  • Common mode (CM) chokes are a crucial part in EMI filters for mitigating the electromagnetic interference (EMI) of switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) and for meeting electromagnetic compatibility standards. However, the parasitic capacitances of a CM choke deteriorate its high frequency filtering performance, which results in increases in the design cycle and cost of EMI filters. Therefore, this paper introduces a negative capacitance generated by a negative impedance converter (NIC) to cancel the influence of equivalent parallel capacitance (EPC). In this paper, based on a CM choke equivalent circuit, the EPCs of CM choke windings are accurately calculated by measuring their impedance. The negative capacitance is designed quantitatively and the EPC cancellation mechanisms are analyzed. The impedance of the CM choke in parallel with negative capacitances is tested and compared with the original CM choke using an impedance analyzer. Moreover, a CL type CM filter is added to a fabricated NIC prototype, and the insertion loss of the prototype is measured to verify the cancellation effect. The prototype is applied to a power converter to test the CM conducted noise. Both small signal and EMI measurement results show that the proposed technique can effectively cancel the EPCs and improve the CM filter's high frequency filtering performance.

  • Ag-coated Cu dendrites were prepared as a filler for an electromagnetic interference shielding application. Ag layers on the Cu dendrites was coated by two approaches. One is a direct autocatalytic plating with a reducing agent. The other approach was achieved by two-step plating, a galvanic displacement reaction to form Ag seed layers on Cu following by an autocatalytic plating with a reducing agent. The procedure-dependent average particle size and tap density of Ag-coated Cu dendrites were characterized. The electrical resistance and electromagnetic interference shielding effect (EMI SE) were analyzed with the Ag-coated Cu dendrites prepared in the two approaches. Additionally, the content of the Ag coated on Cu dendrites was controlled from 2% to 20%. The electrical resistance and EMI SE were critically determined by Ag contents coated on Cu.

  • Remarkable developments in the electric and electronic industry have given people's daily life much more convenience and abundance. However, in electrical communication, or electric and electronic fields, making electrical and electronic devices more functional, more integrated, and faster have put electromagnetic interference(EMI) into more complex forms, and lots of problems such as interruption, malfunction, or interference by noise between electrical communication systems occurs every day. In this research, the electromagnetic compatibility(EMC) filter in the high powered breaker was designed and fabricated as a counter measure. The filter attenuated noise more than 20${\sim}$50 dB in the range of 10 MHz${\sim}$1.5 GHz. And, when the electric fast transient(EFT) of 4 kV in the level 4 of IEC 61000-4-4 was induced, it was soon suppressed to 600 V.

  • Recently, as the data speed and operating frequencies of Ethernet keeps increasing, electro magnetic interference (EMI) also becomes increasing. The generation of such EMI will cause malfunction of near electronic devices. In this study, EMI filters were applied to reduce the EMI generated by DC-DC SMPS (switching mode power supply), which is the main cause of EMI generation of Ethernet switch. As the EMI filter, MLCCs with excellent withstanding voltage characteristics were used, which had advantages in miniaturization and mass production. Two types of EMI MLCC filters were used, which are X-capacitor and X, Y-capacitor. X-capacitor was composed of 2 MLCCs with 10 nF and 100 nF capacity and 1 Mylar capacitor. Y-capacitor was consisted of 6 MLCCs with a capacity of 27 nF. When only X-capacitor was applied as EMI filter, the conductive EMI field strength exceeded the allowable limit in frequency range of 150 kHz ~ 30 MHz. The radiative EMI also showed high EMI strength and very small allowable margin at the specific frequencies. When the X and Y-capacitors were applied, the conductive EMI was greatly reduced, and the radiation EMI was also found to have sufficient margin. In addition, X, Y-capacitors showed very high insulation resistance and withstanding resistance performances. In conclusion, EMI X, Y-capacitors using MLCCs reduced the EMI noise effectively and showed excellent electrical reliability.

  • The effective way of estimation and analysis of EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) in Wireless Power Transfer System operating at 13.56 MHz is proposed. In this paper methodology of driving magnetic field strength and electric loop current of two antennas which are in free space and on PEC plane using image theory and duality is proposed. Perfect electric conductor(PEC) is planar, infinite in extent, and perfectly conducting plane. And we will refer it as PEC plane. A equivalent circuit model is used to analyze. Using this theoretical analysis, we can derive maximum magnetic field strength of the far-field region numerically using measured data of near-field maximum magnetic field strength. The experimental results using commercial numerical simulation tool are in agreement with the theoretical results. Also, using the derivation of maximum magnetic field strength in the far-field region, we can easily estimate the maximum allowable power dissipation that meets EMI regulations.

  • Tilting train has been developed to increase the operational speed of the trains on conventional lines which have many curves. This train are tilted at curves to compensate for unbalanced carbody centrifugal acceleration to a greater extent than compensation produced by the track cant so that passengers do not feel centrifugal acceleration and thus trains can run at higher speed at curves. This paper developed tilting train to evaluate electromagnetic interference(EMI) performance of TTX(tilting train express) with maximum operation speed 160 km/h on Ho_nam Conventional Rail[1].

  • In this paper, a new passive lossless snubber circuit with energy transfer capability is proposed. The proposed lossless snubber circuit provides Zero-Current Switching (ZCS) condition for turn-on instants and Zero-Voltage Switching (ZVS) condition for turn-off instants. In addition, its diodes operate under soft switching condition. Therefore, no significant switching losses occur in the converter. Since the energy of the snubber circuit is transferred to the output, there are no significant conduction losses. The proposed snubber circuit can be applied on isolated and non-isolated converters. To verify the operation of the snubber circuit, a boost converter using the proposed snubber is implemented at 70W. Also, the measured conducted Efficiency Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) of the proposed boost converter and conventional ones are presented which show the effects of proposed snubber on EMI reduction. The experimental results confirm the presented theoretical analysis.

  • A novel energy harvesting technique that uses conducted electromagnetic interference as an energy source is presented. Conducted EMI generated from fluorescent light using a switched-mode power supply was measured and modeled as an equivalent voltage source. Two types of rectifier circuits-a bridge rectifier and a voltage doubler-were used as the harvesting devices for conducted EMI source. The matching networks were designed based on the equivalent model, and the harvested power was improved. The implemented energy harvester produces a regulated power over 68.9 mW and current over 15.1 mA while a regulated voltage can be selected between 3.3 V and 5 V. The proposed system shows the highest harvesting power indoor environment and can provide enough power for the Internet of Things devices.

  • This paper presents the classical site attenuation characteristics of a forced resonant electromagnetic interference (EMI) dipole antenna for frequencies below 80 MHz. The coupled integral equations for unknown current distribution are solved by the Galerkin's method of moments with piecewise sinusoidal functions. The results show that the forced resonant type EMI dipole antenna for frequencies below 80 MHz can be used effectively for measuring the classical site attenuation of horizontal polarization. The theoretical site attenuation curves presented can be used as reference curves for evaluating the performance of an open area test site.
