  • Due to various types of Zn coatings for many decades for various applications, it is imperative to study and compare their corrosion resistance properties of some of these. Here, we introduce a systematic methodology for evaluation and validation of corrosion protection properties of metallic coatings. According to this methodology, samples are were exposed in an advanced cyclic corrosion test chamber according to ISO 14993, and removed at the end of each withdrawal for respective corrosion and electrochemical characterization to evaluate both barrier and galvanic protection properties. Corrosion protection properties of coatings were evaluated by visual examination according to ISO 10289, mass loss and subsequent corrosion rate measurements, electrochemical properties, and advanced electrochemical scanning techniques. In this study, corrosion protection properties of a commercial zinc rich coating (ZRC) on AISI 1020 mild steel substrates were evaluated and benchmarked against hot dip galvanized (HDG). Results were correlated, and corrosion protection capabilities of the two coatings were compared. The zinc rich coating performed better than hot dip galvanized coating in terms of overall corrosion protection properties, according to the exposure and experimental conditions used in this study. It proved to be a suitable candidate to replace hot dip galvanized coatings for desired applications.

  • Recently burr technology is rising in the fields of the precision manufacturing and the high quality machining, deburring has treated as a difficult problem on going to the high efficiency, automation in the FMS. Removal of burr with various shapes, dimensions and properties couldn't be standardized and has depended on manual treatment. Especially, deburring for cross hole inside owing to passing through out perpendicular to a main hole is more difficult, the electrochemical method is proper as its solution at practical aspects. Burr elimination in the cross hole drilling of governor shaft used in the automobile engine so far has been worked by a manual post-processing by a skillful worker, which becomes a factor of productivity-down and cost-up so that improvement of machining process is needed. Therefore, for the high efficiency and automation of internal deburring in the cross hole, development of electrochemical deburring technology is needed. So, the new process in the burr treatment is supposed. In this study, characteristics of electrochemical deburring through experiments were identified and factors such as electrolytic gap and electorlytic fluid contributed to removal burr height were analyzed. Also, deburring efficiency and electrolytic performance for cross hole were examined according to electrolytic current and electrochemical deburring condition corresponding to acquired edge quality was found out.

  • Denitrification from aqueous solution was investigated through patent analysis and electrochemical denitrification experiment. Among several candidates, biological treatment and oxidation/reduction method are mainly discussed. Recently, patent pending concerning to electrochemical treatment is increasing. Based on basic electrochemical study, total nitrogen was removed up 47% by 1-hour galvanostatic electrolysis with Fe cathode and Pt anode. More applicable technique to industry could be mentioned combination of two or more technologies suitable to waste water characteristics. In the case of small and concentrate effluent, combination of chemical and electrochemical treatment would be recommendable because nitrate could be easily converted to nitrite by chemical treatment, and in that case denitrification by electrolysis becomes more efficient and metal ions from chemical treatment can be recovered during electrolysis.

  • In this study, it was aimed to evaluate direct oxidation of aqueous solution containing cefalexin antibiotic with new generation Sn/Sb/Ni: 500/8/1 anode. The fact that there is no such a study on treatment of cefalexin with these new anode made this study unique. According to the operating parameters evaluation COD graphs showed clearer results compared to TOC and CLX and thus, it was it was chosen as major parameter. Furthermore, pseudo-first degree kd values were calculated from CLX results to show more accurate and specific results. Experimental results showed that after 60 min of electrochemical oxidation, complete removal of COD and TOC was accomplished with 750 mg L-1 KCl, at pH 7, 50 mA cm-2 current density and 1 cm anode-cathode distance. Also, the stability of the Sn/Sb/Ni anode was evaluated by taking SEM and AFM images and XRD analysis before and after of electrochemical oxidation processes. According to the results, it was not occurred too much change on the anode surface even after 300 h of electrolysis. Thus, it was thought that the anode material was not corroded to a large extent. Furthermore, the removal efficiencies were very high for almost all the time and conditions. According to the results of the study, electrochemical oxidation with new generation Sn/Sb/Ni anodes for the removal of cefalexin antibiotic was found very successful and applicable due to require less reaction time complete mineralization and doesn't require pH adjustment step compared to other studies in literature. In future studies, different antibiotic types should be studied with this anode and maybe with real wastewaters to test applicability of the process in treatment of pharmaceutical wastewaters containing antibiotics, in a better way.

  • Li metal is accepted as a good counter electrode for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) as the active material in Li-ion and Li-ion polymer batteries. We examined the existence of signal noise from a Li-metal counter quantitatively as a preliminary study. We suggest an electrochemical cell with one switchable electrode to obtain the exact impedance signal of active materials. To verify the effectiveness of the switchable electrode, EIS measurements of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) before severe $Li^+$ intercalation to SFG6 graphite (at > ca. 0.25 V vs. Li/$Li^+$) were taken. As a result, the EIS spectra without the signal of Li metal were obtained and analyzed successfully for the following parameters i) $Li^+$ conduction in the electrolyte, ii) the geometric resistance and constant phase element of the electrode (insensitive to the voltage), iii) the interfacial behavior of the SEI related to the $Li^+$ transfer and residence throughout the near-surface (sensitive to voltage), and iv) the term reflecting the differential limiting capacitance of $Li^+$ in the graphite lattice.

  • In this study, we present a more electrochemically enhanced electrode using activated carbon (AC)-sulfur (S) composite materials, which have high current density. The morphological and micro-structure properties were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Quantity of sulfur was measured by thermogravimetric analysis analysis. The electrochemical behaviors were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. As a trapping carbon structure, AC could provide a porous structure for containing sulfur. We were able to confirm that the AC-S composite electrode had superior electrochemical activity.

  • In this study we investigate catalytic activity and selectivity of mixture of Ag and ketjenblack according to their ratios by product analysis and electrochemical experiments, such as cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry and chronoamperometry. We reveal that catalytic activity toward CO2 reduction to CO is improved by simple mixing Ag nanoparticle and ketjenblack because addition of ketjenblack suppresses aggregation of Ag nanoparticles and brings increase in electrochemical active surface area. However, excess amount of ketjenblack rather inhibit the CO2 reduction to CO. These observations provide clues to develop highly active Ag catalyst or electrode toward electrochemical reduction of CO2.

  • In this study, we prepared the activated graphite nanofibers (A-GNFs) via chemical activation with KOH reagent. The effect of A-GNFs on the surface and textural properties of Ni-loaded graphite nanofibers (Ni/GNFs) was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). The textural properties of samples were investigated by $N_2$/77K adsorption isotherms. The electrochemical performances were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. As a results, the electrochemical performances of Ni/GNFs were improved with usage of A-GNFs. This could be interpreted by the high specific surface area and large total pore volume of the A-GNFs.
