Electro-deposition of carbon film on silicon substrate in methanol solution was carried out with various current density, solution temperature and electrode spacing between anode and cathode. The carbon films with smooth surface morphology and high electrical resistance were formed when the distance between electrode was relatively wider. The electrical resistance of the carbon films were independent of both current density and solution temperature.

Effect of electrode spacing on the performance of microbial electrolysis cells(MECs) for treating sewage sludge was investigated through lab scale experiment. The reactors were equipped with two pairs of electrodes that have a different electrode spacing (16, 32 mm). Shorter electrode distance improved the overall performance of MEC system. With the 16 mm of electrode distance, the current density was $3.04{\sim}3.74A/m^3$ and methane production was $0.616{\sim}0.804Nm^3/m^3$, which were higher than those obtained with 32 mm of electrode spacing ($1.50{\sim}1.82A/m^3$, $0.529{\sim}0.664Nm^3/m^3$). The COD removal was in the range of 34~40%, and the VSS reduction ranged 32~38%. As the current production increased, VSS reduction and methane production were increased possibly due to the improved bioelectrochemical performance of the system. Methane production was more affected by current density than VSS reduction. These results imply that the reducing the electrode spacing can enhance the methane production and recovery from sewage sludge with the decreased internal resistance, however, it was not able to improve VSS reduction of sewage sludge.

Electrical resistivity survey have been widely conducted at diverse scales, from a few centimeters for laboratory tests to kilometers for field tests. It measures electrical resistance through relationship of electric potential difference and current between two electrodes penetrated on the surface of medium, and eventually quantifies electrical resistivity known as inherent properties of the medium. In field or full-scale test, it assumes the electrodes as equivalent half-sphere electrodes that have a same surface area with different electrodes for ease of calculation because the contact area between electrode and medium is small and sufficient distance between two electrodes. However, small-scale laboratory test is significantly affected by the electrode geometries (penetrated depth, height, radius of electrode and distance between electrodes), which change the equipotential surface and electric current flow. Indeed, the electrode geometries may eventually cause a difference of electrical resistivity value. This study reviews the theoretical electrical resistance derived with various electrode geometries (half-sphere, cylinder, cylindrical with half-spherical tip, cylindrical with conical tip) and verifies the developed numerical module by comparing results with the theoretical electrical resistance. The distributions of electrical resistance around electrodes and among electrodes are analyzed. In addition, it is discussed how the electrical characteristic of cylindrical electrode with conical tip widely used in field test has effect on the electric current flow.

In this paper, the microwave characteristics of traveling-wave electroabsorption coplanar waveguide modulator have been analyzed and optimized precisely by using the 3-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD). Microwave characteristics are affected by the thickness of intrinsic layer, the width of meas, and the distance between signal electrode and ground electrode on traveling-wave type structure. In case that intrinsic layers are composed of InAsP/InGaP (1.3Q), the optimized distance between signal electrode and ground electrode, the optimized intrinsic region thickness and the width of waveguide are founded to be $3{\mu}m,\;039{\mu}m\;and\;2{\mu}m$, respectively, to minimize microwave loss and to obtain velocity and impedance matched structure. By using the FDTD, we could design the traveling-wave electroabsorption modulator more precisely.
Air pollutants, phenol was generated in case of thermal regeneration of used activated carbon loaded with phenol and because of this problem, removal process of phenol were studied. Electrolytic oxidation of samples, used S.company granular activated carbon (WS-GAC), used C.company granular activated carbon (WC-GAC) and used L.company granular activated carbon (WL-GAC) loaded with phenol carried out by potentiostatic method in this study. In case of experiment was to come into operation in condition of samples containing 100 mg/g phenol, supporting electrolyte was 1.0% sodium chloride solution, Ti-Ir (10$\times$10$\textrm{cm}^2$) electrode and electrode distance was 2 cm, current density was $1.25 A/dm^2$, Obtained from the results of electrolytic oxidation experiments were not detected residual phenol. And then we knew about reaction time of electrolytic oxidation, current density, concentration of supporting electrolyte and electrode and electrode distance were 60 minutes, 1.25 A/dm$^2$, 1.0%, 2 cm.

Wearable physiological signal monitoring systems are regarded as an important sensing unit platforms in ubiquitous/mobile healthcare application. In this paper, we suggested the modified bipolar electrodes implemented on the portable heart activity monitoring system, which minimized the distance of electrodes formed on a attachable pad. The proposed electrode configuration is useful in mobile measurement environments, but has a disadvantage of reduced amplitude of the heart action potential. In order to overcome the shortcoming of the suggested electrode configuration, we implemented the amplifying circuit to increase the signal-gain and decrease the artifacts. For evaluations, we analyzed the specificity of measured cardiography using the proposed electrodes through the comparing of heart activity monitoring system with standard clinical ECG(lead2) by pearson correlation coefficients. The result showed that the average correlation coefficient is $0.903{\pm}0.036,\;0.873{\pm}0.072$ at V3, V4 chest lead position, respectively. Thus, the modified bipolar electrode is quite suitable to monitor the electrical activity of the heart in the situation of the mobile environment, and could be considered having high similarity with standard clinical ECG.
Purpose: This study aimed to assess defibrillator pad positioning by the general public and healthcare providers during basic life support (BLS) renewal education (RE). Methods: A total 130 subjects performed defibrillation using an automated external defibrillator (AED) equipped with electrode pads developed by the researchers and male resuscitation manikins, in order to assess electrode pad placement (EPP) before BLS RE. Subjects included 54 Healthcare providers (HP) and 76 members of the general public (GP). Results: The apex EPP was positioned in the risk area (RA), more than 5 cm distant from the area recommended, by 63.2% of the GP (n = 48). The apex EPP was positioned in the RA by 44.4% of the HP (n = 23). The distance from the apex (GP $5.27{\pm}2.21cm$, HP $4.18{\pm}1.71cm$) was statistically significant, using Student's t-test. Conclusion: For both GP and HP, apex EPP was significantly in error. Thus, to prevent defibrillation failures, EPP education and practice for GP and HP in all BLS education programs should be improved, and incorrect Korean cardiopulmonary resuscitation guidelines and related literature should be revised and corrected.

A transflective liquid crystal displays associated with fringe field switching (FFS) mode of new concept is proposed. The device utilizes unique characteristic of the FFS mode in which the rotation angle of LC director is strongly dependent on electrode position in on state. We use the liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy. Also we are look for optimized electrode size and the optimization of pixel electrode width and distance between them, the LC director could rotate about $22.5^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ depending on electrode positions. Consequently, we get high transmittance and high reflection on the optimized electrode condition. Respectively, a high image quality transflective display with single gap and single gamma characteristics realized.

Electrochemical measurement using a LSCF6428 electrode was performed to estimate the oxygen potential gradient in the electrode layer and a long time stability test was performed by applied potential to learn the overpotential effect on the LSCF6428 electrode. By fitting the observed impedance spectra, it was obtained that the amount of faradic current decreased with distance from cathode/electrolyte interface. Oxygen potential gradient was estimated to occur within 1 um region from the cathode/electrolyte interface at an oxygen partial pressure of 10-1 bar. The segregation of cation rich phases in the LSCF6428 electrode suggests that kinetic decomposition took place. However, impedance response after applying the potential showed no changes in the electrode compared with before applying potential. The obtained results suggest that segregation of a secondary phase in a LSCF6428 cathode is not related to performance degradation for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs).
