Failure Analysis of Aircraft Software Test Cases from a Perspective of Requirements Traceability (요구사항 추적성 관점에서 항공기 탑재 소프트웨어 시험 사례 실패 분석)

  • As the proportion and complexity of software embedded in aircraft increase, risk factors such as mission failure, function failure and performance failure due to software errors also increase. In the mission-critical software systems such as aircraft software, managing requirement traceability is essential to maintain the software systems with minimal period and cost. However, the development company is not accurately complying with the guideline for managing requirement traceability due to various reasons such as development cost and schedule. Therefore, it is not easy to systematically establish and maintain requirement traceability. In the paper, we analyze actual test cases of aviation software systems from the viewpoint of requirements traceability in order to learn if there are failure cases of test cases due to the absence of systematic traceability management activities. We also check the risks associated with the failure cases according to the type and severity of the cases. As a result of analyzing a total of 7 aircraft-mounted software, failure cases could be divided into three types: omission of requirements, lack of connection between requirements and test procedures, and omission of test procedures. There were a total of 18 failure cases, 6 for each type. The numbers of high, middle and low risks were 1, 13 and 4, respectively, where the number of middle risks is largest.

An Operating Software Development of A Prototype Coronagraph for The Total Solar Eclipse in 2017

  • We develop a coronagraph to measure the coronal electron density, temperature, and speed by observing the linearly polarized brightness of solar corona with 4 different wavelengths. Through the total solar eclipse on 21 August 2017, we test an operating software of a prototype coronagraph working with two sub-systems of two motorized filter wheels and a CCD camera that are controlled by a portable embedded computer. A Core Flight System (CFS) is a reusable software framework and set of reusable software applications which take advantage of a rich heritage of successful space mission of NASA. We use the CFS software framework to develop the operating software that can control the two sub-systems asynchronously in an observation scenario and communicate with a remote computer about commands, housekeeping data through Ethernet. The software works successfully and obtains about 160 images of 12 filter sets (4 bandpass filters and 3 polarization angles) during the total phase of the total solar eclipse. For the future, we can improve the software reliability by testing the software with a sufficient number of test cases using a testing framework COSMOS. The software will be integrated into the coronagraph for balloon-borne experiments in 2019.

Fault Injection Based Indirect Interaction Testing Approach for Embedded System (임베디드 시스템의 결함 주입 기반 간접 상호작용 테스팅 기법)

  • In an embedded system, modules exchange data by interacting among themselves. Exchanging erroneous resource data among modules may lead to execution errors. The interacting resources produce dependencies between the two modules where any change of the resources by one module affects the functionality of another module. Several investigations of the embedded systems show that interaction faults between the modules are one of the major cause of critical software failure. Therefore, interaction testing is an essential phase for reducing the interaction faults and minimizing the risk. The direct and indirect interactions between the modules generate interaction faults. The direct interaction is the explicit call relation between the modules, and the indirect interaction is the remaining relation that is made underneath the interface that possesses data dependence relationship with resources. In this paper, we investigate the errors that are based on the indirect interaction between modules and introduce a new test criterion for identifying the errors that are undetectable by existing approaches at the integration level. We propose a novel approach for generating the interaction model using the indirect interaction pattern and design test criteria that are based on different interaction errors to generate test cases. Finally, we use the fault injection technique to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of our approach.

  • Recent advances in computer technology have brought more dependency on software to railway signalling system. While much efforts have been reported to evaluate embedded software safety for railway signalling systems, not so much systematic approaches to evaluate software safety testing. In this paper, we propose a adaption of automatic software testing tool in terms of the design & coding standard for railway signalling system. The test items for the design & coding standard suggested in this study related international standards and MISRA-C. It is anticipated that it will be greatly helpful for the evaluation on the software for railway signalling system.

Implementation and Performance Evaluation of Preempt-RT Based Multi-core Motion Controller for Industrial Robot (산업용 로봇 제어를 위한 Preempt-RT 기반 멀티코어 모션 제어기의 구현 및 성능 평가)

  • Recently, with the ever-increasing complexity of industrial robot systems, it has been greatly attention to adopt a multi-core based motion controller with high cost-performance ratio. In this paper, we propose a software architecture that aims to utilize the computing power of multi-core processors. The key concept of our architecture is to use shared memory for the interplay between threads running on separate processor cores. And then, we have integrated our proposed architecture with an industrial standard compliant IDE for automatic code generation of motion runtime. For the performance evaluation, we constructed a test-bed consisting of a motion controller with Preempt-RT Linux based dual-core industrial PC and a 3-axis industrial robot platform. The experimental results show that the actuation time difference between axes is 10 ns in average and bounded up to 689 ns under $1000{\mu}s$ control period, which can come up with real-time performance for industrial robot.

An Experimental Study on the Pull-Out Behaviors of Headed GFRP Rebar in Mortar (정착판 GFRP 근(Rebar)의 모르타르 인발거동에 관한 시험연구)

  • This paper presents the pull-out behaviors of headed glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebar embedded in mortar under tension loading. Five specimens with headed GFRP rebars that were anchored in the center of mortar bases were constructed and the pull-out test was conducted. To verify the test results, the finite element analysis was conducted and the results were compared with the FE analysis using ANSYS software package. Based on the test results it was indicated that the CCD(concrete capacity design) failure theory should be adopted and not to use the 45o cone failure theory as the breakout capacity in the headed GFRP rebar embedded in mortar.

  • 최근 개발되는 임베디드 시스템의 경우 하드웨어와 소프트웨어의 구조가 매우 복잡해짐에 따라, 시스템에 탑재되는 소프트웨어의 신뢰성 확보를 위한 테스트 절차가 요구되고 있다. 특히 시스템에 탑재되는 소프트웨어는 다중 함수에 의해 의사결정이 되면서. 시스템 디자인 단계에서 요구되는 스펙(Specification)을 만족하지 못하는 경우가 빈번하게 발생한다 본 논문에서는 임베디드 소프트웨어의 자동화된 테스트를 위해 요구되는 검증 모듈을 디자인하고 구현하였다 검증 모듈은 요구사항 기반으로 설계되었으며, 각각의 요구사항을 만족하는 검증 모듈을 구현하여 실제 상용화 제품에 대한 테스트를 진행하였다.

  • In this paper, A target architecture and interface synthesizer are proposed for processor-embedded codesign. The target architecture has the form of ARM processor based on AMBA. The interface synthesizer automatically generates an interface circuit for the communication between HW and SW. A memory map is used as the communication channel and an interrupt-based interface is applied for synchronized communication between HW and SW modules. In order to verify the function and performance of proposed target architecture and the interface synthesizer, practical test example is applied. Experimental results show the proposed interface synthesizer functioned correctly in the HW/SW codesign environment.

  • 모바일 디바이스들의 사용 보편화와 대용량화로 인해 모바일 환경에 적합한 데이터베이스 엔진들이 최근 다양한 목적으로 모바일 기기에 많이 도입되고 있다. 이 엔진들은 대부분 오픈소스 프로그램들이며 범용 데이터베이스에 비해 가볍고 속도가 빠른 장점을 지녀 향후 발전 가능성이 커보인다. 이 논문에서는 안드로이드 등의 모바일 환경에서 대표적으로 활용되고 있는 SQLite 데이터베이스와 Realm 데이터베이스를 선정하여 검색 성능 및 특성을 파악하고 비교하기 위한 성능 실험을 설계한다.

  • 최근 소프트웨어 품질 보증 (SQA)의 중요성이 강조되면서, 그에 따른 방법론들에 관한 새로운 이론들이나 사례 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 삼성전자에서 개발된 Samsung Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)의 SQA를 통해서 다음과 같은 새로운 사실을 발견할 수 있었다. Automated 테스트는 Manual 테스트와 비교해서 3차 테스트부터 이미 SQA의 Man/Month (MM)측면에서 효율성을 가지며 또한 Automated 테스트에 사용한 Tool은 재사용성의 이점을 가진다. 본 논문에서는 Manual 테스트와 Automated 테스트를 적용한 두 사례분석을 통하여 Automated 테스트가 가지는 이점을 제안한다.
