  • Health care services in a residential area would accelerate the aging in place. In addition, these changes would play a key role in terms of reducing healthcare costs and leading a healthy lifestyle. The purpose of this study draws the design methodology of community facilities and each dwelling with healthcare services in apartment complex, which the elderly people will enjoy a better health status. This paper presents the result focused on the welfare building in Gayang 7th apartment complex. The intention to receive healthcare services was investigated by occupants. Moreover, design requirements were drawn through in-depth interviews and the state observation to use the service. In the complex, stronger intention to serve the u-Healthcare services was shown to the pre elderly group than the elderly. Both of them had a problem to use and keep the health equipment due to the fact there is not enough space in the unit. Reporting the observation results, the upright-posture furniture attaching the healthcare equipment and the equipment storage should be prepared in the unit. In the public space, the program for these healthcare services can be divided into three parts, i.e. the health status measurement, the healthcare, and the service connected to the surrounding facilities. The health status measurement can be the basic to the health services and its function should be gradually extended. In the complex, the hybrid type with various functions could be applied owing to a new building for welfare; moreover, semi-independent user should be able to receive the home healthcare service.

  • This paper is intended to suggest some reference materials for future elderly housing design, especially smart home, in Korea, by reviewing the elements and applications of smart home concept for older adults in USA. Research method includes collecting materials by attending the regular SmartHome$^{(R)}$ part meeting, the navigation of related homepages, and the analysis of collected materials. Current researches in Korea look initial stage and show some general principles without practical concept & technologies of elderly facilities. SeniorSmart$^{(R)}$ Center in USA started on August 2007 with the 3 parts of SmartHOME$^{(R)}$, SmartWHEELS$^{(R)}$ and SmartBRAIN$^{(R)}$. The Center has been doing various multidisciplinary research projects but slowing down the planned processes due to national economic recession. The major researches of SmartHome$^{(R)}$ part can be summarized as follows; CS-PFP( Continuous Scale Physical Function Performance) laboratory is being in operation to help older adults and families make the difficult decision regarding the ability and safety to live independently. Three levels of necessary laboratories from uninhabited space to senior living environment were accommodated for field research. As core technologies of SmartHome$^{(R)}$, predicting & warning system of fall risk on recognizing gait signature patterns to identify any deviation from the normal patterns of the older adults, home monitoring system which will send alerts to a specified relative and/or health care professional when vital signs of the older adults will not be within normal parameters, and Mobility & Research Clinic for evaluating, treating the older adults & multidisciplinary research are under development. SmartHome$^{(R)}$ has made collaborative research agreements for field laboratory with various retirement communities and also is continuing to work for experimental software engineering with the Fraunhofer Institute, Germany.

  • Recently, in Korea, single- or two-person households (50.5%) are becoming the primary family type due to increasing divorce rates, population aging, personal code of values and so on. Hence, small families will lead to a sudden increase of single- or two-person households. People searching for small houses are increasing because of the provision of officetels, one room and urban-life housing as well as economic recession. However, this has led to habitability problems, such as parking, storage space and decline in safety. In this study, we obtain the proper contents from LQI indicators of advanced research and use the indicators to evaluate the residential environment quality. We conduct a post-occupancy-evaluation (POE) survey and compare the habitability satisfaction level of apartment and officetel residents. According to the survey, officetel residents' satisfaction levels are low for the following factors in the order listed: ventilation, storage space, management expenses and facilities for children and the elderly.

Second, the preference of UIBS was increased after providing information of the aging society. Third, in the case of the illness, a big city with medical facilities was preferred not to move in the suburb. Fourth, after providing information, a small size of apartment was preferred but the preferred change of housing ownership was not founded. • This study suggests that the diversity of parks is necessary because the number of children, who are the main users in children's parks, is decreasing and the use of parks by older people is increasing. In particular, the present aging society is trying to propose a multi-purpose park to solve the problem of the elderly leisure. To do this, this study surveyed domestic and foreign children's parks and selected study sites to understand the usage patterns of children's parks. As a result of surveying the location of the park to select the study sites, most children's parks were found mostly in single family housing areas and multi-family housing areas. As a result of the survey, it was found that the children's parks consisted of streets and areas by the 'City Parks and Greenery Act' and they were uniform. This paper presents basic data for the development of a model for producing a multipurpose park that can be used for children's parks by the elderly. The subjects of this study were selected from 7 districts of Daegu city, which were classified into single family housing areas and multi-family housing areas. As a result, the arrangement of various facilities in the children's park is insufficient, and it was uniform without a design motive and contents. Therefore, the utilization rate of various age groups could be increased by developing a multi-purpose park model for a children's park.

  • This study is to search the determinants which influence on evaluating the silver welfare facilities, of which data for this study were collected from the survey on the evaluation of social welfare facilities which were enforced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2006. As the results, all the factors for the management of those facilities, such as facility and environment, management of organization and human resource, service quality, and community relation, influences significantly on silver welfare facility. Among the factors, the development of service quality should be taken care of, since service quality strongly explains the result of evaluation through the regression analysis. In regard of the fundamental factors, the juridical fund itself has no influence on the evaluation of the institutes, while the patronage fund for the facilities has significant influence on silver welfare facilities except elderly housing. However, the fundamental support from government has negative influence on the facilities for specialized nursing.
