  • In this paper, we propose the prediction algorithm of radiation emission from the PCB in an enclosure with a rectangular aperture. PCB scanner is used to measure the near field, which is substituted with an equivalent electric dipole source. Green function and Fourier transform are utilized to represent the electromagnetic fields within and outside the enclosure, respectively. The radiation emission is estimated by using the mode matching technique and surface equivalent theorem. The theoretical results are compared with the measurement to check the accuracy of our analysis.

  • There were overwhelming high-frequency electromagnetic noises in 200kW-class hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) although EMC control strategy had been applied to cope with the electromagnetic noises during the development of HEV. This paper investigates the characteristics of the conducted and radiated emission noises, the source and path of noises, and the effects of EMI on the electronics. Finally the design concept of noise control is proposed.

  • The DC power-bus' resonance is frequently attributed to EMI sources in the PCBs. Subsequently, it will ruin the digital signal integrity within one system or between adjacent systems in the form of conducted or radiated emission. Hence, since it is of importance to examine the PCB's emission, this paper sheds a light on the radiated emission from the power-bus with regards to its resonance modes. A full-wave analysis method is used to calculate the impedance and radiated electric fields and is validated by physics and an EM analysis tool.

  • Differential signaling has become a popular choice for high-speed interconnection schemes on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), offering superior immunity to external noise. However, conventional differential transmission lines on PCBs have problems, such as crosstalk and radiated emission. To overcome these, we propose a Twisted Differential Line (TDL) structure on a multi-layer PCB. Its improved immunity to crosstalk noise and the reduced radiated emission has been successfully demonstrated by measurement. The proposed structure is proven to transmit 3 Gbps digital signals with a clear eye-pattern. Furthermore, it is subject to much less crosstalk noise and achieves a 13 dB suppression of radiated emission. Index Terms - Twisted Differential Line, Differential Signaling, Crosstalk, Radiated Emission, Transmission Line, Twisted Pair

  • The immunity testing in this study was performed to examine the conducted immunity and radiated immunity in medical instrumentation. Experiments were performed to assess the conducted emission and radiated emission of medical instrumentation such as MRI, ultrasound system, and electro surgical unit etc. The emission testing revolves around conducted emissions (high-frequency currents) on power lines and signal cables. Emission testing also looks at the output of energy through the air (called radiated emissions) and analyzes the strength of those radio-frequency signals generated unintentionally by the electrical medical device that is under test. Finally, this study would provide significant data for furture research or electromagnetic interference and compatibility test in medical instrumentation.

  • Electromagnetic radiation at the plasma frequency and its second harmonic, the so-called plasma emission, is fundamental process responsible for solar type II and III radio bursts. There have also been occasional observations of higher-harmonic plasma emissions in the solar-terrestrial environment. We will present that the simulation effort on characterizing the electron beam-generated plasma emission process at POSTECH. We have developed fully electromagnetic particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation code with three dimensions. We simulated harmonic plasma emission with various beam condition. Qualitative comparison with the traditional plasma frequency and second harmonic radiation theory is in good agreement. Higher harmonic emissions agree with the theory of coalescence of Langmuir and harmonic EM wave.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the vulnerability of information leakage due to the leakage electromagnetic waves of a PC keyboard. First, we reviewed the keyboard protocol and hardware structure, we analyzed the correlation between the data signal, which is transmitted from the keyboard to the main body, and the leakage signal on the power cable. With the result, we grasped the cause of the Conducted Emission of a PC keyboard. Also, we compared the limit level of the CISPR 22 standard with the amplitude of the keyboard leakage electromagnetic waves we calculated. By analyzing the signal on the power cable of the PC main body through the simple experiment, we show that it is possible to extract the contents of the PC key. Therefore it is verified that the secret information of the PC user could leak out.

  • EMF (Electromagnetic Field) is a valuable resource for living in a knowledge-based information society. The EMF is used in home appliances that make our lives easy and convenient, and in telecommunication devices such as mobile phones, personal computers, medical devices and broadcasting towers. However, the biological hazards associated with EMF exposure are also increasing in signal from telecommunication devices. Studies of the effects of EMF exposure on humans have been conducted for a long time, but it has not yet been demonstrated whether the EMF effect is harmful. In this paper, we examine the electromagnetic field emitted from various electronic devices around living and its effect.

  • Environmental tests should be carried out to show that design performance is in an operational condition in an actual operational environment to assure maintainability and reliability. Aero-products electromagnetic compatibility tests are performed mainly for the individual parts and Specifications MIL-STD-461E and RTCA DO-160E are developed for the military and commercial parts tests respectively. The MIL-STD-461E which is a military environmental test standard is targeting all munitions and that user can apply by selecting applicable requirements from this specification. On the other hand, requirements are applied exclusively for the Avionics Equipments in commercial test standard.
