  • The present work is concerned with heat and mass transfer of an electrically conducting second grade MHD fluid past a semi-infinite stretching sheet with convective surface heat flux. The analysis accounts for thermophoresis and thermal radiation. A similarity transformations is used to reduce the governing equations into a dimensionless form. The local similarity equations are derived and solved using Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting iteration technique together with Runge-Kutta sixth order integration scheme. Results for various flow characteristics are presented through graphs and tables delineating the effect of various parameters characterizing the flow. Our analysis explores that the rate of heat transfer enhances with increasing the values of the surface convection parameter. Also the fluid velocity and temperature in the boundary layer region rise significantly for increasing the values of thermal radiation parameter.

  • Biomimetic actuators composed of cellophane with an electrically conducting polyaniline(PANI) film have been fabricated and tested in air ambience conditions doped with two different counter ions such as perchlorate (${ClO_4}^-$) and tetrafluoroborate (${BF_4}^-$). Fabrication of the trilayer CP//CELLOPHANE//CP substantially enhanced the tip displacement (13.2mm) compared to the small displacement (8.3mm) of the bilaye. CP//CELLOPHANE. The ion migration among layers is the main factor behind the expansion of cellophane, while the expansion/contraction of PANI are dependent on the redox reaction of the polymer. The displacement of the composite is dominated by the humidity content. This implies that the actuation principle is possibly due to the assistance of water existing.

  • This paper describes the effects on SUS tube of power optical fiber composite cable on underground transmission lines. The effects on grounding, air gap between SUS tube and metal sheath, contact resistance between outer semi-conducting layer and metal sheath and grounding of SUS tube application or not are variously analysed using EMTP in normal operating condition as well as single line to ground fault. From these results, in this paper, the scheme for protecting the electrically abnormal phenomena will be established on power-optical fiber composite cable of underground transmission lines. This paper can contribute to specification of grounding reference of SUS tube of optical fiber composite power cable system.

  • This work is focused on the boundary layer and heat transfer characteristics of hydromagnetic flow over a stretching sheet with variable thickness. Steady, two dimensional, nonlinear, laminar flow of an incompressible, viscous and electrically conducting fluid over a stretching sheet with variable thickness and power law velocity in the presence of variable magnetic field and variable temperature is considered. Governing equations of the problem are converted into ordinary differential equations utilizing similarity transformations. The resulting non-linear differential equations are solved numerically by utilizing Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting iterative scheme for satisfaction of asymptotic boundary conditions along with fourth order Runge-Kutta integration method. Numerical computations are carried out for various values of the physical parameters and the effects over the velocity and temperature are analyzed. Numerical values of dimensionless skin friction coefficient and non-dimensional rate of heat transfer are also obtained.

  • In this paper, electromagnetic wave scattering from a bianisotropicaly coated cylinder is formulated by using wave functions for bianisotropic media and boundary-value method. The cross section of the cylinder is made of a conducting core, a lossless dielectric layer which is both electrically magnetically bianisotropic, and a bianisotropic impedance sheet and a different uniaxial bianisotrpic coating. The solutions to arbitrary polarization angles are presented in two-dimensional. This paper presents and exact solution to the problem of scattering by a long composite circular cylinder using the boundary method. The validity of this solution is verified by comparing numerical results with those in literature. The numerical results for various geometrical and electrical parameters on bistatic scattering cross-section are presented.

  • There is great interest in developing magnetoresistance(MR) sensor, using ferromagnetic, electrically non-magnetic conducting and antiferromagnetic films, especially for the use in weak magnetic fields. Here, we report single and Wheatstone-bridge type of MR sensors made in Si(001)/HiO(300$\AA$)/NiFe bilayers. Angular dependence of MR profiles was measured in Si(001)/NiO(300$\AA$)/NiFe(450$\AA$) films as a function of an angle between current and applied field direction, also, linearity was determined. AMR characteristics of single MR sensors was well explained with single domain model. Good linearity in 45$^{\circ}$Wheatstone-bridge type of MR sensors consisting of 4 single MR sensors made in Si(001)/NiO(300$\AA$)/NiFe(450$\AA$) was shown in the range of about $\pm$50 Oe.

  • Carbon nannofiber reinforced Cu matrix composite has potential applications for electrically conducting materials having high strength and electrical conductivity. In this study, we have developed fabrication technology of the nanocomposites using a liquid pressing process. The process is to use the low pressure for infiltration of Cu melt into carbon nanofiber mat as the Cu melt is pressurized directly. The minimum pressure required for infiltration was calculated from force balance equation, permeability measurement and compaction behavior of carbon nanofiber. Also, the melting temperature and the holding time have been optimized.

  • In this present article, we analyzed the heat and mass transfer characteristics of the nonlinear unsteady radiative MHD flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate under the influence of Soret and chemical reaction effects. The effect of physical parameters are accounted for two distinct types of thermal boundary conditions namely prescribed uniform wall temperature thermal boundary condition and prescribed heat flux thermal boundary condition. Based on the flow nature, the dimensionless flow governing equations are resolved to harmonic and non harmonic parts. In particular skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are found to evolve into their steady state case in the large time limit. Parametric study of the solutions are conducted and discussed.

  • Conductive polymers, prepared by mixing electrically conductive fillers with a suitable polymeric formulation, are widely used in applications such as interconnecting materials for high density electronic packaging. However, resins of conductive pastes used as binders and vehicles are generally nonconductive, so that they may prevent the electrical contact between conductive fillers and reduce electron transmission. In this study, we improved conductivity of silver paste by the incorporation of cabon nanotubes. It is important to achieve homogeneous dispersion of CNTs to act as reinforcements efficiently in matrix. We carried out acid treatment on nanotubes for their homogeneous dispersion in silver/conducting polymer matrix. The dispersion states of nanotubes were characterized by raman spectra and filed emission scanning electron microscope. The electrical resistivity of CNTs incorporated silver paste was also measured by 4-point probe method.

  • Up to now, there have been numerous investigations about the effect of diffusion on the wave propagation in gaseous plasmas, but not so much in semiconductor magnetoplasmas. However, currently, it becomes the centor of interest to work with the latter problem, and this paper deals with the dispersion equation including diffusion effect in the latter case to see how diffusion affects the equation in which diffusion term is neglected in the first place, and the analysis is based on the assumption that the plasma can be treated as a hydrodynamical fluid, since, from a macroscopic view point, the plasma interacting with a magnetic field can be considered as a magneto-hydrodynamical fluid, an electrically conducting fluid subjected to electromagnetic force, and the system is linear. The results of the relation and computation show that in the non-streaming case the diffusion terms appear in the equation as perturbation terms and the amplitude of the wave vector changes parabolically with the variation of the angular frequency and the longitudinal modes are observed.
