Engineering properties such as compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity and Poisson's ratio of geopolymer concrete (GPC) and steel fibre reinforced geopolymer concrete (SFRGPC) have been obtained from standard tests and compared. A total of 15 specimens were tested for determining each property. The grade of concrete used was M 40. The percentages of steel fibres considered include 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% and 1%. In general, the addition of fibres improved the mechanical properties of both GPC and SFRGPC. However the increase was found to be nominal in the case of compressive strength (8.51%), significant in the case of splitting tensile strength (61.63%), modulus of rupture (24%), modulus of elasticity (64.92%) and Poisson's ratio (50%) at 1% volume fraction of fibres. An attempt was made to obtain the relation between the various engineering properties with the percentage of fibres added.
The shrinkage of large reinforced concrete floors often gives rise to cracking problems. To identify the problematic areas, shrinkage movement analysis is often carried out by finite element method with proper creep and shrinkage models using step-by-step time integration. However as the full stress history prior to the time interval considered is necessary, with the increase in the number of time intervals used, the amount of computations increases dramatically. Therefore a new method using the shrinkage-adjusted elasticity modulus (SAEM) is introduced so that analysis can be carried out using one single step. Examples are presented to demonstrate its usefulness.
In this study, the natural frequencies of the perforated square plate with a square penetration pattern are obtained as a function of ligament efficiency using the commercial finite-element analysis code ANSYS. In addition, they are used to extract the effective modulus of elasticity under an assumption of a constant Poisson's ratio. The effective modulus of elasticity of the fully perforated square plate is applied to the modal analysis of a partially perforated square plate using a homogeneous finite-element analysis model. The natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes of the homogeneous model are compared with the results of the detailed finite-element analysis model of the partially perforated square plate to check the validity of the effective modulus of elasticity. In addition, the theoretical method to calculate the natural frequencies of a partially perforated square plate with fixed edges is suggested according to the Rayleigh-Ritz method.

The elasticity tensor for water may be employed to model the fully saturated porous material. Mostly water is assumed to be incompressible with a bulk modulus, however, the upper and lower bounds of off-diagonal components of the elasticity tensor of porous materials filled with water are violated when the bulk modulus is relatively high. In many cases, the generalized Hill inequality describes the general bounds of Voigt and Reuss for eigenvalues, but the bounds for the component of elasticity tensor are more realistic because the principal axis of eigenvalues of two phases, matrix and water, are not coincident. Thus in this paper, for anisotropic material containing pores filled with water, the bounds for the component of elasticity tensor are expressed by the rule of mixture and the upper and lower bounds of fully saturated porous materials are violated for low porosity and high bulk modulus of water.

This paper presents the effects of cylinder shell elasticity on effective bulk modulus of oil $K_e$ in automotive hydraulic dampers. A theoretical model of cylinder shell bulk modulus $K_c$ based on the elasticity theory of thick-walled cylinder incorporating not only radial but longitudinal deformation is proposed. In a cylinder, values of $K_c$ by the new model and traditional models are computed and the discrepancies among them are discussed. In a twin-tube type automotive damper, the variation of $K_e$ under different pressure values in chambers of the damper cylinder, based on different theoretical models for $K_c$ is computed. Through these computations, it is shown that remarkable discrepancies in computed values of $K_e$ might occur according to the $K_e$ models in connection with $K_c$ models.

In order to utilize mass of oyster shells for a partial substitute material for reclamation, we investigate the shear characteristics of dredged sluge mixed with oyster shells. the apparent modulus of elasticity of the this mixture are obtained from the triaxial compression tests and is utilized to characterize the apparent modulus of elastic of the oyster shells by carrying out some numerical analysis based upon the homogenization theory. We got the conclusion by a series of experiment, 1) It is verified that modulus of elasticity of dredged clay is improved by mixing with oyster shells. 2) The homogenization method for deducing apparent modulus of elasticity of oyster shells, which can consider micro-structure of mixed soil, is introduced. The elastic modulus is affected from the skeleton structure of oyster shell. The effect of 49kPa is bigger than that of 98kPa.

A numerical analysis of cable-stayed bridge is conducted to determine optimum longitudinal modulus of elasticity which represents the boundary condition between the tower and main girder. The effect of longitudinal modulus of elasticity is investigated for different loading condition (live load, wind load, seismic load), respectively. There are significant changes in the member forces as variations of longitudinal modulus of elasticity, such as, $k_h$=e=100tonf/m/bearing (live load), $k_h$=e=1000tonf/m/bearing (seismic load), However, the wind loads do not affect member forces. The optimum longitudinal modulus of elasticity is determined from considering minimum member forces in the numerical analysis results.

In this study, the clay specimen of Busan-Gyeongnam region was used for unconfined compression test to compare the relationship formula between elasticity modulus at peak($E_f$), elasticity modulus at $q_u$/2($E_{50}$), and cohesion when the sample breaks down by region and by level of cohesion. As the result, the regional results were found to be in the range of $E_f$ = 14c~47c and $E_{50}$ = 43c~137c; by cohesion, the results for very soft ground was $E_f$ = 15c~40c and $E_{50}$ = 54c~101c, $E_f$ = 13c~63c and $E_{50$ = 40c~147c for soft ground, $E_f$ = 18c~47c and $E_{50}$ = 57c~144c for medium ground, and $E_f$ = 25c~45c and $E_{50}$ = 68c~115c for solid ground. The average of the relationship formula between elasticity modulus-cohesion for the clay used in this study was $E_f$ = 32c, $E_{50}$ = 93c. This is 2.5~5 times smaller than the existing relationship formula.
The dynamic modulus of elasticity of concrete can be determined nondestructively using impact echo test as prescribed in KS F 2437. The fundamental longitudinal frequency of the concrete cylinders with free-free boundary condition was estimated by the wavelet transform theory. The advantage of the wavelet transform over either a pure spectral or temporal decomposition of the signal is that the features of the pertinent signals can be characterized in the time-frequency plane. For the concrete mix design utilized in this study, no significant difference between the dynamic and the static moduli of elasticity was observed. This was contrary to the perceived general notion of having the dynamic modulus considerably higher than the static modulus. It has been shown that the modulus from static and dynamic by impact echo test are comparable to each other fairly well, when the effect of strain level was properly taken into account. In this experimental test, it was shown that the dynamic modulus is approximately equal to the tangent modulus at $1{\times}10^{-4}$ strain level.
Stress wave velocity, wave impedance, and stress wave elasticity of small, clear bending specimens of five domestic softwoods (Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis, Chamaecyparis obtusa, Cryptomeria japonica, and Larix leptolepis) and four tropical hardwoods(Kempas, Malas, Taun, and Terminalia) were correlated with static bending modulus of elasticity(MOE) and modulus of rupture(MOR). The degree of correlation between stress wave parameters and static bending properties was dependent on wood species tested. Stress wave elasticity and wave impedance were better predictors for static bending properties than stress wave velocity for each species individually and for softwood or hardwood species taken as a group, even though elasticity and impedance were nearly equally correlated with static bending properties apparently. Based upon the correlation coefficient between stress wave parameters and static properties, stress wave elasticity and wave impedance were found as stress wave parameters which can be used for the purpose of the reliable and successful prediction of bending properties. The degree of correlation between static MOE and MOR was also different according to wood species tested. Static MOE was nearly as well correlated with MOR as was stress wave elasticity. The results of this research are encouraging and can be considered as a basis for further work using full-size lumber. From the results of this study, it was concluded that stress wave measurements could provide useful predictions of static bending properties and was a feasible method for machine stress grading of domestic softwoods and tropical hardwoods tested in this study.
