대학정보공시를 통한 3년제 응급구조과의 주요 지표 분석 (Analysis of major indicators of departments of emergency medical technology in college through the university information disclosure system)

  • Purpose: This study looked into the reality of the emergency medical technology department by analyzing the major indicators of university information disclosure systems and finding the competitiveness of the department of emergency medical technology by reviewing various evaluation indices. Methods: This study is a survey of 24 colleges with emergency medical technology and emergency medical technology departments across the country. Quantitative index data from 2017 to 2019 were collected and analyzed through the university information disclosure center web site. Results: Departments of emergency medical technology are generally higher than the target colleges in quantitative indicators, but the indices are somewhat insufficient in terms of "rate of faculty in full service" and "research performance of per one faculty in full service." Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, we recommend increasing the low indicators to enhance the competitiveness of the departments of emergency medical technology.

119구급서비스 질 향상을 위한 이용자 만족도 분석 (Analysis of user's satisfaction for 119 emergency medical service quality improvement)

  • Purpose: The study aims to improve the quality of emergency medical services by surveying the user's satisfaction of 119 emergency medical services nationwide. Methods: From December 21 to December 27 each year from 2015 to 2017 a total of 5,889 people were surveyed by phone call in fire station. Results: The average degree of satisfaction with the emergency medical services was 4.17±0.70, with 85.1% respondents reporting being 'satisfied'. Factors like being a patient, injuries, residential area, and scene arrival time affected satisfaction. From 2015 to 2017, the satisfaction degree decreased every year, with factors affecting this results including "first aid guidance of phone call" and "rapidity of emergency medical services." The highest satisfaction factors were 'friendly acting of emergency medical services' and 'appropriate offer of emergency medical services', while the lowest satisfaction factors were 'first aid guidance of phone call' and 'adequacy of emergency medical team'. Conclusion: The quality of emergency medical services needs to be improved by managing the quality of phone call first aid guidance and the assignment of adequate emergency medical teams to increase user satisfaction.

일부지역 응급구조과 학생들의 죽음 불안 인식 (Perception of Death Anxiety Among Students Majoring in Emergency Medical Technology in Some Regions)

  • Purpose : This study aims at analyzing perception of death anxiety among juniors and seniors majoring in emergency medical technology to provide data which can contribute to curricular design associated with death that meets characteristics of the students majoring in emergency medical technology as pre-service emergency medical technicians. Methods : This study was conducted with 210 students as juniors or seniors majoring in emergency medical technology at four colleges in some regions(Yeongnam district), finally using 177 copies for data processing. Data collection was carried out from April 11 through May 16, 2008, Analysis was performed using frequency analysis, t-test, and ANOVA. Statistical processing was implemented using an SPSS WIN 15.0 program. Results: 1. 83.6% of students majoring in emergency medical technology had no experience in getting learning about death. 58.7% were afraid of death 'because they would be sad to be separated from things they loved,' 2. The general degree of death anxiety measured in the four-point scale was 2.54(.33). 3. As for differences in death anxiety among students majoring in emergency medical technology by grades, seniors(2.64) showed a lower score for anxiety than juniors(2.74) in terms of 'anxiety about others' death.' 4. As for differences in death anxiety among students majoring in emergency medical technology by gender, female students(2.64) showed a higher degree of death anxiety than males students(2.44), Conclusion : It is necessary to develop education and programs associated with death anxiety in order to reduce fear and anxiety about death and accept one's own death in a positive way through patients in imminent death.

응급구조(학)과 교육과정의 표준화에 대한 연구 (Standardization of a curriculum for paramedic students in South Korea)

  • Purpose: This study describes current curricula for paramedic students in South Korea and proposes a standardization of the curriculum. Methods: Data were collected from 38 colleges and universities from March 1 to 31, 2016. Descriptive statistics were calculated using SPSS 23.0. Results: The proposed standard curriculum was below. Requisite liberal arts consisted of 2 subjects and 6 credits including biomedical ethics, communications and human relationships. Common major subjects were composed of 6 areas, 22 subjects, and 78 credits. The areas of basic medicine consisted of 6 subjects and 16 credits including medical terminology. Introduction to paramedicine consisted of 3 subjects and 7 credits. Emergency patient management consisted of 2 subjects and 9 credits. Particulars to paramedic care consisted of 8 subjects and 31 credits. The law area consisted of 1 subject and 3 credits. Other major areas consisted of 2 subjects and 12 credits including integrated simulation and physician assistance. Common field practice area consisted of 3 to 4 subjects and 9 to 12 credits. Conclusion: It is important to establish and adapt a standardized curriculum for paramedic students in order to ensure competence and to provide high quality emergency medical services.

4차 산업혁명 시대 응급구조(학)과 융복합 교과목 개발을 위한 연구 (Study on the development of convergence subjects for departments of emergency medical technology in preparation for the fourth industry revolution)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the development and improvement direction of university education according to job type and investigate the types of knowledge required for employment after graduation for departments of emergency medical technology in preparation for the era of the fourth industrial revolution in a converged society. Methods: From June 3 to June 10, 2019, data were collected through structured questionnaires from 90 paramedics working in firefighting, hospitals, different industries, and emergency patient transportation. Data were analyzed using the software SPSS version 18.0. Results: For employment after graduation in departments of emergency medical technology, character and sincerity education should be strengthened. To prepare for the fourth industrial revolution, educational innovations such as improving the field practice system and devising a convergence curriculum are needed. Preparation for the fourth industrial revolution should be accomplished through the development of convergence subjects such as forensic science, information and communications technology, and safety engineering. Ninety percent of the study respondents indicated their need for convergence subjects. Conclusion: The demands of future society should be responded to flexibly by holding and conducting convergence subjects. Furthermore, preparations should be made in anticipation of a shortage of 120,000 college freshmen for the 2024-2025 school year by increasing the competitiveness of departments of emergency medical technology.

응급구조(학)과 학생의 응급구조사 직업이미지에 미치는 영향 요인 (Factors influencing the image about emergency medical technology jobs in paramedic students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the image about emergency medical technology (EMT) jobs and to identify factors influencing the image of EMT jobs among students of this department. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was administered to 532 paramedic students in the cities of D, G, and J between May 28 and June 19, 2013. Data were analyzed by using the SPSS version 21.0 program. Results: The image about EMT jobs was positively related to self-esteem. However, the image about EMT jobs was negatively related to grade and hospital practice experience. In the multiple regression analysis, the adjusted $R^2$ value was .220 (p < .001). Conclusion: The importance of enhancing the self-esteem of paramedic students should be emphasized. Further research on the image about EMT jobs in the hospital practice setting is needed.

국내 3년제 응급구조과의 교양교육과정 분석 (Liberal arts curricula for the 3-year emergency medical technology course: A comparative study)

  • Purpose: This study aims to provide suggestions for improving the liberal arts curriculum for the 3-year emergency medical technology course by conducting a comparative research on the liberal arts curricula across 10 colleges. Methods: Various aspects of liberal arts subjects, such as basic directions set out by the curriculum, credit scores, and distribution, were studied. Results: Of the 10 colleges, 9 did not stated purpose of liberal arts education. All 10 offered courses including foreign language, computer, and self-management, however each subjects did not have reflections of course visions. Findings revealed the credit score ratio of liberal arts subjects to be relatively lower than the major subjects. Students had limited opportunity to choose liberal arts subjects, with only a small proportion of the course available for elective subjects. Most liberal arts subjects were completed in the first year. Subjects' experience was not expanded and deepened gradually. Subject choices often overlapped, with limited variety of available subjects. Conclusion: For competent emergency medical technicians, the 3-year emergency medical technology course should improve the quality of its liberal arts offerings. The study of liberal arts provides the opportunity to develop broad perspectives and mature attitudes.

국제질병분류기준을 이용한 응급의료 전화상담 내용 분석 (An evaluation study of 1339 emergency medical dispatch based on ICD-9)

  • Purpose : To evaluate the emergency medical protocols and assessments through the case reports. Method : We studied retrospectively investigates the emergency calls through the 1339 emergency patients information center in 1997. Results : The emergency calls show an order : abdominal pain(13.5%), unconsciousness(12.0%), traffic accidents(7.4%), bleeding(6.6%), respiration difficulty(5.9%) by emergency medical protocols, and injury and poisoning(22.3%), symptom (51.6%), others (26.1%). Conclusion : The results suggest that a specific training program for emergency medical dispatchers should be established, and emergency medical dispatcher managers must review emergency medical dispatching cases on the basis of emergency medical protocols every year. Emergency medical services, furthermore, will continue to raise the standard for emergency medical dispatching.

1997년부터 2005년까지 한국응급구조학회논문지에 게재된 논문 분석 (An Analysis of Papers published in the Journal of Korean Society of Emergency Medical Technology from 1997 to 2005)

  • Purpose: It was to induce higher-level papers which can make Korea's Emergency Medical Service System better. Methods: This study was conducted by analysing of 250 papers published in the Journal of Korean Society of Emergency Medical Technology from 1997 to 2005. Results: Most of papers which dealt with non-clinic(94.4%), non-job description(76.8%), non-scope of practice(94.4%), other than AHA's recommendations such as response intervals and survival rates from cardiac arrest(90.4%) were written by professors(61.6%) and 1-2 authors(72.8%). Conclusion: It brought up some needs of enlargement of new members.

전문대학 응급구조과의 4년제 개편 타당성 조사 연구 (Validity of redeveloping the paramedic education system from 3-years to 4-years)

  • Purpose: The study was to investigate the feasibility about reorganized the paramedic college into a four-year education system. Methods: Through literature review and analysis, a self-reported questionnaire was created and filled out by the professors of paramedic and analyzed. Results: An analysis of the curriculum indicated that, as paramedic schools involve practice-oriented education, reorganization of the college system is necessary to raise the quality of the actual training. The survey results found that most participants agreed with the need to reorganize the school system. Conclusion: Paramedics have a responsibility regarding the life of the nation. In order to be satisfied with its status as a national job that focuses on humanity and justice, increasing the years needed before graduation is necessary.
