영역별 절점재구성을 통한 격자재구성 및 소성가공해석 (Mesh Reconstruction Using Redistibution of Nodes in Sub-domains and Its Application to the Analyses of Metal Forming Problems)

  • In the finite element analysis of forming process, objects are described with a finite number of elements and nodes and the approximated solutions can be obtained by the variational principle. One of the shortcomings of a finite element analysis is that the structure of mesh has become inefficient and unusable because discretization error increases as deformation proceeds due to severe distortion of elements. If the state of current mesh satisfies a certain remeshing criterion, analysis is stopped instantly and resumed with a reconstructed mesh. In the study, a new remeshing algorithm using tetrahedral elements has been developed, which is adapted to the desired mesh density. In order to reduce the discretization error, desired mesh sizes in each lesion of the workpiece are calculated using the Zinkiewicz and Zhu's a-posteriori error estimation scheme. The pre-constructed mesh is constructed based on the modified point insertion technique which is adapted to the density function. The object domain is divided into uniformly-sized sub-domains and the numbers of nodes in each sub-domain are redistributed, respectively. After finishing the redistribution process of nodes, a tetrahedral mesh is reconstructed with the redistributed nodes, which is adapted to the density map and resulting in good mesh quality. A goodness and adaptability of the constructed mesh is verified with a testing measure. The proposed remeshing technique is applied to the finite element analyses of forging processes.

전자기 결합기법을 이용한 원편파 마이크로스트립 크로스 다이폴 어레이 안테나의 설계 (Design for the Circularly Polarized Microstrip Cross Dipole Array Antenna by Electromagnetic Coupled Technique)

  • 본 논문에서는 광대역 특성을 가지는 원편과 마이크로스트립 EMC 크로스 다이폴 어레이 안테나의 설계에 관하여 기술하고 있다. 광대역 특성과 원편과 특성을 실현하기 위해, 급전선과 전자기적으로 결합하는 크로스다이폴 소자를 제안한다. 원편파 EMC 크로스 다이폴 소자의 최적 설계 파라미터들은 FDTD와 앙상블에 의해 계산되었다. 어레이에 있어서 전계의 균일한 개구분포를 얻기 위하여, 크로스 다이폴 소자들을 마이크로스트립 급전선로를 중심으로 하여 지그재그로 배치하는 Offset 기법을 사용하였다. 20소자 어레이 설계로부터 12 GHz에서 계산된 축비와 이득은 각각 0.1 dB와 9.9 dBi 였다. 제작된 20소자 어레이 안테나의 주파수 특성이 측정되었고 계산 결과와 잘 일치하였다.

  • A circular plate is one of the important structures in many industrial fields. In static analysis of a circular plate, we may obtain an exact solution by analytical method, but it is limited to a simple circular plate. Thus, many researchers and designers have used numerical methods such as the finite element method. The authors of this paper developed the finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method (FE-TSCM) for static and dynamic analyses of various structures. FE-TSCM is the combination of the modeling technique of the finite element method (FEM) and the transfer technique of the transfer stiffness coefficient method (TSCM). FE-TSCM has the advantages of both FEM and FE-TSCM. In this paper, the authors formulate the computational algorithm for the static analysis of axisymmetric circular plates under lateral loading using FE-TSCM. The computational results for three computational models obtained by FE-TSCM are compared with those obtained by FEM in order to confirm the accuracy of FE-TSCM.

Mechanism of intragranular ferrite formation in heat-affected zone of titanium killed steel

  • A lot of work is carried out concerning to acicular ferrite formation in the weld metal of high strength and low-alloy steel. Those results are suggesting that oxides that contain titanium elements provides nucleation site of intragranular ferrite, referred as acicular ferrite. Thus, when intragranular ferrite is expected to form in heat-affected zone, oxide containing titanium element should be formed in the steel. However, normal steel is deoxidized by using aluminum element (Al-killed steel) with little oxygen content. It means almost oxygen is deoxidized with aluminum elements. In the present work, in order to form the acicular ferrite in the heat affected zone, with the same concept in the case of weld metal, the steel deoxidized with titanium element (titanium killed-steel) is prepared and the acicular ferrite formation is observed in detail by using laser-conforcal microscopy technique. The confocal technique makes it possible that the morphological change along the phase transformation from austenite to ferrite is in-situ tracked. Thus, the inclusion that stimulated the ferrite nucleation could be directly selected from the observed images, in the HAZ of the Ti-killed steel. The chemical composition of the selected inclusion is analyzed and the nucleation potential is discussed by changing the nucleation site with boron element. The potency for the ferrite nucleation is summarized and the existence of effective and ineffective manganese sulfide for nucleation is made clear.

Fatigue life prediction for radial truck tires using a global-local finite element method

  • A global-local finite element modeling technique is employed in this paper to predict the fatigue life of radial truck tires. This paper assumes that a flaw exists inside the tire, in the local model. The local model uses an FEM fracture analysis in conjunction with a global-local technique in ABAQUS. A 3D finite element local model calculates the energy release rate at the belt edge. Using the analysis of the local model, a study of the energy release rate is performed in the crack region and used to determine the crack growth rate analysis. The result considers how different driving conditions contribute to the detrimental effects of belt separation in truck tire failure. The calculation of the total mileage on four sizes of radial truck tires has performed on the belt edge separation. The effect of the change of belt width design on the fatigue lifetime of tire belt separation is discussed.

p-수렴 경계요소법에 의한 L-형 영역을 갖는 2차원 포텐셜 문제 해석 (Analysis of 2-D Potential Problem with L-shape Domain by p-Convergent Boundary Element Method)

  • 2차원 포텐셜 문제를 해석하기 위해 고차의 르장드르 형상함수에 기초를 둔 p-수렴 경계요소법이 제안되었다. p-수렴 경계요소법은 종래의 경계요소법에서 사용되는 형상함수와 성질이 다른 르장드르 다항식을 형상함수로 사용한다. p-수렴 유한요소법과 마찬가지로 고차의 형상함수에 따른 절점의 위치가 경계상에서 정해지지 않는다. 따라서 형상함수가 증가함에 따라 선형방정식을 구성하기 위한 수단으로 선점법을 이용하였다. p-수렴 경계요소법에서 선점법은 비대칭 계층적 선점법과 대칭 비계층적 선점법을 선택하여 수치해석을 수행하였다. 선택점들은 형상함수가 증가함에 따라 증가하는 성질을 나타내며 계층적 또는 대칭적으로 선택될 수 있다. p-수렴 경계요소법에서 나타나는 특이 적분항을 계산하기 위해 special numeric quadrature technique와 semi-analytical integration technique를 사용하였다. 사각모서리부에서 특이성을 가지는 L-형 영역문제를 해석한 결과 적은 수의 자유도에서 기존문헌의 결과와 차이가 거의 없는 정도인 $10^{-2}%$단위 이하의 정확도를 보여주었다. 또한 같은 조건에서는 대칭형 선점의 위치를 이용해 계산한 값이 가장 높은 정확도를 보여주었다.

  • Adhesive contact characteristics of torus-shaped bumps were analyzed using the finite element technique considering the adhesive force. Analyses focused on the effect of rim and bump radii on the adhesive contact behavior such as the jump-to-contact behavior, adhesion hysteresis, pull-off forces, contact region and pressure, and surface and subsurface stresses. Analysis results in the absence of adhesive force were also included to examine the effect of adhesive force. The applicability of torus-shaped bumps to the MEMS structure for reduction of friction is discussed.

고차 삼각형 유한요소에 의한 구형단면의 온도분포와 열전달 (Temperature distribution & heat transfer of rectangular cross section by the higher-order triangular finite element method)

  • This paper is studied an efficient temperature distribution and heat transfer of two-dimensional rectangular cross-section by the higher-order triangular finite dynamic element and finite difference. This is achieved by employing a discretization technique based on a recently developed concept of finite dynamic elements, involving higher order dynamic correction terms in the associated stiffness and convection matrices. Numerical solution results of temperature distribution presented herein clearly optimum element and show that FEM10 is the most accurate temperature distribution, but heat transfer and computational effort is the most acquired.

  • Titanium alloys are a vital element for developing advanced structural components, especially in aerospace applications. However, process design for successful forming of titanium alloy is a difficult task, which is to be achieved within a very narrow range of process parameters. Presented in this paper is a finite element - based optimal design technique as applied to ductile fracture minimization process design in backward extrusion of titanium alloys.
