In order to examine the effect of humidity on hydrogen embrittlement of STS 444 weld zone for boiler with dry and wet welding conditions, this paper was carried out the accelerated hydrogen osmosis test and the electrochemical Tafel polarization test. In 0.5M $H_2SO_4$ + 0.01M $As_20_3$ solution, this test is added to load of $1400kg/cm^2$ together with hydrogen osmosis by current of $50 {mA/cm^2}$ for 60 min.. The electrochemical Tafel polarization test was carried out in 0.5M $H_2SO_4$ + 0.01M $As_20_3$ solution. Therefore, the effect of humidity on hydrogen embrittlement of STS 444 was considered. The main results are as following: On the basis of hydrogen embrittlement mechanism, that is, integrated electrochemical polarization characteristics with the established mechanism of hydrogen embrittlement, the reduction rate of corrosion current density of weld zone in the wet weld condition is larger than in the dry condition. We can nondestructively predict the degree of hydrogen embrittlement of STS 444 weld zone for boiler through the reduction rate of electrochemical corrosion current density.
Spinel ferrites (NixFe3-xO4; x = 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0) have been prepared at 550℃ by egg white auto-combustion route using egg white at 550℃ and characterized by physicochemical (TGA, IR, XRD, and SEM) and electrochemical (CV and Tafel polarization) techniques. The presence of characteristic vibration peaks in FT-IR and reflection planes in XRD spectra confirmed the formation of spinel ferrites. The prepared oxides were transformed into oxide film on glassy carbon electrodes by coating oxide powder ink using the nafion solution and investigated their electrocatalytic performance for OER in an alkaline solution. The cyclic voltammograms of the oxide electrode did not show any redox peaks in oxygen overpotential regions. The iR-free Tafel polarization curves exhibited two Tafel slopes (b1 = 59-90 mV decade-1 and b2 = 92-124 mV decade-1) in lower and higher over potential regions, respectively. Ni-substitution in oxide matrix significantly improved the electrocatalytic activity for oxygen evolution reaction. Based on the current density for OER, the 0.75 mol Ni-substituted oxide electrode was found to be the most active electrode among the prepared oxides and showed the highest value of apparent current density (~9 mA cm-2 at 0.85 V) and lowest Tafel slope (59 mV decade-1). The OER on oxide electrodes occurred via the formation of chemisorbed intermediate on the active sites of the oxide electrode and follow the second-order mechanism.
Fuel cells of proton exchange membrane type (PEMFC) working with hydrogen in the anode and ambient air in the cathode ('air breathing') have been prepared and characterized. The cells have been studied with variable thickness of the cathode catalyst layer ($L_{CL}$), maintaining constant the platinum and ionomer loads. Polarization curves and electrochemical active area measurements have been carried out. The polarization curves are analyzed in terms of a model for a flooded passive air breathing cathode. The analysis shows that $L_{CL}$ affects to electrochemical kinetics and mass transport processes inside the electrode, as reflected by two parameters of the polarization curves: the Tafel slope and the internal resistance. The observed decrease in Tafel slope with decreasing $L_{CL}$ shows improvements in the oxygen reduction kinetics which we attribute to changes in the catalyst layer structure. A decrease in the internal resistance with $L_{CL}$ is attributed to lower protonic resistance of thinner catalyst layers, although the observed decrease is lower than expected probably because the electronic conduction starts to be hindered by more hydrophilic character and thicker ionomer film.
Recently European Council(EU) published the RoHS(restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment) which is prohibit the use of Pb, Hg, Cd, $Cr^{+6}$, PBB or PBDE in the electrical and electronic equipments. So EU member States shall ensure that, from 1 July 2006, new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market does not contain 6 hazardous substances. The one of the most important in electronics manufacturing process is soldering. Soldering process use the chemical substances which are applied in fluxing and cleaning processes and it can generate the malfunction of electronics caused by corrosion in the fields conditions. Therefore this study researched on the polarization and Tafel properties of Sn40Pb and Sn3.0Ag0.5Cu(SAC) solder based on the electrochemical theory. We prepared SnPb specimens which was aged in $150^{\circ}C,\;180^{\circ}C$ for 15 minutes ana Sn3.0Ag0.5Cu specimens that was aged in $180^{\circ}C,\;220^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes. Experimental polarization curves were measured in distilled ionized water and $3.5 wt\%$, 1 mole NaCl electrolyte of $40^{\circ}C$, pH 7.5. Ag/AgCl and graphite were utilized by reference and counter electrode, respectively. To observe the electrochemical reaction, polarization test was conducted from -250 mV to +250 mV. From the polarization curves that were composed of anodic and cathodic curves, we obtained Tafel slop, reversible electrode potential(Ecorr) and exchange current density(Icorr). In these results, corrosion rate for two specimen were compared Sn3.0Ag0.5Cu with SnPb solders
In this paper, the characteristics of a cavitation-erosion damage behavior on the STS 304 and hot-dip aluminized STS 304 under cavitation environment in sea water solution was investigated. The electrochemical experiments were carried out by potential measurement, anodic/cathodic polarization test, Tafel analysis, and also galvanostatic experiment in current density variables for the samples. The apparatus of cavitation-electrochemical experiment was manufactured in compliance with modified ASTM G-32 standard, with the conditions of sea water temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ and the measurement, amplitude of $30{\mu}m$. The damage behavior was analyzed by an observation of surface mophologies and a measurement of damage depth by a scanning electron microscope(SEM) and a 3D microscope, respectively, after electrochemical test. After polarization experiment under cavitation environment, much higher damage depths for the hot-dip aluminized STS 304 were observed comparing to the untreated STS 304. In addition, higher corrosion current density in hot-dip aluminized STS 304 presented than that of untreated STS 304 as a result of Tafel analysis.
In the study, it was carried out dissimilar metal welding on materials for Al ship. The electrochemical and mechanical characteristics evaluated for specimen welded by ROBOT. The hardness of welding zone is lower than those of heat affected zone and base metal. At the result of tensile test, the specimen welded with ER5183 welding material presented excellent property compared with ER5556. The polarization trend for the base metal and welding metal showed the effects of concentration polarization due to oxygen reduction and activation polarization due to hydrogen generation. At the Tafel experiments result, the corrosion density in welded with ER5183 welding material presented the lowest value.
It is inclined to increase that use of hazardous substances such as lead(Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium(Cd) etc. are prohibited in the electronics according to environmental friendly policies of an advanced nation for protecting environment of earth. As this reasons, many researches for ensuring the reliability were proceeding in Pb free soldering process. n the flux remains on the PCB(printed circuit board) in the soldering process or the electronics exposed to corrosive environment, it becomes the reasons of breakdown or malfunction of the electronics caused by corrosion. Therefore in this studies we researched the polarization and Tafel properties of Sn40Pb and SnCu system solders based on the electrochemical theory. The experimental polarization curves were measured in distilled ionized water and 1 mole $3.5 wt\%$ NaCl electrolyte of $40^{\circ}C$, pH 7.5. Ag/AgCl and graphite were utilized by reference and counter electrodes, respectively. To observe the electrochemical reaction, polarization test was conducted from -250mV to +250mV. From the polarization curves composed of anodic and cathodic curves, we obtained Tafel slop, reversible electrode potential(Ecorr) and exchange current density((cow). In these results, we compared the corrosion rate of SnPb and SnCu solders.

Corrosion of reinforced concrete embedded in concrete is a deterioration phenomenon due to intrusion of embodied or Airborne chloride ions. Corrosion of a embedded steel increases the volume of the rebar and causes damage to the structure such as cracking and peeling of the concrete. This causes penetration of various corrosive factors and accelerates the corrosion of reinforcing bars, which has a serious effect on the durability of the structure. Researches on the corrosion phenomenon of these rebars by electrochemical methods have been carried out for a long time, but it is a lack of research in Korea. Therefore, in this study, one of electrochemical experimental methods, Tafel extrapolation method, was used to evaluate the performance of reinforcing bars according to the amount of NaCl and LiNO2 added to concrete.
Stainless steel has poor corrosion resistance in marine environment due to the breakdown of a passive film caused by chloride. It suffers electrochemical corrosion like pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion crack (SCC) in marine environment. In general, it indicates that the passive film of $Al_2O_3$ has better corrosion resistance than that of $Cr_2O_3$ in seawater. This paper investigated the damage behavior 304 stainless steel and hot-dip aluminized 304 stainless steel in seawater solution. Various electrochemical experiments were carried out including potential measurement, potentiodynaimic experiment, Tafel analysis and galvanostatic experiment. As a result of anodic polarization experiment, higher pitting damage depth was indicated at 304 stainless steel than hot-dip aluminized 304 stainless steel. In addition, relatively higher corrosion current density was shown at hot-dip aluminized stainless steel as a result of Tafel analysis.
