  • During the EFT immunity test, the fast transient voltage is injected to the power or signal line. The radiated noise from these lines influences the near-by EUT, and consequently, the reliability of the test result can be jeopardized. The measured data of the field strength and wave shape of the noise were compared with the result of the mathematical analysis using transmission line model. When the tests were performed by the conditions the same as stated in IEC 61000-4-4, the results showed that the magnitude of the radiated electric field strength was about 2.4KV/m, and it can cause severe interference to the intended operation of EUT.

  • This paper studies a method for reducing performance degradation due to losing sub-carrier orthogonality caused by power transient between physical channels in LTE uplink transmission. The pattern of inter-carrier interference(ICI) caused by power transient is different from what has been studied for doppler shift, in that its pattern occurs at front and rear sides of channels in each period of power transient. The reason of ICI's occurrence results from power difference between channels, power transient duration, multi-path channel delay spread, and numbers of sub-carrier. New criterion is proposed to find out number of taps of multi-tap equalizer enough to improve the ICI. The scheme is to determine the number of taps of multi-tap equalizer when a normalized interference or a normalized ICI is greater than a normalized noise. Simulation results show that the number of taps is flexibly adjusted according to SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) of a received signal to improve Bit Error Rate(BER), while the complexity of the proposed scheme is reduced down to 88 percentage of the classical method.

  • In this paper, we present a new formulation using time-domain electric field integral equation (TD-EFIE) to obtain transient scattering response from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional conducting bodies. The time derivative of the magnetic vector potential is approximated with a central finite difference and the scalar potential is time averaged by dividing it into two terms. This approach with an implicit method using central difference results in accurate and more stable transient scattering responses from conducting objects. Detailed mathematical steps are included and several numerical results are presented and compared with the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the frequency-domain solution.

  • In this study was proposed a transient response analysis technique of a rotor system, applying the generalized FE modeling method of a rotor-bearing system considering a base-transferred shock force and together the state-space Newmark method of direct time integration scheme based on the average velocity concept. Experiments were performed to a test rig of a mock-up rotor-bearing system with series of half-sine shock waves imposed by an electromagnetic shaker, and quantitative error analyses between analytical and experimental results were carried out. The transient reponses of the rotor were sensitive to duration times and shape-qualities of the shock waves, and overally the analytical results agreed quite well with the experimental ones. Particularly, in cases that the frequencies, $1/(2{\times}duration\;time)$, of the shock waves were close to the critical speed of the rotor-bearing system, resonances occurred and the transient responses of the rotor were amplified.

  • Use of bone marrow aspirate (BMA) is a clinically advantageous cell therapeutic that bypasses the need for elaborate ex vivo cell culturing. However, a low level of bone marrow-mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) in the BMA and weak survival rate of these cells post-transplantation entails an insufficient efficacy in vivo. Moreover, stem cell activity in BMA is impaired by age or background diseases. Thus, in order to enrich the BM-MSC pool and improve cell survival, novel cell preconditioning technologies are required. In this study, it has been revealed that the pretreatment of repetitive electromagnetic stimulation (rEMS) is capable of enhancing fibroblastic colony-forming units and cell proliferation in the BM-MSCs, possibly via transient nitric oxide production and extracellular signal regulated kinase 1/2 activation. Notably, this effect was more apparent in stem cells isolated from older patients than from young patients. Furthermore, the rEMS-pretreated cells showed ~53% higher cell survival, compared with the untreated cells, after cell transplantation in mice with no signs of tumorigenesis. Collectively, transient rEMS preconditioning could be utilized to enhance the activity of stem cells and thus, application of rEMS preconditioning to stem cells isolated from older patients is expected to improve the therapeutic effect of stem cells.

  • An analysis method for obtaining transient response of electromagnetic pulse(EMP) coupled via a slot aperture into a parallel-plate waveguide, is considered. The mixed-potential integral equation(MPIE), in which the vector and scalar potential Green's functions for the unknown equivalent magnetic surface current of the aperture in parallel-plate region are expressed in closed forms derived by use of the improved complex image method, is formulated. When the method of moments(MoM) is used to solve the MPIE, the matrix-fill time is significantly reduced because of closed-form Green's functions. In order to check the validity of the present method, the numerical results obtained by the present method are compared with those obtained by the previous method. Fairly good agreements between them are observed.

  • The application of time-domain methods in emission measurement instruments allows for a reduction in scan time by several orders of magnitude and for new evaluation methods to be realized such as the real-time spectrogram to characterize transient emissions. In this paper two novel systems for time-domain EMI measurements above 1 GHz are presented. The first system combines ultra-fast analog-to-digital-conversion and real-time digital signal processing on a field-programmable-gate-array (FPGA) with ultra-broadband multi-stage down-conversion to enable measurements in the range from 10 Hz to 26 GHz with high sensitivity and full-compliance with the requirements of CISPR 16-1-1. The required IF bandwidths were added to allow for measurements according to MIL-461F and DO-160F. The second system realizes a system of time-interleaved analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and has an upper bandwidth limit of 4 GHz. With the implementation of an automatic mismatch calibration, the system fulfills CISPR 16-1-1 dynamic range requirements. Measurements of the radiated emissions of electronic consumer devices and household appliances like the non-stationary emissions of a microwave oven are presented. A measurement of a personal computer's conducted emissions on a power supply line according to DO-160F is given.

  • High-speed telecommunication systems are influenced by electromagnetic environments because they need a wide bandwidth to transmit signals. Immunity tests of telecommunication equipment are effective for improving its immunity to electromagnetic environments. However, immunity tests are expensive to carry out because there are several different tests. The correlation among the tests should therefore be examined in order to reduce the kinds of tests that are necessary. This paper investigates the correlation between the electrical fast transient/burst (EFTB) test and the radio frequency (RF) conductive immunity test. Imitation equipment was constructed with a balun, and a baseband signal was transmitted from the associated equipment to the imitation equipment. Then, disturbances were applied to the equipment, and the telecommunication quality was evaluated by using the bit error rate (BER). The results from the EFTB test indicated that the BER was less than $6{\times}10^{-5}$ and the value was independent of the peak value. The results from the RF conductive immunity test indicated that the BER was affected by the longitudinal conversion loss (LCL).

  • To comply with CE marking requirements, the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and low-voltage directive (LVD) tests are conducted on the sub-racks of International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) AC/DC converters and bypass switches. The EMC tests consist of a series of tests, including the electromagnetic interference test, the electromagnetic field immunity test, and the rapid transient burst immunity test. In the LVD test, the electric shock protection test, the xcessive temperature limit and heat resistance of equipment tests, and the fire spread prevention test are performed. This work presents and reviews the European Directive for EMC/LVD and introduces the methods of EMC and LVD tests for the sub-racks of AC/DC converters and bypass switches. It also evaluates the test method and results to meet the European Directive requirements for CE marking. The sub-racks of ITER AC/DC converters and bypass switches successfully pass the EMC and LVD tests.

  • Objective : Neuroendoscopy is applied to various intracranial pathologic conditions. But this technique needs informations for the anatomy, critically. Neuronavigation makes the operation more safe, exact and lesser invasive procedures. But classical neuronavigation systems with rigid pinning fixations were difficult to apply to pediatric populations because of their thin and immature skull. Electromagnetic neuronavigation has used in the very young patients because it does not need rigid pinning fixations. The usefulness of electromagnetic neuronavigation is described through our experiences of neuroendoscopy for pediatric groups and reviews for several literatures. Methods : Between January 2007 and July 2011, nine pediatric patients were managed with endoscopic surgery using electromagnetic neuronavigation (AxiEM, Medtronics, USA). The patients were 4.0 years of mean age (4 months-12 years) and consisted of 8 boys and 1 girl. Totally, 11 endoscopic procedures were performed. The cases involving surgical outcomes were reviewed. Results : The goal of surgery was achieved successfully at the time of surgery, as confirmed by postoperative imaging. In 2 patients, each patient underwent re-operations due to the aggravation of the previous lesion. And one had transient mild third nerve palsy due to intraoperative manipulation and the others had no surgery related complication. Conclusion : By using electromagnetic neuronavigation, neuroendoscopy was found to be a safe and effective technique. In conclusion, electromagnetic neuronavigation is a useful adjunct to neuroendoscopy in very young pediatric patients and an alternative to classical optical neuronavigation.
