Parameters of the Electric and Magnetic Fields Due to Cloud-to-Ground Lightnings (낙뢰에 의한 전계와 자계 파형의 파라미터)

  • One of the topics concerning the electromagnetic compatibility of modern electronic circuits is to take protection from transient overvoltages caused by not only cloud-to-ground lightnings but also induced lightning discharges. In this paper, the vertical electric and horizontal magnetic fields from cloud-to-ground lightnings were measured and analyzed. The electric and magnetic fields waveforms associated with cloud-to-ground lightnings have several subsidiary peaks which decrease with time. There were not much differences between the electric and magnetic field due to long distance cloud-to-ground discharges. Average values of 10~90% rise times of electric fields are $4.65mutextrm{s}$ for the positive cloud-to-ground lightning and $3.29mutextrm{s}$ for the negative cloud-to-ground lightning, respectively. Also, in the positive and negative cloud-to-ground lightning discharges, the zero-to-zero crossing times in the wave tail of magnetic fields are significantly longer than those of the electric fields.

Sintering and Electrical Properties of Mn-doped ZnO-$TeO_2$ Ceramics

  • ZnO-based varistors have been widely used for voltage stabilization or transient surge suppression in electric power systems and electronic circuits. Recently, It has reported that the varistor behavior with nonlinear coefficient of 6~17 in Mn-doped ZnO. In this study we have chosen the composition of ZnO-$TeO_2-Mn_3O_4$ (ZTM) system to the purpose of whether varistor behavior appeared in doped ZnO by the solid state sintering or not. We investigated the sintering and electric properties of 0.5~3.0 at% Mn doped ZnO-1.0 at% $TeO_2$ system. Electrical properties, such as current-voltage (I-V), capacitance-voltage (C-V), and impedance spectroscopy were conducted. $TeO_2$ itself melts at $732^{\circ}C$ in air but forms the $ZnTeO_3$ phase with ZnO as increasing temperature and therefore retards the densification of ZnO to $1000^{\circ}C$. The average grain size of sintered samples was at about $3{\mu}m$ and decreased with increasing Mn contents. It was found that a good varistor characteristics were developed in ZTM system sintered at $1100^{\circ}C$ (nonlinear coefficient $\alpha$ ~ 60). The results of C-V characteristics such as barrier height ($\Theta$), donor density ($N_d$), depletion layer (W), and interface state density ($N_t$) in ZTM ceramics were $4\times10^{17}cm^{-3}$, 0.7 V, 40 nm, and $1.6\times10^{12}cm^{-2}$, respectively. It will be discussed about the stability and homogeneity of grain boundaries using distribution parameter ($\alpha$) simulated with the Z(T)"-logf plots in ZTM system.

  • Application of conventional phase controlled power electronic circuits causes reduced power factor and increased harmonic component in the electric sources. Therefore, an Optimal PWM strategy has been investigated here in order to reduce to a large extent these effects mentioned. Optimal PWM converter has been to minimize the rms harmonic current in the sources and has been found to have a duality with Optimal PWM inverter. The voltage patterns of Optimal PWM Inverters are governed by the same switching patterns and control laws as the current patterns for Optimal PWM converter. The improvement requires switching devices having a high speed capability. While this formerly did require thyristors with force commutation circuits, today this feature is easily implemented by using power Transistor or GTOs. The control laws for minimizing the rms harmonics current in the source, the circuits and the results are shown in the paper.

  • These days the automobile industry, which has rapidly progressed, has been an indispensable part in social and economic activities as well as its research and development have been activated in response to various needs of consumers and markets. The second and third generation control system, getting count on safety and convenience differently than early circuits, cause the hypertrophy of wire harness. The J/Box(Junction Box), which distributes power and wires, was developed to solve the problem. As vehicles have been better in quantity and intelligence, however, environment-friendly electric apparatus system has continuously increased and ITS(Intelligent Transport System) has been introduced in earnest. In result, wires got complicated and multilateral and also there has been a stronger probability that vehicles are out of order due to various problems including mechanical failure. In this study, ISJB(Intelligent Smart Junction Box) was introduced to solve the problem. The diagnosis system was applied to prevent the overload and short of ISJE. Also, the state of vehicles displayed so that drivers monitor it in motion. Likewise error data are saved in the memory so that such data can be analyzed retrospectively. The busbar was adopted in to the main power terminal and the part of power pattern was coverd by lead. Because ISJB is more sensitive to heat in comparison to the busbar type J/Box. With regard the circuits related with safe, alternative circuits were set up in order that electronic devices may be normally operated even when an error arises. ISJB is expected to improve the safety and quality of vehicles.

Micro to Nano-scale Electrohydrodynamic Nano-Inkjet Printing for Printed Electronics: Fundamentals and Solar Cell Applications

  • In recent years, inkjet printing technology has received significant attention as a micro/nanofabrication technique for flexible printing of electronic circuits and solar cells, as well for biomaterial patterning. It eliminates the need for physical masks, causes fewer environment problems, lowers fabrication costs, and offers good layer-to-layer registration. To fulfill the requirements for use in the above applications, however, the inkjet system must meet certain criteria such as high frequency jetting, uniform droplet size, high density nozzle array, etc. Existing inkjet devices are either based on thermal bubbles or piezoelectric pumping; they have several drawbacks for flexible printing. For instance, thermal bubble jetting has limitations in terms of size and density of the nozzle array as well as the ejection frequency. Piezoelectric based devices suffer from poor pumping energy in addition to inadequate ejection frequency. Recently, an electrohydrodynamic (EHD) printing technique has been suggested and proposed as an alternative to thermal bubble or piezoelectric devices. In EHD jetting, a liquid (ink) is pumped through a nozzle and a strong electric field is applied between the nozzle and an extractor plate, which induce charges at the surfaces of the liquid meniscus. This electric field creates an electric stress that stretches the meniscus in the direction of the electric field. Once the electric field force is larger than the surface tension force, a liquid droplet is formed. An EHD inkjet head can produce droplets smaller than the size of the nozzle that produce them. Furthermore, the EHD nano-inkjet can eject high viscosity liquid through the nozzle forming tiny structures. These unique features distinguish EHD printing from conventional methods for sub-micron resolution printing. In this presentation, I will introduce the recent research results regarding the EHD nano-inkjet and the printing system, which has been applied to solar cell or thin film transistor applications.

Characteristics Analysis of the Fluid Power System for a Double-color Injection Molding Machine Development (이색 사출성형기 개발을 위한 유압시스템의 특성 검토)

  • Double-color Injection molding machine is the assembly of many kinds of mechanical, fluid power part and electric electronic control system. From in these, fluid power is a part where becomes the first core of this machine. Fluid power systems of double-color injection molding machine are modelled and analyzed using a commercial program AMESim. Partial system models which is divided according to functional operation are made and its analysis results shows how design parameters work on operational characteristics like pressure, flow rates, displacement at each node and so on. Analysis modeling and compared the data which gets from experiment and the analysis result which has a reliability got data. The results made by analysis will be used design of fluid power circuit for developing a double-color injection molding machine.

A study on real time measuring microscopic movements in sinusoidal phase modulating interferometry using a laser diode (레이저 다이오드를 이용한 정현파 위상변조 간섭에 의한 실시간 극미세 진동 측정에 관한 연구)

  • A new signal processing system for real time displacement measurement in sinusoidal phase modulating interferometry is described. Although sinusoidal phase modulating interferometry is effective in measuring with high accuracy the displacement of an object, conventional signal processing takes a long time. In this method, detection of the object's displacement is easily achieved by sampling the interference signal at those times that satisfy certain conditions and by processing the sampled signals with electric circuits in real time. The delay time of this signal processing system is < 45${\mu}$s. Specially in this paper we describe all electronic circuit and optical system design

  • Ionizing Radiation effects on MOS devices provide useful information regarding the behavior of MOS based devices and circuits in the electronic instrumentation parts and instructive data for making the high sensitive sensors. The study presents the results of the analysis on the structural characteristics of MOS capacitor for sensing the ionizing radiation effect. We performed numerical modeling of Ionizing-radiation effect on MOS capacitor and simulation using Matlab program. Also we produced MOS capacitors and obtained useful data through radiation experiment to analyse the characteristic of ionizing radiation effect on MOS capacitor. Increasing the thickness of MOS capacitor's oxide layer enhanced the sensitivity of MOS capacitor under irradiation condition, but the sensitivity of irradiated MOS capacitor is uninfluenced by the area of MOS capacitor. The high frequency capacitance of the MOS capacitor is found to be strongly affected by incident ionizing radiation.

Image Processing LSI Design by C Base Language

  • In late years, the tendency to shift the design language of electronic circuits from HDL to C-based languages of C/C)1 and so on is strengthened. The current of adopting these software languages thrives by necessity to solve the problem peculiar to HDL that verification of design is difficult. When we use C-based languages, we can describe the design by higher abstraction degree, mount the design as both hardware and software finally and so that express the design part which is not made clear at early stage the same one language. Therefore, the flexibility of design very improves, the design work in environment the range of applying the whole systems become possible. This paper introduces example at having applied C-based languages in image processing LSI design and describes that the design technique of C-based languages is effective for the system design.
