An analytical method for particulate carbon and other elements by using elemental analyzer was investigated. Carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen was determined as CO$_{2}$, H$_{2}$, and N$_{2}$, respectively. Organic was determined after scparation from elemental carbon(Cae) by volatilization and thermal decomposition in a heated helium flow. With organic materials examined in this reprot, more than 90% of carbon was detected as above 600$^{\circ}$C. But it is considered that a few percents of some compounds were charred above 550$^{\circ}$C. A small amount of Cae was oxidized in the inert atmosphere above 850$^{\circ}$C, but the reason was not explained clearly. Based on the thermal chracteristics of Cao it was found that the optimum temperature of heating in the helium flow of an elemental analyzer for Cao analysis is 630$^{\circ}$C. Carbon in a sample after removing Cao was assumed as Cae and the gramatom ratio of hydrogen to carbon in the sample was 0.4 and less. Rescovery of nitrogen derived from some ammonium salts and nitrates was 100% by two-step measurement with elemental analyzer. By the analytical method investigated in this report, carbon and other elements in suspended particulates(S.P) collected at an urban area in Seoul were measured. There was a good correlation between total nitrogen in SP measured by elemental analyzer and nitrogen estimated form ammonium ions and nitrate ions in SP. The nitrogen from these ions accounts for 80% of the total nitrogen. It is further suggested that the residue(20%) of the total nitrogen is attributed to the other nitrogeneous compounds.
In order to study of characteristics of collected filter as analysis of carbon in airborne particulate matters by Elemental Analyzer, quartz fiber filter and glass fiber filter were used. The results are followed as; There was no difference of confidence in collection rate of airborne particulate matters between quartz fiber filter and glass fiber filter. Airborne particulate matters were collected on both filters evenly and the use of quartz fiber filter is better than glass fiber filter as analysis of carbon by thermal method.
A thermal-optical transmittance carbon analyzer has been developed to determine particulate organic (OC) and elemental (EC) carbon. Several analysis factors affecting the sensitivity of OC and EC determination were investigated for the carbon analyzer. Although total carbon (TC) is usually consistent in the determination, OC and EC split is sensitive to adopted analysis protocol. In this study the maximum temperature in oxygen-free He in the analysis was examined as a main cause of the uncertainty. Prior to the sensitivity analysis consistency in OC-EC determination of the carbon analyzer and the uniformity of carbonaceous aerosol loading on a sampled filter were checked to be in acceptable range. EC/TC ratios were slightly decreased with increasing the maximum temperature between $550-800^{\circ}C$. For the increase of maximum temperature from $500^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$, the EC/TC ratio was lowered by 4.65-5.61% for TC loading of 13-44 ${\mu}g/cm^2$ with more decrease at higher loading. OC and EC determination was not influenced by trace amount of oxygen in pure He (>99.999%), which is typically used in OC and EC analysis. The facing of sample loaded surface to incident laser beam showed negligible influence in the OC-EC split, but it caused elevated PC fraction in OC for forward facing relative to backward facing.
An antioxidant compound was obtained from the water extract of the stem bark from Rhus verniciflua, which has been used in traditional folk remedies. The compound was purified by HPLC, using DEAE, CN and ODS columns. The chemical structure of the compound was identified as gallic acid (3,4,5-hydroxylbenzoic acid) by spectral data including UV, IR, EI (HR)-MS, $^1$H-NMR, $\^$13/C-NMR and elemental analyzer. This compound was found show cytotoxicity against HeLa cell ( IC$\_$50/ : 8.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$).

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the exposures of cashiers who work at expressway tollbooths. Methods: We measured temperature(temp.), relative humidity(RH), and contaminants with direct reading instruments at ten expressway toll gate in September 2015. Elemental carbon was collected on the quartz filters and analyzed with an OCEC analyzer. Results: The average levels for temp., RH, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, dust(PM10), and black carbon were respectively 24.6~27.8℃, 32.3~65.3%, 0.5~1.2 ppm, 456~559 ppm, 12~111 ㎍/㎥, and 3.1~10.1 ㎍/㎥ at each tollbooth. The concentrations of elemental carbon within the tollbooth(1.8~7.2 ㎍/㎥) were lower than outdoors(2.5~10.0 ㎍/㎥), but exhibited a high correlation(r2=0.855). The exposure levels for carbon monoxide, black carbon, and elemental carbon in the tollbooths were significantly higher than the offices. The concentrations of black carbon and elemental carbon showed a high correlation(r2=0.756). Conclusions: The levels of contaminants were below the occupational exposure limits in the expressway tollbooth. There were ventilation and air conditioning systems in the booths, but it is necessary to maintain and use the systems properly.

For the purpose of fabricating of L-B Films, (N-alkyl pyridinium)-TCNQ(1:1) complex is synthesized. This complex is verified by U.V, I.R and elemental analyzer.
To synthesize Fe/Ni nanocatalysts loaded on carbon black, Iron(II) acetylacetonate and nickel (II) acetylacetonate and were reduced to Fe and Ni metallic nanoparticles by a spontaneous reduction reaction. The distribution of the Fe and Ni nanoparticles was observed by transmission electron microscopy, and the loading weight of Fe/Ni nanocatalysts on the carbon black was measured by thermogravimetric analyzer. The elemental ratio of Fe and Ni was estimated by energy dispersive x-ray analyzer. It was found that the loading weight of Fe/Ni nanoparticles was 6.23 wt%, and the elemental ratio of Fe and Ni was 0.53:0.40. Specific surface area was measured by BET analysis instrument and I-V characteristics were estimated.
Pt-Ni nanocatalysts were loaded on carbon black by spontaneous reduction reaction of platinum (II) acetylacetonate and nickel (II) acetylacetonate, and they were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), energy dispersive x-ray analyzer (EDS), BET surface area and fuel cell test station. The distribution of the Pt and Ni nanoparticles was observed by TEM, and the loading weight of Pt-Ni nanocatalysts on the carbon black was measured by TGA. The elemental ratio of Pt and Ni was estimated by EDS. It was found that the loading weight of Pt-Ni nanoparticles was 5.54 wt%, and the elemental ratio of Pt and Ni was 0.48:0.35. Specific surface area was measured by BET analysis instrument and I-V characteristics were estimated.
Pt-Fe/carbon black nanocatalysts were prepared by spontaneous reduction reaction of Platinum(II) acetylacetonate and Iron(II) acetylacetonate in a nucleophilic solvent and they were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDS), thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) surface area analysis and anion exchange membrane (AEM) water electrolysis test station. The distribution of the Pt and Fe nanoparticles on carbon black was observed by TEM, and the loading weight of Pt-Fe nanocatalysts on the carbon black was measured by TGA. Elemental ratio of Fe:Pt was estimated by EDS and it was found that elemental ratio of Pt and Fe was changed in the range of 1:0 to 0:1, and the loading weight of Pt-Fe nanoparticles on the carbon black was 5.95-6.78 wt%. Specific surface area was greatly reduced because Pt-Fe nanocatalysts blocked the pores. I-V characteristics were estimated.
