Study on Seismic Performance Evaluation and Verification of Seismic Safety for Power Cable Tunnels (개착식 전력구의 내진성능 평가 및 내진 안전성 검증)

  • In this paper, the seismic performance evaluation was performed on 100 existing open-cut power cable tunnels, including ones that did not consider seismic design, in order to verify that the government's demand level (seismic special grade, 0.22 g). The results of the seismic performance evaluation show that most of the tunnels have seismic performance of 0.3 to 1 g, satisfying the level of the seismic special grade and securing the seismic safety. Meanwhile, the earthquake response analysis and structural test were performed to verify the validity of the method and the results of the seismic performance evaluation of the tunnels by the response displacement method, and to verify their seismic safety. As a result, the relative displacement due to the response displacement method under the 0.22 g earthquake was conservative than the results of the earthquake response analysis, and the results of load-displacement curves and response modification coefficient calculation by real scale structural tests showed the safety of the tunnels.

  • In the hope of realizing carbon neutrality, Korea has established the goal of expanding the supply of hydrogen electric vehicles through a roadmap to revitalize the hydrogen economy. A prerequisite for successful supply expansion is securing the safety of hydrogen electric vehicles. Certain parts, such as the hydrogen transport pipe and tank, in hydrogen electric vehicles are exposed to high-pressure hydrogen gas over long periods of time, so the hydrogen enters the grain boundary of material, resulting in a degradation of the parts referred to as hydrogen embrittlement. In addition, since the safety of parts utilizing hydrogen varies depending on the type of material used and its environmental characteristics, the necessity for the enactment of a hydrogen embrittlement regulation has emerged and is still being discussed as a Global Technical Regulation (GTR). In this paper, we analyze a hydrogen compatibility material evaluation method discussed in GTR and present a direction for the development of Korean-type hydrogen compatibility material evaluation methods.

Improvement in the DNBR Modeling of RETRAN for Safety Analyses of Westinghouse Nuclear Power Plants

  • Korea Electric Power Research Institute has developed the in-house safety analysis methodologies for non-LOCA(Loss Of Coolant Accident) events based on codes and methodologies of vendors and Electric Power Research Institute . According to the new methodologies, analyses of system responses and calculation of DNBR(Departure from Nucleate Boiling Ratio) during the transient have been carried out with RETRAN code and a sub-channel analysis code, respectively. However, it takes too much time to calculate DNBR for each case using the two codes to search for the limiting case from sensitivity study. To simplify the search for the limiting case, accordingly, RETRAN code has been modified to roughly calculate DNBR using hot channel modeling. The W-3 correlation is already included in RETRAN as one of the auxiliary DNBR models. However, WRB-1 and WRB-2 correlations required to analyze some Westinghouse type fuels are not considered in RETRAN DNBR models. In this paper, the RETRAN DNBR models using the correlations have been developed and the partial and complete loss of forced reactor coolant flow events have been analyzed for Yonggwang units 1 and 2 with the new methodologies to validate the models. The results of the analyses have been compared with those mentioned in the chapter 15 of the Final Safety Analysis Report.

Image Analysis by CNN Technique for Maintenance of Porcelain Insulator (자기애자의 유지 관리를 위한 CNN 기법을 이용한 이미지 분석)

  • This study examines the feasibility of the image deep learning method using convolution neural networks (CNNs) to maintain a porcelain insulator. Data augmentation is performed to prevent over-fitting, and the classification performance is evaluated by training the age, material, region, and pollution level of the insulator using image data in which the background and labelling are removed. Based on the results, it was difficult to predict the age, but it was possible to classify 76% of the materials, 60% of the pollution level, and more than 90% of the regions. From the results of this study, we identified the potential and limitations of the CNN classification for the four groups currently classified. However, it was possible to detect discoloration of the porcelain insulator resulting from physical, chemical, and climatic factors. Based on this, it will be possible to estimate the corrosion of the cap and discoloration of the porcelain caused by environmental deterioration, abnormal voltage, and lightning.

A Study on Safety Step for Advanced Electric Multiple Unit (차세대전동차 안전스텝 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The safety step has been developed to ensure the passengers' safety including the disabled and the weak by eliminating gap between vehicle and platform. The type of safety step is divided according to the position that the safety step is installed. The type of safety step attached platform is the rubber type that is previously attached to a platform. The installed rubber can reduces the gap between vehicle and platform by a fixed distance. If the safety step is installed on the vehicle, it is possible to respond to the various platform typed such as straight or curved form. It is also flexible to the height of riding depends on number of passenger and platform conditions and does not require crew's additional operation. We have been developed vehicle attached safety step for advanced electric multiple unit. We hope to increase the use of safety step for the disabled and the weak to expand the convenience use of railway transportation system.
