PZT (Pb(Zr,Ti)O3) thin films have been used widely in the MEMS application, due to their inherent ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties. Such ferroelectricity induces much higher dielectric constants compared to those of the nonperovskite materials. In this work, the PZT thin films were deposited onto Indium-Tin-oxide (ITO) substrates through the spin-coating of PZT sols. The deposited PZT thin films were characterized in terms of the electrical and optical properties with special emphases on conductivity and optical constants. The detailed analysis techniques incorporate the dc-based current-voltage characteristics for the electrical properties, spectroscopic ellipsometry for optical characterization, atomic force microscopy for surface morphology, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy for chemical bonding, Energy-dispersive X-ray Spectrometry for chemical analyses and X-ray diffraction for crystallinity. The ferroelectric phenomena were confirmed using capacitance-voltage measurements. The integrated physical/chemical features are attempted towards energy-oriented applications applicable to next-generation high-efficiency power generation systems.
This is for the electrical characterization by IDC pattern using BST$(Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3)$ thin film. BST materials had been chosen for high frequency applications due to it's high permitivity and tunability. The BST thin films have been deposited on $Al_2O_3$ Substrates by Nd-YAG pulsed laser deposition with a 355nm wavelength at $700\;^{\circ}C$. The post deposition annealing at $750^{\circ}C$ in flowing $O_2$ atmosphere for 1 hours. The capacitance of IDC patterns have been measured from 1 to 10 GHz as a function of electric field ($\pm40$ KV/cm) at room temperature using inter-digital Au electrodes deposited on top of BST. The IDC patterns have three type of fingers number. For the 10 pairs finger was the best capacitance onto $Al_2O_3$ substrate. The capacitance was 0.9pF. Also Dielectric constant was been 351 at 100 mTorr and annealing temperature $750^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The loss tangent was been 0.00531.
Among numerous material candidates, Cu(InxGa1-x)(SySe2-y) (CIGS) thin films have emerged as promising material candidates for thin film solar cell applications due to the high energy conversion efficiency and relatively low fabrication cost. The CIGS thin film solar cells consist of several materials, including Mo back contacts, ZnO-based window layers, and CdS buffer layers. All these materials have different crystal structures and contain quite distinct chemical elements, and hence the device characterization requires careful analyses. Most of all, identification of the major trap states resulting in the carrier recombination processes is a key step toward realization of high efficiency CIGS solar cells. We have carried out electrical investigations of CIGS thin film solar cells to specify the major trap states and their roles in photovoltaic performance. In particular, we have used the temperature-dependent transport characterizations and admittance spectroscopy. In this presentation, we will introduce some exemplary studies of DC and AC electrical characteristics of the CIGS solar cells.

A single-phase tapped-inductor boost converter has been proposed previously. However, detailed characterization and performance analysis were not conducted. This paper presents a detailed characterization, performance analysis, and design expressions of a single-phase tapped-coupled-inductor boost converter. Expressions are derived for average and RMS input current as well as for RMS input and output capacitor current ripple. A systematic approach for sizing the tapped-coupled inductor, active switch, and output diode is presented; such approach has not been reported in related literature. This study reveals that sizing of the inductor has to be based on current ripple requirement, turns ratio, and load. Conditions that produce discontinuous inductor current are also discussed. Analysis of a non-ideal converter operating in continuous conduction mode is also conducted. The expression for the voltage ratio considering the coupling coefficient is derived. The suitability of the converter for high-voltage step-up applications is evaluated. Factors that affect the voltage boost ratio are also identified. The effects of duty ratio and load variation on the performance of the converter are also investigated. The theoretically derived characteristics are validated through simulations. Experimental results obtained at a low power level are included to validate the analytical and simulation results. A good agreement is observed among the analytical, simulation, and experimental results.
Marine clays are soft soil deposits having complicated mineralogy and formation characteristics. Thus, characterization of its geotechnical behavior has been a main issue for geotechnical engineers. Nowadays, the importance and applications of geophysical exploration on marine clays are increasing significantly according to the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of geophysical survey technology. For marine clays, seismic survey is effective for density and elasticity characterization, while electro-magnetic wave provides the information about the fluid conductivity phenomena inside soil. For practical applications, elastic wave technology can evaluate the consolidation state of natural marine clay layers and estimate important geotechnical engineering parameters of artificially reclaimed marine deposits. Electrical resistivity can provide geophysical characteristics such as particle cementation, pore geometry shape, and pore material phase condition. Furthermore, nondestructive geophysical monitoring is applicable for risk management and efficiency enhancement during natural methane gas extraction from gas hydrate-bearing sediments.

Most of irradiated graphite that should be disposed comes from moderators and reflectors of nuclear power plants. The quantity of irradiated graphite could be higher in the future if high-temperature reactors (HTRs) will be deployed. In this case noteworthy quantities of fuel pebbles containing semi-graphitic carbonaceous material should be added to the already existing 250,000 tons of irradiated graphite. Industry graphite is largely used in industrial applications for its high thermal and electrical conductivity and thermal and chemical resistance, making it a valuable material. Irradiated graphite constitutes a waste management challenge owing to the presence of long-lived radionuclides, such as 14C and 36Cl. In the ENEA Nuclear Material Characterization Laboratory it has been successfully designed a procedure based on the exfoliation process organic solvent assisted, with the purpose of investigate the possibility of achieving graphite significantly less toxic that could be recycled for other purpose [1]. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the possibility of the scalability from laboratory to industrial dimensions of the exfoliation process and provide the prototype of a chemical plant for the treatment of irradiated graphite.
Thin Silicon oxynitride(SiON) films have been chemically deposited using 193nm ArF Excimer Laser CVD, with $Si_{2}H_{8}$, $N_{2}O$, and $NH_3$ as the reactive gases and $N_2$ as the carrier gas. Experimental results show that deposition rate and refractive index have a strong dependence on substrate temperature, chamber pressure, gas ratio, laser power and laser beam height. Electrical characterization of oxynitride films demonstrates that for $NH_{3}/N_{2}O$ flow ratios ranging from 0.25 to 1, the leakage currents, the interface trap density and the capacitances (dielect ric constant) increase and the dielectric breakdown fields decrease
Dimond-like carbon(DLC) films have been deposited by using both rf plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA) deposition systems. Effects of deposition conditions, such as dc self-bias, $CH_4$ gas pressure, substrate bias, and $N_2$ partial pressure, on the structural and electrical properties of DLC films are examined. The experimental results obtained have also been discussed by considering a theoretical model for film growth.

In this paper, the characterization of the vertical position of trapped charges in the charge-trap flash (CTF) memory is performed in the novel CTF memory cell with gate-all-around structure using technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulation. In the CTF memories, injected charges are not stored in the conductive poly-crystalline silicon layer in the trapping layer such as silicon nitride. Thus, a reliable technique for exactly locating the trapped charges is required for making up an accurate macro-models for CTF memory cells. When a programming operation is performed initially, the injected charges are trapped near the interface between tunneling oxide and trapping nitride layers. However, as the program voltage gets higher and a larger threshold voltage shift is resulted, additional charges are trapped near the blocking oxide interface. Intrinsic properties of nitride including trap density and effective capture cross-sectional area substantially affect the position of charge centroid. By exactly locating the charge centroid from the charge distribution in programmed cells under various operation conditions, the relation between charge centroid and program operation condition is closely investigated.
The work presented in this report was a detailed comparative study of the electrochemical response exhibited by graphite anodes in Li-ion batteries having different physical features. A comprehensive morphological and physical characterization was carried out for these graphite samples via X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Later, the electrochemical performance was analyzed using galvanostatic charge/discharge testing and the galvanostatic intermittent titration technique for these graphite samples as negative electrode materials in battery operation. The results demonstrated that a material having a higher crystalline order exhibits enhanced electrochemical properties when evaluated in terms of rate-capability performance. All these materials were investigated at high C-rates ranging from 0.1C up to 10C. Such improved response was attributed to the crystalline morphology providing short layers, which facilitate rapid Li+ ions diffusivity and electron transport during the course of battery operation. The values obtained for the electrical conductivity of these graphite anodes support this possible explanation.
