs, the odds ratio (OR) of the ED and in the hospitalized patients was high in Gwangju (OR 8.899 vs. 8.142) and Jeonbuk (OR 13.865 vs. 10.676). As described above, the characteristics of patients regarding the presence of MCDs varied according to age and region.
