  • The differential electromagnetic transducer for IME(implantable middle ear) system, which have two small permanent magnets glued with the same pole facing each other in the coil, has high vibration efficiency and does not influenced by external magnetic field. In this paper, using finite element method, highly efficient structure of the transducer was proposed and vibration force of the transducer was calculated by electromagnetic theory. And the necessary vibration force of transducer to transmit the sound signal to inner ear when the transducer is attached at stapes was calculated and the design parameters of the transducer were investigated. Using the parameters, the differential electromagnetic transducer was manufactured in small size to implant in confined human middle ear. And it was examined by unloaded and loaded vibration experiment using temporal bone sampled from cadaver.

  • The TMD has a simpler structure than other vibration control devices and shows excellent control performance for the standardized vibration occurring in the structure. However, when the vibration cycle of the structure coincides with the vibration cycle of the TMD due to the sudden external loads, the off-tuning occurs, which threatens the structure while increasing the vibration width of the TMD. Therefore, Electromagnetic Tuned Mass Damper (ETMD) was developed as a semi-active TMD that prevents off-tuning while exhibiting excellent control performance like TMD. To verify the control performance of the developed ETMD, the bending behavior control performance evaluation experiment using a simple beam bridge was performed. The experimental method compared the mutual control power by experimenting with the existing TMD method and the developed ETMD under nine excitation frequency conditions. As a result, it was confirmed that the control effect of ETMD was about 4.85% higher than that of TMD at 3.02Hz, which generates the maximum displacement in the simple beam bridge. Also, the off-tuning occurred in some excitation conditions when using TMD, although the off-tuning did not occur when using ETMD. Therefore, the excellent control performance of the ETMD developed in this study was verified.

  • In this study, a new hybrid mount with a moving-coil-type electromagnetic actuator is developed to reduce the vibration transmitted from naval shipboard equipment to the ship hull structure. The detailed design of the hybrid mount is determined through several design stages with electromagnetic numerical analysis using Maxwell software. The hybrid mount, which combines a rubber mount with an electromagnetic actuator, has a fail-safe function for shock resistance. The mount is fabricated and tested using a universal testing machine to check the design specifications. Finally, control tests are carried out on the hybrid mount to confirm its performance and applicability.

  • This paper presents an electromagnetic kinetic energy harvester which is suitable for supplying power for body-worn sensors and personal electric devices. Human motions are investigated by measuring the acceleration signal at each points of the body during walking and running. The dynamic characteristics of the harvester can be calculated from the transfer function of the system. The transduction factor can be calculated from the electromagnetic field analysis by Maxwell software. The prototype of the harvester is designed and manufactured. The theoretical power characteristics are compared with the experiment results.

  • Electromagnetic system of motor is being minimized by superior magnetic material and advanced design technology. But this type of motor causes a serious vibration. This is a big problem of motor operation. To decrease a vibration, motor is need to be designed considering mechanical vibration. This paper study about torque, natural frequency and mechanical vibration according to displacement.

  • The vibration test system of satellite environment test dept. has been used successfully for the vibration tests of a majority of korean space programs. To meet the recent needs of large size test facility available for the vibrational tests of the huge launch vehicles and satellites, KARI have developed the large size multi-electromagnetic shaking system with $3{\times}3m$ head expander system. The new system will consist of three electromagnetic shakers which has 160 kN thrust force individually, and be able to sustain up to 8 tons test load and 300 kNm overturing moment. This paper describes the design components in the development process of multi-excitation shaker system.

  • With recent development of technology of high stiffness material and the structural design, the construction of high rise structures such as tall building, tower has increased. The more flexible and slender structure is vulnerable to the internal and external dynamic loads induced by earthquake, wind and traffic load. There have been great effort and many researches to minimize the influence of dynamic loads on the structure. The traditional and stable method, the application of the passive damper, is not able to comply with various dynamic loads, while the mass damper which active control technology is integrated can effectively comply with load types. Therefore, the application of active control of huge structures with AMD(Active mass damper) or HMD(Hybrid Mass damper) is increasing. Up to now, most of actuators are servomotor and hydraulic actuator. But it is known that the electromagnetic actuator applies non contacting control force, which makes the control system easier with no characteristic change depending on time. In this paper, Hybrid mass damper with electromagnetic actuator was designed and applied to building scaled structure. The performance of designed HMD tested by shake table test is included.

  • Structural model of laminated composite plates based on the first order shear deformable plate theory and subjected to a combination of magnetic and thermal fields is developed. Coupled equations of motion are derived via Hamilton's principle on the basis of electromagnetic equations (Faraday, Ampere, Ohm, and Lorentz equations) and thermal ones which are involved in constitutive equations. In order to reveal the implications of a number of geometrical and physical features of the model, free vibration of a composite plate immersed in a transversal magnetic field and subjected to a temperature gradient is considered. Special coupling effects between the magnetic-thermal-elastic fields are revealed in this paper.

  • Energy harvesting in trams may become a prevalent source of passive energy generation due to the high density of vibrational energy, and this may help power structural health monitoring systems for the trams. This paper presents a broadband vibrational energy harvesting device design that utilizes a varied frequency from a tram vehicle using a 2 DOF vibrational system combined with electromagnetic energy conversion. This paper will demonstrate stepwise optimization processes to determine mechanical parameters for frequency tuning to adjust to the trams' operational conditions, and electromagnetic parameters for the whole system design to maximize power output. The initial optimization will determine 5 important design parameters in a 2 DOF vibrational system, namely the masses (m1, m2 (and spring constants (k1, k2, k3). The second step will use these parameters as initial guesses for the second optimization which will maintain the ratios of these parameters and present electrical parameters to maximize the power output from this system. The obtained values indicated a successful demonstration of design optimization as the average power generated increased from 1.475 mW to 17.44 mW (around 12 times).

  • The vibration and noise caused by the dynamic interaction between electromagnetic suspension and the linear synchronous motor stator beneath a flexible guideway remain problems in designing attractive Maglev trains. One possible method to reduce the sources of vibration is to minimize the detent force in the linear synchronous motor that creates variations in both lift force and thrust. This paper proposes lowering detent force by using separated core instead of single united core. The magnet is designed to adapt to the deflected guideway at a speed of 550km/h. This study will analyze the electromagnetic field and control performance, and how they relate to lift forces and dynamic responses.
