  • IEC 61850 based substation automation system mainly consists of human machine interface and a various of IEDs in charge of protective and control functions of the substation. Both of them should require the performance verification of IEC 61850 communication services because their communication relation is the same as client and server throughout the digital network. This paper shows a research result on the testing method of basic communication interface of the IEC 61850 based client, which was implemented by the analysis of real communication between HMI and IED of IEC 61850 based substation automation system and refereed to IED IEC 61850 conformance test procedures.

  • IEC 61850 based substation automation system is operating with Generic Object Oriented Substation Event message when an IED need to send an important signal to other IEDs or receive the signals from another IED such as trip and interlock. So interoperability of substation automation system may be assured throughout the verification of IED GOOSE. This paper shows a testing contents for GOOSE subscription and publish of IEC 61850 based IED and describes how to analysis the result of GOOSE testing. Now domestic IED completed by GOOSE test of this study are working in KEPCO test field.

A Substation-Oriented Approach to Optimal Phasor Measurement Units Placement

  • State Estimation (SE) is the basis of a variety of advanced applications used in most modern power systems. An SE problem formed with enough phasor measurement units (PMUs) data is simply a linear weighted least squares problem requiring no iterations. Thus, designing a minimum-cost placement of PMUs that guarantees observability of a power system becomes a worthy challenge. This paper proposes an equivalent integer linear programming method for substation-oriented optimal PMU placement (SOOPP). The proposed method uses an exhaustive search to determine a globally optimal solution representing the best PMU placement for that particular power system. To obtain a more comprehensive model, contingencies and the limitation of the number of PMU measurement channels are considered and embodied in the model as changes to the original constraints and as additional constraints. The proposed method is examined for applicability using the IEEE 14-bus, 118-bus and 300-bus test systems. The comparison between SOOPP results and results obtained by other methods reveals the excellence of SOOPP. Furthermore, practical large-scale power systems are also successfully analyzed using SOOPP.

Bus Reconfiguration Strategy Based on Local Minimum Tree Search for the Event Processing of Automated Distribution Substations

  • This paper proposes an expert system that can enhance the accuracy of real-time bus reconfiguration strategy by adopting the local minimum tree search method and that can minimize the spreading effect of the fault by considering the operating condition when a main transformer fault occurs in an automated substation. The local minimum tree search method is used to expand the best-first search method. This method has the advantage that it can improve the solution performance within the limits of the real-time condition. The inference strategy proposed expert system consists of two stages. The first stage determines the switching candidate set by searching possible switching candidates starting from the main transformer or busbar related to the event. The second stage determines the rational real-time bus reconfiguration strategy based on heuristic rules from the obtained switching candidate set. Also, this paper proposes generalized distribution substation modeling using graph theory, and a substation database based on the study results is designed.

  • AC substation of urban transit supplies a suitable AC power on electricity vehicles. AC substation is verified electrical safety of system through pre-operation inspection on electrical installations to be supplied power from KEPCO. However, because test items and method for AC traction system are unprepared on pre-operation inspection, the general safety and performance verification of AC traction system are very insufficient. Therefore this paper analyze the test examples such as factory equipment tests, factory combined tests and railway tests for the safety and performance verification of AC traction system and present a suitable test items and test standard in domestic.

  • Purpose of the 765kV trial operation conducted for the first time in our country are performance verification of domestic developed equipment(765kV M.Tr, GIS,etc) and extraction of problem in advance to commercial operation and cultivation of operation ability.   • This paper proposes an expert system based on the pattern recognition method which can enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of real-time bus reconfiguration strategy for the transfer of faulted load when a main transformer fault occurs in the automated substation. The minimum distance classification method is adopted as the pattern recognition method of expert system. The training pattern set is designed MTr by MTr to minimize the searching time for target load pattern which is similar to the real-time load pattern. But the control pattern set, which is required to determine the corresponding bus reconfiguration strategy to these trained load pattern set is designed as one table by considering the efficiency of knowledge base design because its size is small. The training load pattern generator based on load level and the training load pattern generator based on load profile are designed, which are can reduce the size of each training pattern set from max L/sup (m+f)/ to the size of effective level. Here, L is the number of load level, m and f are the number of main transformers and the number of feeders. The one reduces the number of trained load pattern by setting the sawmiller patterns to a same pattern, the other reduces by considering only load pattern while the given period. And control pattern generator based on exhaustive search method with breadth-limit is designed, which generates the corresponding bus reconfiguration strategy to these trained load pattern set. The inference engine of the expert system and the substation database and knowledge base is implemented in MFC function of Visual C++ Finally, the performance and effectiveness of the proposed expert system is verified by comparing the best-first search solution and pattern recognition solution based on diversity event simulations for typical distribution substation.

IED를 기반으로 하는 디지털 수배전반의 지적추론기반 운전제어 솔루션 설계 (The Design of Operation and Control Solution with Intelligent Inference Capability for IED based Digital Switchgear Panel)

  • In this paper, DSPOCS(Digital Switchgear-Panel Operation and Control Solution) is designed, which is the intelligent inference based operation and control solution to obtain the safety and reliability of electric power supply in substation based on IED. DSPOCS is designed as a scheduled monitoring and control task and a real-time alarm inference task, and is interlinked with BRES(Bus Reconfiguration Expert System) in the required case. The intelligent alarm inference task consists of the alarm knowledge generation part and the real-time pattern matching part. The alarm knowledge generation part generates automatically alarm knowledge from DB saves it in alarm knowledge base. On the other hand, the pattern matching part inferences the real-time event by comparing the real-time event information furnished from IEDs of substation with the patterns of the saved alarm knowledge base.; Especially, alarm knowledge base includes the knowledge patterns related with fault alarm, the overload alarm and the diagnosis alarm. In order to design the database independently in substation structure, busbar is represented as a connectivity node which makes the more generalized graph theory possible. Finally, DSPOCS is implemented in MS Visual $C^{++}$, MFC, the effectiveness and accuracy of the design is verified by simulation study to the typical distribution substation.
