  • As it is not long since the gifted education was implemented in elementary school, it is necessary to accumulate the practical studies on the mathematically gifted education. This paper focused on enhancing creativity by providing the various and divergent thinking activities for mathematically gifted students. For this purpose, I prepared two mathematics problems, and , and let the mathematically gifted 5th grade students solve them. After that, I investigated to analyse their reactions in detail and tried to find the methods for assessing their divergent products. Finally, I found that they could pose various and meaningful calculating equations and also identify the various relations between two numbers. I expect that accumulating these kinds of practical studies will contribute to the developments of gifted education, in particular, instructions, assessments, and curriculum developments for the mathematically gifted students in elementary schools.

  • This study set out to analyze and compare gifted elementary students and non-gifted students in emotional intelligence and creative nature. To understand the characteristics of the former, and provide assistance for career education for both groups. For this purpose, the three following research questions were set: First, what kind of difference is there in emotional intelligence between gifted elementary students and non-gifted students? Second, what kind of difference is there in creative nature between gifted elementary students and non-gifted students? Third, what is the connection between emotional intelligence and creative nature in gifted elementary students and non-gifted students? For this study, 102 students from the gifted class and 132 students from non-gifted classes were selected. In total 234 questionnaires were distributed, and the results were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows. First, as a result of the independent sample T-test, there were noticeable differences in giftedness. Gifted students scored significantly higher than non-gifted students in creative nature. Second, as a result of the independent sample T-test, there were noticeable differences in the creative nature of gifted and non-gifted students. Gifted students scored significantly higher than non-gifted students in creative nature. Third, by analyzing the results found for emotional intelligence and creative nature with Pearson's product-moment correlation, there was a positive correlation between both emotional intelligence and creative nature in both groups of results.

  • This study aims to analyze elementary gifted students' inquiries on combinatoric tasks. In particular, we designed circular permutation tasks and analyzed students' inquiries on these tasks. We especially analyzed students' expressions, counting processes, and their construction of set of outcomes. The findings showed that the students utilized analogy to resolve given tasks, and they had difficulties in categorizing and re-categorizing possible outcomes of given tasks. Their improper use of analogy also caused difficulties in resolving circular permutation tasks.

  • The purpose of this research is to study the perception of mathematical creativity through gifted elementary mathematics students. The analysis on perception for mathematical creativity was done by testing 200 elementary school students in grades 4, 5, and 6 who are receiving gifted education in elementary mathematics gifted class operated by ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ City Dept of Education through the questionnaire that was developed based on Rhodes' 4P theory. This survey asked them to name what they think is the most creative from educational programs they have as far received. Then we analyzed the reason for the students' choice of the creativity program and interviewed the teachers who had conducted chosen program. As a result of analyzing the data, these students chose as mathematical creativity primarily creative problem solving, task commitment, and interest in mathematics in such order. This result is explained through analyzing the questionnaire that was based on Rhodes' 4P theory on areas of process, product and press. The perception of mathematical creativity by the gifted mathematical students not only helps to clarify the concept of mathematical creativity but also has implication for future development for gifted education program.

  • This study intends to develop and apply elementary mathematics program for gifted students based on a 'constant width shape' in order to keep pace with the STEAM education which is becoming the main issue and therefore, it set up research subject as follows; To introduce constant width shapes through 'a circle' which is a constant width shape under present education process and based on this, to search a theory about constant width shapes and reuleaux triangles. To arrange an elementary mathematics program for gifted students according to the part 3 enrichment study model of Renzulli. To revise supplement the program on the basis of field application result twice and then to materialize the program. It is expected that the developed program and study data will suggest mathematical ideas and direction of materials development in education sites of elementary mathematics program for gifted students.

  • This study focused on the selection and application of mathematical problems to provide mathematically challenging tasks for the gifted elementary students. For the selection, a mathematical problem from <算術管見> of Joseon dynasty, '圓容三方互求', was selected, considering the participants' experiences of problem solving and the variety of approaches to the problem. For the application, teaching strategies such as individual problem solving and sharing of the solving methods were used. The problem was provided for 13 mathematically gifted elementary students. They not only solved it individually but also shared their approaches by presentations. Their solving and sharing processes were observed and their results were analyzed. Based on this, some didactical considerations were suggested.

  • This study investigated the analysis of examples that gifted students' realizing the learning objectives through teaching method of the teacher's questions and advice. 6 gifted students were selected to be examined with 'magic square' in class. The teacher emphasized the learning objectives without directly proposing. Whereas, the teacher proposed the learning objectives by questioning and giving advice to students. After the class, the 6 gifted students were surveyed to answer about realizing the learning objectives of mathematics (about contents, process, and attitude in mathematics learning objectives). Mathematical gifted students thought about the process that consists of deductive thinking, analogic thinking, extensive thinking, creative thinking, and critical thinking. But, they underestimated the deductive thinking. So the teacher should develop the questions and advice to teach the mathematical gifted students according to the level of them. The high level of mathematical gifted students were able to realize the value and the importance of the mathematical attitude, while the low level of mathematical gifted students were able to realize them little. For this reason, the teacher should apprehend the level of the students, and propose materials and contents of the learning. The teacher should also make the gifted students realize value, will, and personality of mathematics by questions and advice. Lastly, like it is needed in general classes, there should be a constant researches and improvements about questions of the teacher that are appropriate to each student's learning abilities and cognition ability.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the strength and weakness of intelligences appeared by the profile of multiple intelligences of the gifted children in elementary mathematics. The subjects of this study were 79 students from D-Education Center for Gifted Children. Their multiple intelligences were measured by a self-scaling test of Korean-Multiple Intelligence Development Assessment Scale, at the beginning of September in 2003. The conclusions of this study are as follows: First the strengths of multiple intelligences of the gifted children in mathematics are intrapersonal intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence and interpersonal intelligence. And the weakness of multiple intelligences of the gifted in elementary mathematics is bodily-kinesthetic intelligence. Second, formal educational curriculum of the gifted in elementary mathematics is required which can stimulate all kinds of intelligences.

  • The purpose of this study at gifted students' solving ability of the given study task by using all knowledge and tools which encompass mathematical contents and curriculums, and developing the teaching learning materials of gifted students in accordance with their level which tan enhance their mathematical thinking ability and develop creative idea. With these considerations in mind, this paper sought for the standard and procedures of teaching learning materials development according to the levels for the education of the mathematically gifted students. presented the procedure model of material development, produced teaching learning methods according to levels in the task of figurate number, and developed prototypes and examples of teaching learning materials for the mathematically gifted students. Based on the prototype of teaching learning materials for the gifted students in mathematics in accordance with their level, this research developed the materials for students and materials for teachers, and performed the modification and complement of material through the field application and verification. It confirmed various solving processes and mathematical thinking levels by analyzing the figurate number tasks. This result will contribute to solving the study task by using all knowledge and tools of mathematical contents and curriculums that encompass various mathematically gifted students, and provide the direction of the learning contents and teaching learning materials which can promote the development of mathematically gifted students.
