As vehicles become more intelligent this is focused on ways to enhance safety and convenience for both drivers and passengers. In particular, x-by-wire systems that replace rigid mechanical components with dynamically configurable electronic elements are being developed to expand intelligent functions, such as adaptive cruise control or lane departure warning system. Because the malfunction of safety-related modules controlling critical functions, such as brakes, throttle, and steering in x-by-wire systems, can cause injury or death, safety and reliability are the most critical issue for automotive vendors and parts manufacturers. In an effort to develop better and effective brake-by-wire system, this paper presents EMB system by using the low speed electric vehicle, which is not required large braking force, with motor controller. In addition, we design performance evaluation system of EMB with 1/4 low speed electric vehicle model and suggested EMB is evaluated through the performance evaluation system.

To address the wire complexity problem in large-scale globally asynchronous, locally synchronous systems, a current-mode ternary encoding scheme was devised for a two-phase asynchronous protocol. However, for data transmission through a very long wire, few studies have been conducted on reducing the long propagation delay in current-mode circuits. Hence, this paper proposes a current steering logic (CSL) that is able to minimize the long delay for the devised current-mode ternary encoding scheme. The CSL creates pulse signals that charge or discharge the output signal in advance for a short period of time, and as a result, helps prevent a slack in the current signals. The encoder and decoder circuits employing the CSL are implemented using $0.25-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The results of an HSPICE simulation show that the normal and optimal mode operations of the CSL achieve a delay reduction of 11.8% and 28.1%, respectively, when compared to the original scheme for a 10-mm wire. They also reduce the power-delay product by 9.6% and 22.5%, respectively, at a data rate of 100 Mb/s for the same wire length.
In this paper, Hybrid Electric Vehicle is directly designed and manufactured for base study of HEV's system and Green Car. Foundation design consists of power train design and the frame design. The power train concept includes motor, engine, generator and battery. And the concept of the frame is the single-seat of this self-made HEV. A frame installed in hybrid system contains suspension, steering wheel, seat, accelerating pedal, brake pedal, clutch handle and various chassis parts with bearings. Electromagnetic clutch is equipped to transmit engine power to drive axle. The control algorism make using LabVIEW to control of an engine and a motor depending on drive condition. A parallel type hybrid system is manufactured to control operation of a motor and an engine depending on vehicle speed.
On-line and real-time information of the longitudinal velocity is the essential factor for the Advanced Vehicle Control Systems such as ABS(Anti-lock Brake System), TCS(Traction Control System), ESC (Electronic Stability Control) etc. However, the longitudinal velocity cannot be easily measured or calculated during braking maneuvering. A new algorithm is presented for the estimation of the longitudinal velocity with the measurements of the vehicle longitudinal/lateral acceleration, steering angle and yaw rate. The algorithm is designed utilizing the Extended Kalman Filter based on the 3 degree of freedom vehicle model. In order to compensate for the biased sensor signal on the inclined road, the inclined angle is also estimated. The performance of the proposed estimation algorithm is evaluated in field tests.
A pack-level battery hardware-in-the-loop simulation (B-HILS) platform is implemented. It consists of dynamic vehicle models using PSAT and multiple control interfaces including real-time 3D driving and GPS mode. In real-time 3D driving mode, user can drive a virtual vehicle using actual drive equipment such as steering wheel and accelerator to generate the cycle profile of the battery. In GPS mode, actual road traffic and terrain effects can be simulated using GPS data while the trajectory is displayed on Google map. In the latter part of the paper, several performance tests of an actual lithium-polymer battery pack are carried out utilizing the developed system. All experiments are conducted as parts of actual development process of a commercial battery pack adopting 2nd generation Prius as a target vehicle model. Through the experiments, the low temperature performance and fuel efficiency of the battery are quantitatively investigated in comparison with the original nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) pack of the Prius.
Recently, the performance and function of electrical and electronic system in automotive vehicles is developing at a rapid rate with the advancement of IT technologies. Combined together with micro-controller and sensor technologies, the Vehicle Smart System (VSS) being developed to improve driver's convenience and comfort has been employed to a variety of applications. In addition to the convenience system, the Auto-parking Assistance System (AAS) that is now attracting a new attention has been already applied to some vehicles, but it is currently limited to luxury car models only. In this paper, we present a fuzzy controller that enables autonomous parking assistance without the AAS. The controller can perform the assistance with information provided from moving status, current position and steering angle as one is able to park a car based on his/her experience and knowledge for driving and parking. We have evaluated its performance of the proposed controller by simulation and tested the excellence of the controller by building a model vehicle embedded with the micro-controllers.
Using a spatial compound imaging technique in a medical ultrasound imaging system, the average speed of sound in a medium of interest is measured, and imaging of its distribution is implemented. When the brightness reaches the highest level in an ultrasonic image obtained as the speed of sound used in focusing is varied, it turns out that the focusing has been accomplished satisfactorily and that the speed of sound which has been adopted becomes the sought-after average speed of sound. Because spatial compound imaging provides many different views of the same object, the adverse effect of erroneous speed-of-sound estimation tends to be more severe in compound imaging than in plain B-mode imaging. Thus, in compound imaging, the average speed of sound even in the case of speckled images can be accurately estimated by observing the brightness change due to different speeds of sound employed. Using this new method that offers spatial diversity, we can construct an image of the speed of sound distribution in a phantom embedded with a 10-mm diameter plastic cylinder whose speed of sound is different from that of the background. The speed of sound in the cylinder is found to be different from that of the surrounding medium.
