Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report clinical effect of oriental meical for a not improved foot drop patient after herniated intervertebral lumbar disc surgery. Methods : The patient was treated using acupuncture, electroacupuncture, phamacopuncture treatment, herbal medication, moxibustion and physical treatment. And we measured of VAS, ROM of ankle and MMT. Results : After treatment, VAS, ROM of ankle and MMT were improved in case. Conclusions : Oriental medical treatment showed significant effect on patient that not improved foot drop after herniated intervertebral lumbar disc surgery.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean Medicine treatment on a patient with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Methods : A 60-year-old woman who was diagnosed as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease was admitted with both lower and upper limbs weakness, difficulty in walking, palm pain and neck pain. The patient was treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping therapy and physical treatment from 2th September 2013 to 14th November 2013. Improvement of the patient's symptoms was evaluated by numeric rating scale(NRS), visual analog scale(VAS), SF-36 bodily pain and patient global assessment(PGA). Results : After treatment, pain Intensity evaluated by VAS was significantly decreased(from 7.2 to 2). Increased SF-36 bodily pain score(from 10 to 67.5) showed that patient's quality of life has been improved. Conclusions : These results suggest that Korean medicine treatment may be effective in reducing the symptoms of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

Introduction: We report a rare case in which the symptoms of hypersomnia were caused by cerebral infarction that occurred in the hypothalamus and hypothalamus. Case Presentation: The patient underwent Korean medicine treatments using Gami-seonghyangjeonggi-san, acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and physical therapy for 37 days. We evaluated the degree of improvement in hypersomnolence based on the amount of sleeping time and the degree of memory impairment with the patient's suggestive conditions as observed by the patient's guardian, and one-sided facial palsy using the Yanagihara Scale. As treatment was applied, sleeping time was decreased from 22 to 9 hours a day. Memory impairment did not show clear improvements as the patient could not recognize others when they visited during the period in which the patient underwent treatment. One-sided facial palsy showed no improvements and there were no changes in the Yanagihara Scale results. Conclusion: This case showed that Korean medicine treatment could be effective to relieve some of the symptoms of thalamus and hypothalamus infarction. Further research is needed to confirm the effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment.

Objectives : This study was performed to research trends in Korean medicine treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods : We reviewed 73 studies about diabetes mellitus, which had been published from 2008 to 2013. The article search was performed on the Korean institute of oriental medicine (KIOM) database. Results : 1. Patterns of study design were as follows : 14 review studies, 44 experimental studies, 7 clinical studies, 8 case reports. 2. From the 14 review studies, we noted that literature studies about definition, pathologic mechanism, treatment, pathologic pattern identification of DM and previous study analyses were done. 3. From the 44 experimental studies that are the most common type of DM studies, various Korean medicine treatments such as single medicinal herbs, herbal complexes, diets and pharmacopuncture were used. Anti-diabetic effects were demonstrated in most of the studies. 4. 7 clinical studies about acupuncture, electroacupuncture, herbal medicine, etc. were reported. 5. 8 cases about DM complications and comorbidities were reported. Clinical symptoms improved in all of studies, blood sugar level decreased in four studies. Conclusions : Further clinical and case study based on experimental researches should be performed.

Objectives : The purpose of this case is to report the improvement after treatment about a patient with meralgia paresthetica. Methods : We treated the patient with acupucture therapy, cupping therapy, electroacupuncture therapy, percutaneous radiofrequency thermoablation and myofascial release technique by Turbo SASO from $26^{th}$ June 2015 to $3^{rd}$ July 2015 by evaluating femoral function with VAS score. Results : After 5 times of treatment, this patient achieved excellent outcome following the technique, showing that clinical symptom as able to walked and pain was disappeared, VAS changed from 10 to 3 and the result of patrick test came out negative. Conclusions : The various symptoms appear in the Meralgia paresthetica such as numbness, paresthesia, and pain in the anterolateral thigh, which may result from either an entrapment neuropathy or a neuroma of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve(LFCN). Oriental medical treatment for meralgia paresthetica resulted in satisfactory results by diminishing the symptoms progressively during the five days of treatment. Differential diagnosis was based on careful physical examination. More research of meralgia paresthetica is needed.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to report the improvement of complex Korean Medicine treatment for patients with rotator cuff injuries and determine the clinical improvement by number of damaged lesion. Methods Forty-one patients who diagnosed with rotator cuff injury were included in the retrospective study. Patients were treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture and pharmacopuncture. Clinical outcomes were assessed using Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Shoulder Pain and Disablity Index (SPADI) and EuroQol-5 Dimension Index (EQ-5D Index). Results Both NRS and SPADI scores were significantly reduced after treatment (p<0.01), but EQ-5D for assessing quality of life and clinical improvement by number of damaged lesion were no significant improvement (p>0.05). Conclusions These results show that patients with rotator cuff injuries could gain improvement from complex Korean Medicine. Further research is required to confirm the effectiveness of Korean Medicine treatment.

Electroacupuncture is the combined treatment of mechanical and electric stimuli on the needle head, on which electricity runs after acupuncturing at the acupuncture points. It is reported that its treatment effect depends on the parameter of stimulus, which is wave of stimulus, frequency, voltage, and duration of electric current. To get the effective treatment, stimulus intensity over threshold is needed. We planned to experiment whether acupuncture effect is affected by sex, age, and weight. After we conducted electric stimulus at Zusanli(ST 36) which is known to increase small intestinal motility in normal rats, we observed the effects and got the following results. Though the increased effects of small intestinal motility of electro-acupuncture at Zusanli(ST 36) did not show the difference of sex, this effect was observed to have a tendency to decrease according to weight increase without distinction of sex. But the effect of electro-acupuncture shown in 4, 5, 7 weeks old without distinction of sex was observed to have a tendency to decrease with the growing of weeks-old in the male rat group. And the significant change without specific tendency was observed in the 4, 5 weeks old female rat group. This result suggested that sex, weight, and age should be considered to get the efficient electro-acupuncture. The more experimental study should be advanced to investigate the correlation between the factors that can affect the acupuncture treatment, and, afterward, the interconnection into the clinical use.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to report a case in which a patient showed recovery from hemiparesis after a head injury. Methods: A 60-year-old woman who suffered a head injury received Korean medicine treatment, including herbal decoctions, acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and physical treatment for 32 days. The response before and after treatment was evaluated using the Manual Muscle Test, the Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index, and walking status. Results: After treatment, the range of the Manual Muscle Test grades of her left lower extremity increased from 1-3 to 2-4. Her score on the Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index improved from 60 to 90. The patient, who was in a wheelchair at the time of admission, walked with a cane upon discharge. Conclusion: This study suggests that intervention with Korean medicine could be one of the therapeutic options for improving hemiparesis after head injury.

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of urinary incontinence treatment using catgut embedding therapy. Methods: Using electronic databases including Pubmed, EMBASE, and CAJ, we looked for randomized controlled trials that treated urinary incontinence with catgut embedding that were published between January 2000 and December 2023. The chosen clinical studies' interventions and outcomes were examined. Results: Ultimately, eight randomized controlled trials met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Treatment group was treated with catgut embedding alone in 3 studies, and with Biofeedback Electrical Stimulation Therapy (Biofeedback EST), Kegel exercises, Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture Injection in 5 studies. Control group was treated with Biofeedback EST, Kegel exercises, Herbal Medicine, Vitamin B, Electroacupuncture (EA), Denitine Tolterodine Tartrat with Bladder Drill, Tension-free Vaginal Tape Obturator (TVT-O) and Acupoint Injection Therapy. Outcome measures are total efficacy rate, Urine pad test, Urinary frequency, Maximum bladder capacity, VRP, POP-Q, etc. 關元 (CV4) was the most frequently used acupoint in catgut embedding therapy. In all of 8 studies, treatment group was more effective for urinary incontinence than the control group. Conclusions: According to this study, catgut embedding may be useful in enhancing the therapeutic outcome for urine incontinence, either by itself or in conjunction with standard medical treatment.

간질성 방광염이란 성인여성에게 생기는 질환으로 일종의 근육에 생긴 염증이며 미국에서는 아주 흔한 질환이나 국내에서는 그 동안 진단기준이 없어 단순한 방광염으로 오인 되어왔다. 증상은 일반적인 방광염과 비슷하나 너무 자주 재발하고 잘 낫지 않으며 방광용적의 감소로 빈뇨와 급뇨, 하복부와 회음부의 통증이 흔하고 방광을 비우면 증상은 호전되는 양상을 보인다. 진단을 확진할 정확한 검사가 없기 때문에 반드시 다른 질환이 없슴을 증명하여야 한다. 즉 방광염을 일으키는 원인들인 요로 감염, 골반염, 결핵, 결석, 성병, 전립선염, 방광암 등이 없이 빈뇨와 소변을 참지 못하고 하복통이 있을 때 일단 의심을 하고 방광내시경상에 방광 벽의 염증이나 점상성 출혈, 궤양이 있으면 확진한다. 양방에서는 한가지 완벽한 치료가 없어 여러 가지 복합적인 치료를 하며 일차적으로는 약물요법과 방광확장술을 시도한다. 먹는 약으로는 아직 공인된 것은 없으며 이 약들은 증상의 호전은 기대할 수 있으나 일시적인 경우가 많으며 결국은 방광확장술을 추가하는 경우가 대부분이다. 이에 이 질환을 갖고 있는 여자 환자에게 침 치료를 시행한 결과 주관적인 통증과 급박감에 있어서 감소와 객관적인 소변 횟수의 감소에 있어 만족할 만한 효과를 얻었기에 보고하는 바이다.
