평행평판의 전극형상에 따른 ER 유체의 유동특성 I (The Flow Characteristics of ER Fluids According to the Electrode Shape of Two Parallel-Plate)

  • Electro-Rheological(ER) fluid are suspensions which show an abrupt increase in rheological properties under electric fields. ER effects arise from electrostatic forces between the starch particles dispersed in the electrically insulating silicone oil, induced when an electric field is applied. Yield stress of the fluids were measured on the couette cell type rheometer as a function of electric fields. This paper presents performance analyses of four types of the two parallel-plate. Which have different electrode length and width but same electrode area. On the basis of the pressure drop and flow rate analysis. Four types of the two parallel-plate are designed and manufactured. Using ER fluid, it is possible to directly interface between electric signals and fluid power without moving parts.

마이크로 밀링 EDM 머신 개발 및 가공특성 분석 (Development of Micro Milling EDM and Analysis of Machined Characteristics)

  • Micromachining is gaining popularity due to recent advancements in MEMS(Micro Electro Mechanical Systems). Using conventional micromachining, it is relatively difficult to produce moving components in the order of microns. Photolithography for silicon material has high accuracy machining, but it has low aspect ratio. X-ray lithography has ultra high accuracy machining, but it has expensive cost. Micro-EDM(electro discharge machining) has been gaining popularity as a new alternative method to fabricate micro-structures. In this study, Micro-EDM machine is developed available for fabricate micro-structures and two processes such as side cut EDM and milling EDM is proposed. Several sets of experiment results have been performed to study the characteristics of the machining process.

로봇청소기용 BLDC 모터 (BLDC Motors for Robot Vacuum Cleaners)

  • This paper is presented for robot vacuum cleaners using BLDC motors. Recently, BLDC motors which require smaller size, lower sound noise and higher efficiency have been placed in high value-added products including robot vacuum cleaners, vehicle cars and other industry applications. The DC motors have higher sound noise, higher height of the size and lower efficiency due to electro-magnetic structure using the brushes and the commutators. The proposed BLDC motors are appropriate for the motors adequate in regards to higher efficiency, longer life cycle time, and smaller height of the size when robot vacuum cleaners go to some lower height of the space like under sleeping beds and because it's power source is batteries. The paper shows the performance of the BLDC motors designed by the Finite Element Analysis(FEA) of the electro-magnetic field. This paper shows the mechanical structure and the prototype of the motor with the impeller. The performance characteristics of the BLDC motors with the hall sensor controller are verified by the experimental results.

부임피던스 변환회로를 이용한 두께 모드 압전 진동자의 특성제어 (Characteristics Control of a Thickness Mode Piezoelectric Vibrator Using a Negative Impedance Converter Circuit)

  • 본 연구에서는 두께 모드 압전 진동자의 특성제어 부임피던스 변환 (NIC) 회로를 적용하였다. 두 개의 두께 모드 압전 진동자를 적층한 후, NIC 회로를 적용하여 입력 어드미턴스와 전기기계 변환효율을 측정한 결과를 시뮬레이션 결과와 비교하였다. 그 결과 NIC 회로에서 구현되는 부저항의 값에 따라 압전 진동자의 품질계수 및 전기음향 변환효율이 제어되었으며 NIC 회로를 적용한 경우에 품질계수는 약 20배, 전기음향 변환효율은 약 2.5배 정도 향상됨을 확인하였다.

  • Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells(PEMFC) are very interesting power source due to high power density, simple construction and operation at low temperature. But they have problems such as high cost, improvement of performance and effect of temperature. This problems can be approached using mathematical models which are useful tools for analysis and optimization of fuel cell performance and for heat and water management, in this paper, transient model consists of various energy terms associated with fuel cell operation using the mass and energy balance equation. And water transfer in the membrane is composed of back diffusion and electro-osmotic drag. The temperature calculated by transient model approximately agreed with the temperature measured by experiment in constant current condition.

전기활성 고분자 구동체에 의한 손가락 모형의 집기 운동 분석 (Analysis of Pinching Motion of a Finger Dummy Actuated by Electro-active Polymer Actuators)

  • In order to demonstrate the possibility of applying an ionic polymer metal composite (IPMC) to a finger exoskeleton, pinching motion analysis was performed for a thumb-index finger dummy actuated by IPMC actuators. The IPMC actuators of 5mm in width and 40mm in length with 2.4mm thickness generated 1.52N of blocking force for the applying voltage of 4.0V. Three actuators were installed on the three rotary joint of an index finger, and one actuator was installed on one proximal joint. Positions of each joint and finger tip were recorded on the video camera, and motion was analyzed. Power supply to the index finger actuators preceded power supply to the thumb actuator, and key pinching motion was accomplished in 180s. Tip pinching was accomplished in 135s as power supply to the thumb preceded power supply to the index finger.

서로 다른 자동차소음에 대한 운전자의 주관적 및 객관적 감성반응 측정치에 관한 조사 (An Investigation into the Measured Values of Driver's Subjective and Objective Sensibility Response Stimulated by Different Car Noises)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand human sensory and emotional response according to car noise. This study investigated human stress levels from car noise based on the data of electro-encephalogram (EEG) and subjective evaluation analysis data. Since there are few previous works on the effect of car noise on human's reaction, more profound research about the effect of car noise on driver's emotion would be worth performing. Subjects were exposed to five different kinds of car noises. EEG data were collected while the subject was exposed to noise. In order to process EEG data, FFT analysis was used to separate the collected EEG data into ${\alpha}$-wave and ${\beta}$-wave. Also, survey was performed to carry out subjective evaluation. The results of the subjective evaluation were closely correlated to those found in the EEG signal analysis. The results from this study may provide useful information for mitigating car noise induced stress.

Analysis on the Friction Losses of a Bent-Axis Type Hydraulic Piston Pump

  • The design of an axial piston pump for electro-hydrostatic transmission systems requires accurate information where and how much the internal friction and flow losses are produced. This study is particularly focused on the friction losses of a bent-axis type hydraulic piston pump, aiming at finding out which design factors influence its torque efficiency most significantly. To this end, the friction coefficients of the pump parts such as piston heads, spherical joints, shaft bearings, and valve plate were experimentally identified by a specially constructed tribometer. Applying the experimental data to the equations of motion for pistons as well as to the theoretical friction models for the pump parts, the friction torques produced by them were computed. The accuracy of the computed results was confirmed by the comparison with the practical input torque of the pump. In this paper, it is shown that the viscous friction forces on the valve plate and input shaft bearing are the primary source of the friction losses of the bent-axis type pump, while the friction forces and moments on the piston are of little significance.

Vibration analysis of double-bonded micro sandwich cylindrical shells under multi-physical loadings

  • In the present study, vibration analysis of double bonded micro sandwich cylindrical shells with saturated porous core and carbon/boron nitride nanotubes (CNT/BNNT) reinforced composite face sheets under multi-physical loadings based on Cooper-Naghdi theory is investigated. The material properties of the micro structure are assumed to be temperature dependent, and each of the micro-tubes is placed on the Pasternak elastic foundations, and mechanical, moisture, thermal, electrical, and magnetic forces are effective on the structural behavior. The distributions of porous materials in three distributions such as non-linear non-symmetric, nonlinear-symmetric, and uniform are considered. The relationship including electro-magneto-hydro-thermo-mechanical loadings based on modified couple stress theory is obtained and moreover the governing equations of motion using the energy method and the Hamilton's principle are derived. Also, Navier's type solution is also used to solve the governing equations of motion. The effects of various parameters such as material length scale parameter, temperature change, various distributions of nanotube, volume fraction of nanotubes, porosity and Skempton coefficients, and geometric parameters on the natural frequency of double bonded micro sandwich cylindrical shells are investigated. Increasing the porosity and the Skempton coefficients of the core in micro sandwich cylindrical shell lead to increase the natural frequency of the structure. Cylindrical shells and porous materials in the industry of filters and separators, heat exchangers and coolers are widely used and are generally accepted today.

DoD 메탈젯 시스템의 이론적 해석 및 실험적 분석 (Theoretical Analysis and Experimental Characterization of DoD Metal-Jet System)

  • In this paper, we present a design, analysis, fabrication and performance test of the novel DoD metal-jet system for application to the high-density and high-temperature-melting materials. The theoretical analysis of the metal-jet nozzle system is derived by using electro-mechanical analogy. Based on the theoretical analysis results, we design the metal-jet print head system and fabricate the metal-jet system, which can eject the droplet of lead-free metal solder in high-temperature. In the experimental test, we set up the test apparatus for visualization of the droplet ejection and measure the ejected droplet volume and velocity. As a result, the diameter, volume and the velocity of the ejected droplet are about 65 $\mu$m $\sim$ 70 $\mu$m, 145p1 $\sim$ 180 pl and 4m/s, which shows quite good agreement with the theoretical analysis results of the 75 $\mu$m-diameter and 220 pl-volume of droplet. In comparison with the experimental result, the errors of diameter and volume are 7% $\sim$ 13% and 18 $\sim$ 34%, respectively.
