  • This paper presents An efficient method of antenna placement considering EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) between equipments which are mounted on the UAV(Unmanned Air Vehicle). The analysis is accomplished for voice communication radio, control datalink, TCAS(Traffic Alert Collision & Avoidance System) and GPS(Global Positioning System) which are vulnerable to EMI because the frequencies are close to each other. There are two steps for analysis procedure : The first one is selecting antenna position on the UAV by monitoring return loss and pattern variation of each antenna. The second one is analyzing EMI via antennas between equipments. In the EMI analysis, spurious level of each transmitter, coupling level between antennas and system noise property are considered. This procedure can be used to predict EMI between equipments in development stage.

  • A new EMI estimation technique concerned with a PDP system is presented. A physical circuit model is developed which can fairly well describe the AC-PDP system. Then EMIs are determined by exploiting Hertzian dipole antenna model. The simulation results are experimentally verified with the test panel. The AC PDP system was measured in the frequency range of 30MHz ~ 300MHz in a semi-anechoic chamber, according to CISPR 13 code. Thereby, it is shown that the proposed technique can be usefully employed for EMI reduction.

• This paper analyses the harmonic pollution to power grids caused by thyristor-controlled devices. It also formulates a mathematic derivation for the voltage spikes in thyristor-controlled branches to explain the harmonic and EMI derived from the reverse-recovery characteristics of the thyristor. With an equivalent nonlinear time-varying voltage source, a detailed simulation model is established, and the periodic dynamic switching characteristic of the thyristor can be explicitly implied. The simulation results are consistent with the probed results from on-site measurements. An improved trigger system with gate-shorted circuit structure is proposed to reduce the voltage spikes that cause EMI. The experimental results indicate that a prototype with the improved trigger system can effectively suppress the voltage spikes.

  • Randomizing the switching frequency (RSF) to reduce the electromagnetic interference (EMI) of switching power converters is a well-known technique that has been previously discussed. The randomized pulse position (RPP) technique, in which the switching frequency is kept fixed while the pulse position (the delay from the starting of the switching cycle to the turn-on instant within the cycle) is randomized, has been previously addressed in the literature for the same purpose. This paper presents a double-hybrid technique (DHB) for EMI reduction in dc-dc switching regulators. The proposed technique employed both the RSF and the RPP techniques. To effectively spread the conducted-noise frequency spectrum and at the same time attain a satisfactory output voltage quality, two parameters (switching frequency and pulse position) were randomized, and a third parameter (the duty ratio) was controlled by a digital compensator. Implementation was achieved using field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology, which is increasingly being adopted in industrial electronic applications. To evaluate the contribution of the proposed DHB technique, investigations were carried out for each basic PWM, RPP, RSF, and DHB technique. Then a comparison was made of the performances achieved. The experimentally investigated features include the effect of each technique on the common-mode, differential-mode, and total conducted-noise characteristics, and their influence on the converter’s output ripple voltage.

  • The Electromagnetic Interference(EMI) generating from corona discharge of transformer area can interference the digital Instrument and Control(I&C) systems located nearby transformers. When the potential gradient of the electric field around the conductor is high enough to form a conductive region but not high enough to cause electrical breakdown to nearby objects, the EMI of corona discharge emits with the conducted and radiated noise and it interferences the signals of the I&C systems. Since digital I&C systems have an efficiency and competitive price, the analog I&C systems have been upgraded and displaced with the digital I&C systems but which have less EMI Immunity. There was no assessment to I&C systems by EMI generating corona discharge nearby transformers. When the safety-related I&C systems are installed in plants, the verification of equipment EMI should be done not in site-specific test but in test facilities. There are the need to do the site-specific EMI evaluation of corona discharge nearby transformers. This paper assesses the margin between plant emission limits and the highest composite plant emission of corona. When the non safety-related I&C systems are placed in transformer area, it suggests the appropriate radiated susceptibility level to EMI of corona discharge.

  • In this paper, we design a ring inductor using the ferrite core to denoise the EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) for facsimile. The EMI for facsimile is radiated from the signal line of PSTN(Public Switching Telephone Network) between facsimile and PSTN. We denoise the radiated noise by inserting a ferrite core(Ni-Zn) between facsimile and PSTN. Even though we may denoise the radiated noise using two or more than two ferrite cores, we only concentrate on denoising EMI by adjusting number of turns of one ferrite core since it gives economical gain. As a result of measuring EMI using the designed inductor with 4 turns inserted in the line connected between facsimile and PSTN, the value of radiated emission is reduced below 30 dB$\mu$V/m.

  • In this study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were treated with nickel by electroless plating method for improving electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance of MWCNT. The physical properties of electroless plated MWCNT were analyzed by using ultra-high resolution scanning electron microscope (UHR-SEM), thermogravimetry (TGA), sheet resistance analyzer and EMI shielding analyzer. EMI shielding efficiencies of nickel electroless plated MWCNT were measured to be 16 dB from 800 MHz band, which was 1.6 times increased compared to that of the activated MWCNT. Also, the average sheet resistance of nickel electroless plated MWCNT was measured to be $70{\Omega}/sq$, which was 56% decreased compared to that of the activated MWCNT. This result could be attributed to the plating morphology on the surface of MWCNT. This result could be attributed to uniformity of plating morphology on the surface, which has more effect on EMI shielding efficiency than the amount of nickel plating.

  • In recent times, the demand for electronic devices has increased because of advancements in the electronics industry. Consequently, research on shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI) from electronic devices has also progressed significantly. In particular, research on imparting electrical conductivity to plastic has seen substantial progress. In this study, the effect of hybrid fillers comprising carbon fiber (CF) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the electrical properties of polyamide 66 (PA66) composites was investigated. PA66 composites were prepared using a BUSS Co-Kneader single-screw extruder. EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) increased with the increasing addition of unsized CF (UCF), sized CF (SCF), and CNTs. For the PA66/SCF/CNT hybrid filler composites, EMI SE significantly increased with the increase in SCF content. Finally, the hybrid filler comprising SCF and CNTs may have a synergistic effect on the EMI SE and surface resistivity of PA66/SCF/CNT composites.
