Embedded Distributivity

  • Distributivity has been one of the central topics in formal semantics. However, no due attention has been paid to embedded distributivity that very frequently occurs in natural languages. In this paper, I propose a formal analysis for embedded distributivity. In analyzing embedded distributivity, I employ no complicated mechanisms but pluralization. Since distributivity is reduced to plurality as Landman (2000) argues, employing plural formation is not an ad hoc approach to embedded distributivity. That is, the plural variable inserted in the process of deriving embedded distributivity is motivated in a principled manner since the pluralization occurs inside a pluralization operator. Moreover, I point out that the plural variable made available is not restricted to entities.

  • A frame buffer device is an abstraction for the graphic hardware. It allows application software to access the graphic hardware through a well-defined interface, so that the software doesn’t need to know anything about the low-level interface stuff. We develop a frame buffer driver for VIA’s CLE266 graphic system based on ‘Qplus’, an embedded linux operating system developed by ETRI. Then, it will be seen that our frame buffer system is applied to embedded solutions such as movie player and X server successfully.

  • In recent years, embedded systems have become so complex and the development time to market is required to be shorter than before. As embedded systems include more functions for new services, embedded software gradually grow in size, and development costs and time are increasing. In order to overcome this serious matter, we need a customized design and test technique for embedded software. In this paper, we present a software architecture style for embedded software. It facilitates the composition of reusable functions and helps developers to reduce development time. Because the costs associated with revealing errors of embedded software in applications are rising. we propose a test method and tools for target environments.

  • Recently, most of the embedded system have the function of multimedia information processing and network connecting. This make the overall system more complicated and need a new approach. Moreover the embedded system must be real-time system, which are different with Linux is constructed and the kernel is redesigned on the strong-arm board in order to make the real-time embedded web-server system.

  • This paper describes an experiment on the embedded network agent. The embedded network agent is the device that will enable other devices to communicate over the Internet. Many devices have no way to communicate with other devices over the Internet The embedded network agent extends the stand-alone devices that have no TCP/IP protocol suite to the Internet, the global networks, without any hardware and software. To support the better efficiency, this parer proffers new TCP state diagram of the embedded network agent. This TCP state on the embedded network agent considers the status of the common devices behind the embedded network agent. Because of this consideration, the embedded network agent tenders an improved result to user.

  • A large part of the embedded system, compared with the PC, have low performance CPU and small memory. So the embedded operating system fits the condition of that hardware system. A Single Address Space (SAS) OS has the operating system and all applications in the single address space. The SAS architecture enhances sharing and co-operation, because addresses have a unique interpretation. Thus, pointer-based date structures can be directly communicated and shared between programs at any time, and can be stored directly on storage. The key point of the SAS OS on the embedded system is the low overhead inter-action between programs in process and usage. So SAS OS can be ported on the low performance CPU. In this paper, we design the SAS OS (named emNOS, Embedded Network Operating System) on the ARMTTDMI processor. Finally we show the benefits of the SAS OS on the embedded system.

  • This paper presents the design and implementation of embedded systems and autonomous path generation for autonomous speed sprayer. Autonomous Orchard Systems can be divided into embedded controller and path generation module. Embedded controller receives analog sensor data, on/off switch data and control linear actuator, break, clutch and steering module. In path generation part, we get 3D cloud point using Velodyne VLP16 LIDAR sensor and process the point cloud to generate maps, do localization, generate driving path. Then, it finally generates velocity and rotation angle in real time, and sends the data to embedded controller. Embedded controller controls steering wheel based on the received data. The developed autonomous speed sprayer is verified in test-bed with apple tree-shaped artworks.

A Study on the Embedded Capacitor for PCB (PCB용 임베디드 캐패시터에 관한 연구)

  • Recently embedded passive technology which fabricate passive elements such as resistors and capacitors at the inner layer of PCB(Printed Circuit Board) is used to make high performance IT products. However, embedded capacitor has limit in full range circuit applications because of the low capacitance density. In this paper, a new embedded capacitor which has wrinkled electrodes and dielectric layer was proposed to overcome the limits. FEM(Finite Elements Method) technique was used to evaluate capacitance density of the wrinkled type embedded capacitor. Capacitance density of the wrinkled type embedded capacitor is larger than that of conventional planar type embedded capacitor by about 25.6%$\sim$39.6%. In case of thin film type embedded capacitor, proposed wrinkled structure has more enhanced effect on the capacitance density.

  • The embedded systems commonly equip a file system as default to keep data. This file system is mostly constructed with flash memory as the price get lower and the performance get higher. Types of the file system implemented on the flash memory are various according to types of embedded operating systems. By the way, as the embedded systems increasingly depend on the file system, a selection of the file system type of the embedded systems influences the performance of the entire system. This thesis discusses the factors to influence the performance of entire system in construction of file system and selection of the types, and discusses the research results.

  • Currently, embedded systems designed for specific applications are used extensively in consumer electronics, smart phones, autonomous vehicles, robots, and plant control, etc. In addition, the importance of DRAM, which has a great influence on the performance of an embedded processor constituting an embedded system, has been increasing day by day, and research on DRAM has been actively conducted in industry and academia. Therefore, it is important to have a more accurate DRAM model in order to obtain reliable results when evaluating the performance of an embedded processor through simulation. In this paper, we developed an embedded processor simulator capable of interworking with a DRAM simulator. We also analyzed the influence of the DRAM model, which operates correctly on a cycle-by-cycle basis, on the performance of the embedded processor by using the MiBench embedded benchmark.
