8K Programmable Multimedia Platform based on SRP (SRP 를 기반으로 하는 8K 프로그래머블 멀티미디어 플랫폼)

  • In this paper, we propose a world's first programmable video processing platform for video quality enhancement of 8K ($7680{\times}4320$) UHD (Ultra High Definition) TV at 60 frames per second. To support huge computation and memory bandwidth of video quality enhancement for 8K resolution, the proposed platform has unique features like symmetric multi-cluster architecture for data partitioning, ring data-path between clusters to support data pipelining, on-the-fly processing architecture to reduce DDR bandwidth, flexible hardware to accelerating common kernel in video enhancement algorithms. In addition to those features, general programmability of SRP (Samsung reconfigurable processor) as main core of the proposed platform makes it possible to upgrade continuously video enhancement algorithm even after the platform is fixed. This ability is very important because algorithms for 8K DTV is under development. The proposed sub-system has been embedded into SoC (System on Chip) and new 8K UHD TV using the programmable SoC is expected at CES2015 for the first time in the world.

Lizeth: Agent Mediated E-Commerce in a Virtual Environment

  • The explosion of the Internet, and most recently e-commerce, has caused great interest in agent technologies. The development of virtual environments has also increased in the last few years. A growing number of real-time applications use graphics with photorealistic quality, especially in the field of training, but also in the areas of design and ergonomic research. We describe an attempt to develop a framework that provides customers with multimedia information and interactive experiences with a virtual shopping environment. The application presented consists on a virtual visit to a music -store where the user is guided by an intelligent agent named Lizeth which responds in real-time to user's requests with precise information about music, artist's biographies, prices and related products to help the user to make decisions. The potential of UML and the Java programming language is discussed to show their application in the field of intelligent agents as mediators on shopping processes. We conclude that the proposed framework leads to the creation of application with a potentially significant impact in the development of e-commerce systems embedded in virtual environments.

  • Requirement of effective image handling methods such as image retrieval has been increasing with the rising production and consumption of multimedia data. In this paper, a method of constructing more effective descriptor is proposed for robust keypoint based image retrieval. The proposed method uses information embedded in the first order and second order derivative images, in addition to the scale space image, for the descriptor construction. The performance of multi-image descriptor is evaluated in terms of the similarities in keypoints with a public domain image database that contains various image transformations. The proposed descriptor shows significant improvement in keypoint matching with minor increase of the length.

Transmission of Image Embedded with Robust Watermark through OFDM/16QAM System (OFDM/16QAM 시스템에서 강건한 워터마크가 삽입된 영상의 전송)

  • In this paper, we have studied the reliable scheme for transmission of digital watermarking-inserted image data through wireless channel. Multimedia data and watermarking data are degraded because of the high BER (Bit Error Rate) and the effect of fading in wireless channel. We adapt the error correction scheme for mitigating the degradation in watermarking data. We have evaluated the error performance of watermarking data modulated by OFDM/16QAM and sent through Rician fading channel. The simulation results show that when error correcting scheme is used the watermarking data can be detected without severe error even though watermarking-inserted image data is suffered from severe damage.

  • Computer games could be regarded as simulation of the real world. Control problems of software agents have long been studied in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), resulting in giving a birth to the behavior-based approach. three main approaches might be categorized out of the history of AI study. First, Cognitivists propose that intelligence could be represented and manipulated in terms of symbols. Second, Connectionists claim that symbols could not be isolated but they are embedded in the body structure. Third, the behavior-based approach is an approach to AI which suggests that intelligence is dynamic property that exists nowhere but emerges in the relationship of an agent and the world including observers while the agent performs behavior. This paper explains and compares the three approaches to AI, then discusses the plausibility of the behavior-based approach and problems. Finally, this paper proposes application of behavior-based approach to computer games in terms of agent control.

  • For that reason, more and more growing of the internet speed, many kind of the multimedia as if the voice, a letter, a photograph, a moving picture are appearance and integration of the internet as if the wireless internet, the CATV, a satellite is forming. Today, many changes in the communication environment are occurrence. therefore a demands of the user keep up increase. so, in this paper, we developed the SOHO IP-PBX embedded which can automatically exchange the call. the developed IP-PBX have many functions as if the exchange call function, the gateway function, the PSTN backup function, the FAX function, the VPN function, etc. and verified it by an experiment on the rules in KT.

  • Digital image watermarking scheme using adaptive block division is proposed. To increase the perceptual invisibility, the image is divided into blocks by local properties and the human visual system (HVS), then the significant blocks are selected in the divided blocks. The significant coefficient is determined by Weber's law in these blocks. To increase the robustness, low frequency domains of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) and the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) are used. The watermark is embedded into the selected significant blocks of the DCT's and DWT's low frequency domains with adaptive watermark strengths. The watermark strength is determined by the variance and the local properties of the significant block. The experimental results prove that the proposed scheme has a good robustness against several image processing operations (e.g. median filtering, cropping, scaling, JPEG, JPEG2000, etc.) without significant degradation of the watermarked image.

  • The fast processing ability of an RTOS (Real Time Operating System) is one of important factors in determining the performance of embedded systems. With the development of multimedia and telecommunication technology, the higher level of performance environments is required. Moreover there is some difficulty in improving the performance of an RTOS which is based on a microprocessor. In this paper, we propose a hardware architecture to implement some functions of uC/OS-II as a target RTOS for the purpose of its performance improvement. The proposed architecture for uC/OS-II is implemented and analyzed with the performance comparison.

  • This paper studies network recovery method using logical multiple ring architecture embedded in WDM optical Internet environment. The multiple ring-based recovery method provides fast and simple network restoration operation, and performs local recovery that is detouring the failed link. The multiple ring architecture can provide higher resource efficiency by sharing the backup routes and reducing the number of spare wavelengths. This paper calculates the required spare capacity ratio using Cut-Sets in the given network topology and performs simulation for comparative analysis.

  • In this paper, to solve the imbalance between the skill factors demanded by the industry and the curriculum of the universities, demand-oriented educational contents are developed in the computer-software field. In the field, five tracks are selected: Software Development, System Integration, Embedded System Software, Multimedia and Game Software, and Business Information Technology. In each track, a curriculum with four demand-oriented courses is developed to reflect the demands of the IT industry. Detailed syllabuses and course materials are developed as well. Applying these artifacts, lectures have been performed at universities since 2004.
