  • This paper reports the studies on the wear-corrosion behavior of ductile cast iron in the various pH environments. In the variety of pH solutions, corrosion and wear-corrosion loss of GCD 600 were investigated. Also, the anodic polarization test of GCD 600 using potentiostat/galvanostat was carried out. And rubbed surface of GCD 60 using scanning electron micrographs after immersion and wear-corrosion test was examined in the environment of various pH values. The main results are as following In alkali zone, the wear-corrosion loss of GCD 600 increases, but corrosion loss decreases. The unevenness and crack of wear-corrosion surface in neutral zone becomes duller than that in alkali zone. As the corrosive environment is acidified, wear-corrosion behavior of GCD 600 with passing immersion time becomes sensitive.

  • In this study, the fracture behavior of a thermoplastic-modified epoxy resin reinforced with continuous carbon fibers for two levels of fiber-matrix adhesion was performed. A carbon fiber with commercial sizing was used and also treated with a known silane, (3-glycidoxy propyl trimethoxysilane) coupling agent. Toughness was determined using the double cantilever test, together with surface analysis after failure using scanning electron microscope. The presence of polysulfone particles improved the fracture behavior of the composite, but fiber-matrix adhesion seemed to play a very important role in the performance of the composite material. There appeared to be a synergy between the matrix modifier and the fiber-matrix adhesion coupling agent.

  • Block copolymer (BCP) self-assembly in a film geometry has recently been the focus of increased research interest due to their potential use as templates and scaffolds for the fabrication of nanostructured materials. The phase behavior in a thin film geometry that confines polymer chains to the interfaces will be influenced by the interfacial interactions at substrate/polymer and polymer/air and the commensurability between the equilibrium period (L0) of the BCP and the total film thickness. We investigated the phase transitions for the films of block copolymers (BCPs) on the modified surface, like the order-to-disorder transition (ODT) by in-situ grazing incidence small angle x-ray scattering (GISAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The selective interactions on the surface by a PS-grafted substrate provide the preferential interactions with the PS component of the block, while a random copolymer (PS-r-PMMA) grafted substrate do the balanced interfacial interactions on the surface. The thickness dependence of order-to-disorder behavior for BCP films will be discussed in terms of the surface interactions.

  • Three thermally stable red dyes of azo, quinacridone and perylene derivatives were synthesized and dye-based color filters were manufactured for liquid crystal display. Aggregation behavior of the dyes and their spectral property in film state were investigated by concentration dependent spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). These dyes have remarkable difference on their aggregation behavior in film state. Such difference of aggregation behavior affects the spectral property of the film, and it can cause decreasing the transmittance of dye-based color filters.

  • In this paper we investigated the behavior of low molecular weight silicone fluids in silicone rubber by W treatment with solvent-extraction and GPC. It was shown that LMW quantity which was extracted by solvent-extraction was decreased in UV treatment time. $200{\sim}450\;g/mol$ distribution of LMW silicone fluid was contributed to recovery. It was similar to result from corona discharge. Morphological analysis was investigated by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The behavior of LMW silicone fluids in silicone rubber which was contributed to recovery was discussed.

  • Thin films of MgO-doped and CaO-doped iron oxide were prepared y spray pyrolysis. The films were characterized b X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and voltammetric techniques. The photoelectrochemical behavior of thin film electrodes depended greatly on the doping level, sintering temperature, substrate temperature and added photosensitizing compounds in solution, showed p-type photoelectrochemical behavior, while the CaO-doped iron oxide thin films prepared at low temperature showed n-type photoelectrochemical behavior. This characteristic change was interpreted in terms of the surface structure change of the thin films and doping effect of metal oxide.

  • Lightweight materials such as aluminum and magnesium have recently received much attention in the automotive industries because of environmental and fuel-efficiency concerns. Using the powder metallurgy (PM) process for these materials creates significant opportunities for the cost-effective manufacture of lightweight automotive parts. In the present study, an Al-Cu-Mg alloy was fabricated using conventional PM processes. Primarily, the effects of the alloying elements on the sintering characteristics and mechanical behavior after heat treatment were investigated. A microstructural analysis was performed using an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope to investigate the behavior of liquid phase sintering, including the formation of precipitates. The dependence of the mechanical behavior on the alloying elements was evaluated based on the transverse rupture strength.

  • In this study, the polyurethane microcapsules containing disperse dye were prepared by in-situ polymerization method using hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI, aliphatic type) and m-xylene diisocyanate(XDI, aromatic type) with ethylene glycol (EG) And the size, shape, particle size distribution, and breaking behavior of microcapsules prepared were investigated. The size and shape of microcapsule were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) . The particle size distribution was analyzed by image analyzer. The breaking behavior of microcapsule was checked by measuring the optical density of solution that the disperse dye was dissolved after the microcapsule was broken by constant pressure. The particle size was inversely proportional to the stirring speed, and the size of microcapsule prepared from HDI and EG was smaller than that of microcapsule prepared from XDI and EG. Aliphatic type microcapsule was broken easily, compared with aromatic type one. It was considered due to the difference of reactivity between HDI and XDI. And the microcapsule prepared by stirring strongly was broken easily.

  • This article aims at investigating the effect of applied load and sliding speed on wear behavior of thermally spraryed STS316 coating. STS316 coatings were fabricated by flame spray process according to optimal parameters on steel substrates. Dry sliding wear tests were performed on STS316 coating using four different applied load as 10, 15, 20 and 25 N and four different sliding speed as 15, 30, 45 and 60 rpm. Wear behavior on worn surface was investigated using scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy disperive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS). The dominant wear mechanism of STS316 coating under low applied load and sliding speed was oxidation on worn surface. However, under high applied load and sliding speed the principal wear mechanism was abrasion on oxidation film and damage of oxidation film.

  • Behavior of platinum group elements during crystallization within ore magma is of interest. In this study platinum is selected and its mineralogical and geochemical behavior in the presence of antimony and tellurium is investigated at 600$^{\circ}C$. High purity Pt, Sb, and Te are used as starting material and silica quartz tubings are as container. Rection products have been examined by use of ore microscope, X-ray diffractometer, electron microprobe analyser and micro-indentation hardness tester. stable phases at 600$^{\circ}C$ are platinum (Pt), Pt5Sb, Pt3Sb, PtSb, stumpflite (PtSb), geversite (PtSb), PtTe, Pt3Te4, Pt2Te3, moncheite (PtTe2), tellurantimony (Sb2Te3), and antimony (Sb). Geversite is the mineral showing the most significant extent of solid solution by up to 27 at% between Sb and Te elements. Isothermal section of 600$^{\circ}C$ is established in this study. It is noted that platinum cannot coexists with stumpflite or geversite under equilibrium condition, and stumpflite composition in equilibrium with geversite may be used as geothermometer.
