  • Elasto-plastic and Visco-elastic sytress analyses were conducted for standard cross-section of subway tunnel in Seoul . Considering the procedure of excavation and reinforcement, excavated region was divided to multiple elements. And the progress of tunnel is simulated to be the removal of a series of layerd elements by means of diminishing the stiffness of the portion progressively. Another method is to be free of stress due to excavation instead of stiffness. In the analysis multiple element method was conducted with ADINA program, the stiffness removal method was adopted . For the same model, stress release method was carried out with Visco-Elastic Analysis program developed in Rock mechanics laboratory, Seoul National University(SNU-VBA) . When upper tunnel excavated, displacements in roof were same for two results, but when bottom tunnel removed completely , displacement changes of rock in the stress release method exhibited very small amount compared with stiffness removal method.

  • A discrete joint finite element with joint surface degradation was developed to investigate the shear behavior of rough rock joint. Isoparametric formulation was used for facilitating the implementation of the element in existing Finite Element Codes. The elasto-plastic joint deformation model with the discontinuity constitutive law proposed by Plesha was applied to the element. The reliability of the developed finite element code was successfully testified through numerical direct shear tests conducted under both constant normal stress and constant normal displacement conditions. The result of the numerical direct shear test showed that the code can capture characteristic deformation features envisaged in the direct shear test of rough rock joint.

  • This paper focues on the flexural behavior of RC beams externally reinforced using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics plates. (CFRP) A non-linear finite element (FE) analysis is proposed in order to complete the experimental analysis of the flexural behaviour of the beams. This paper is a part of a complete program aiming to set up design formulate to predict the strength of CFRP strengthende beams, particularly when premature failure through plates-end shear or concrete cover delamination occurs. An elasto-plastic behaviour is assumed for reinforced concrete and interface elements are used to model the bond and slip.

  • This paper presents a finite element based numerical model to solve two dimensional bi-material problems. A bi-material beam consisting of two phase materials ceramic and metal is modelled by finite element method. The beam is subjected simultaneously to mechanical and thermal loadings. The main objective of this study is the analysis of crack deviation located in the brittle material near the interface. The effect of temperature gradient, the residual stresses and applied loads on crack initiation, propagation and deviation are examined and highlighted.

  • This paper was utilized the STKM13C tubes for machine structural purposes model, inner radius was 100 mm and outer radios was 140 mm, axial length was semi-infinite and the isoparametric element was used. Radial, tangential and shearing stress occured the maximum stresses(-20, 52 and 26 MPa) at the inner radius and the minimum stresses at the outer radius. of the hydraulic actuator cylinders for an industrial systems. But negative signs have meaning compressive stress and stress diminution ratio was about 0.15 MPa/mm And then coincidence between the simulation and exact results(Lame' equation) is found to be fairly good, showing that the proposed analytical by BEM are reliable.

  • An approximate procedure based on a combination micro-macroscopic theories of plasticity for predicting the crystallographic texture during the plane strain forming of fcc metals has been developed. This procedure is divided into two steps. Firstly, we extract the history of the deformation gradient at all deformed elements with a elasto-plastic finite element method using isotropic plasticity model. Secondly, we use this deformation gradient history to predict the crystallographic deformation texture based on the Bishop-Hill theory. Renouard and Wintenberger' method is chosen for selecting the active slip systems. The predicted results have been compared with reported experimental results. The calculated results are in good agreement with their results.

  • Nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) structures is performed by using isogeometric Reissner-Mindlin (RM) shell element. The elasto-plastic constitutive model is employed to express the nonlinear behavior of concrete material and the equivalent smeared steel layer is introduced to represent steel reinforcement. The arc-length control method is used to produce the entire load-displacement path of RC structures. Finally, three benchmark tests are carried out to verify the performance of the present shell element. From isogeometric analysis, the present results show a good agreement with experimental results and it is provided as future benchmark test solutions.

  • A procedure which may be useful in dealing with problems of half plane is considered. Boundary elements are combined with nonlinear finite elements to facilitate their merits. Boundary elements for semi-infinite region are composed using the Melan's solution for half plane. Nonlinear finite elements are used to model irregularity or nonhomogeneity of elasto-plastic materials, which is usual in underground structures. In order to verify the procedure, a shallow tunnel under internal pressure is analysed using the nonlinear finite element method and combined method. It is shown that the developed procedure is accurate enough compared with other method.

  • Upper wall-lower frame(complex building) can be divided into three partition, namely, upper wall, lower frame, and transfer system which link two partitions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the elasto-plastic response characteristics of structures with variation in the stories of lower frame of complex buildings. The conclusions of this study was following; 1) In the push-over analysis for vertically irregular building, the distribution of lateral forces is judged which consider the effects of higher mode. 2) In proportion as the stories of lower frame increase inter-story displacement of lower frame increased, but that of upper wall decreased. 3) The appearance of yielding hinge with variations in the lower stories of complex buildings differed in lower frame of each model, but was almost the same in upper wall.
