  • This paper presents an sstimation of ARMA coefficients of noisy ARMA system using generalized total least square (GTLS) method. GTLS problem for ARMA system is defined as minimizing the errors between the noisy output vectors and estimated noisy-free output. The GTLS problem is solved in closed form by eigen-problem and the perturbation analysis of GTLS is presented. Also its recursive solution (recursive GTLS) is proposed using the power method and the covariance formula of the projected output error vector into the input vector space. The simulation results show that GTLS ARMA coefficients estimator is an unbiased estimator and that recursive GTLS achieves fast convergence.

  • The problem for parameters estimation of the received signals impinging on array sensors has long been of great research interest in a great variety of applications, such as radar, sonar, and land mobile communications systems. Conventional subspace-based algorithms, such as MUSIC and ESPRIT, require an extensive computation of inverse matrix and eigen-decomposition. In this paper, we propose a new parameters estimation algorithm via nonlinear minimization, which is simplified computationally and estimates signal parameters simultaneously.

  • Direction of arrival is estimating for desire signal direction among received signal on antenna in spatial. In this paper, we were an estimation a receiving signal direction of arrival using multi beam forming in radar. We proposed, by signal direction of arrival estimation method, an algorithm which combine spatial correlation matrix weight value and beam steering algorithm in this paper. Through simulation, we were analysis a performance to compare general algorithm and proposal algorithm. In direction of arrival estimation, proposed algorithm is effectivity to decrease processing time because it is not doing an eigen decomposition. We showed that proposal algorithm improve more target estimation than general algorithm.

  • The paper deals with the applications of spectral finite element method to the dynamic analysis of framed foundations supporting high speed machines. Comparative performance of approximate dynamic stiffness methods formulated using static stiffness and lumped or consistent or average mass matrices with the exact spectral finite element for a three dimensional Euler-Bernoulli beam element is presented. The convergence of response computed using mode superposition method with the appropriate dynamic stiffness method as the number of modes increase is illustrated. Frequency proportional discretisation level required for mode superposition and approximate dynamic stiffness methods is outlined. It is reiterated that the results of exact dynamic stiffness method are invariant with reference to the discretisation level. The Eigen-frequencies of the system are evaluated using William-Wittrick algorithm and Sturm number generation in the $LDL^T$ decomposition of the real part of the dynamic stiffness matrix, as they cannot be explicitly evaluated. Major's method for dynamic analysis of machine supporting structures is modified and the plane frames are replaced with springs of exact dynamic stiffness and dynamically flexible longitudinal frames. Results of the analysis are compared with exact values. The possible simplifications that could be introduced for a typical machine induced excitation on a framed structure are illustrated and the developed program is modified to account for dynamic constraint equations with a master slave degree of freedom (DOF) option.

  • In this paper, the performance of AP(Alternating Projection) and EM(Expectation Maximization) algorithms is investigated in terms of detection of multiple signals, resolvability of coherent signals and the efficiency of sensor array processing. The basic idea of these algorithms is utilization of relaxation technique of successive 1D maximization to solve a direction finding problem by maximizing the multidimensional likelihood function. It means that the function is maximized over only for a single parameter while the other parameters are fixed at each step of the iteration. According to simulation results, the algorithms showed good performance for both incoherent and coherent multiple signals. Moreover, some advantages are identified for direction finding with very small samples and fast convergence. The performance of AP algorithm is compared with that of EM using multiple criteria such as the number of sensor, SNR, the number of samples, and convergence speed over uniform circular array. It is resulted AP algorithm is superior to EM overally except for one criterion, convergence speed. Especially, for EM algorithm there is no performance difference between incoherent and coherent case. In conclusion, AP and EM are viable and practical alternatives, which can be applied to a direction under due to the resolvability of multi-path signals, reliable performance and no troublesome eigen-decomposition of the sample-covariance matrix.

  • This paper presents the Hessenberg method, a new sparsity-based small signal stability analysis program for large interconnected power systems. The Hessenberg method as well as the Arnoldi method computes the partial eigen-solution of large systems. However, the Hessenberg method with pivoting is numerically very stable comparable to the Householder method and thus re-orthogonalization of the krylov vectors is not required. The fractional transformation with a complex shift is used to compute the modes around the shift point. If only the dominant electromechanical oscillation modes are of concern, the modes can be computed fast with the shift point determined by Fourier transforming the time simulation results for transient stability analysis, if available. The program has been successfully tested on the New England 10-machine 39-bus system and Korea Electric Power Co. (KEPCO) system in the year of 2000, which is comprised of 791-bus, 1575-branch, and 215-machines. The method is so efficient that CPU time for computing five eigenvalues of the KEPCO system is 3.4 sec by a PC with 400 MHz Pentium IIprocessor.

  • This paper presents a gradient ON-OFF algorithm of which the performance is very robust even when the angle spread increases in the mobile communication environments. The proposed method getting the diversity gain by utilizing the primary and secondary eigenvector, which corresponds to the largest and the second largest eigenvalue of the autocovariance matrix of the received signal vector, outperforms the method which just utilizes one eigenvector. By applying the proposed method to IS-2000 1X signal environments, it is observed that the proposed method shows excellent performance compared to a typical beamforming method using just one eigenvector, which considerably degrades the receiving performance as the angle spread increases.

  • In this study size optimization of large-scale dome structures with dynamic constraints is presented. In the optimal design of these structure, the Jaya algorithm is used to find minimal size of design variables. The design variables are the cross-sectional areas of the steel truss bar elements. To take into account the constraints which are the first five natural frequencies of the structures, the finite element analysis is coded in Matlab programs using eigen values of the stiffness matrix of the dome structures. The Jaya algorithm and the finite elements codes are combined by the help of the Matlab - GUI (Graphical User Interface) programming to carry out the optimization process for the dome structures. To show the efficiency and the advances of the Jaya algorithm, 1180 bar dome structure and the 1410 bar dome structure were tested by taking into the frequency constraints. The optimal results obtained by the proposed algorithm are compared with those given in the literature to demonstrate the performance of the Jaya algorithm. At the end of the study, it is concluded that the proposed algorithm can be effectively used in the optimal design of large-scale dome structures.

  • This paper studies the free vibration behavior of trapezoidal shaped coupled double-layered graphene sheets (DLGS) system using first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and incorporating nonlocal elasticity theory. Two nanoplates are assumed to be bonded by an interlayer van der walls force and surrounded by an external kelvin-voight viscoelastic medium. The governing equations together with related boundary condition are discretized using a mapping-differential quadrature method (DQM) in the spatial domain. Then the natural frequency of the system is obtained by solving the eigen value matrix equation. The validity of the current study is evaluated by comparing its numerical results with those available in the literature and then a parametric study is thoroughly performed, concentrating on the series effects of angles and aspect ratio of GS, viscoelastic medium, and nonlocal parameter. The model is used to study the vibration of DLGS for two typical deformation modes, the in-phase and out-of-phase vibrations, which are investigated. Numerical results indicate that due to Increasing the damping parameter of the viscoelastic medium has reduced the frequency of both modes and this medium has been able to overdamped the oscillations and by increasing stiffness parameters both in-phase and out-of-phase vibration frequencies increased.

  • This paper presents a laboratory validation of a new approach for Finite Element Model Updating(FEMU) on short-span bridges by combining ambient vibration measurements with static load input-deflection output measurements. The conventional FEMU approach based on modal parameters requires the assumption on the system mass matrix for the eigen-value analysis. The proposed approach doesn't require the assumption and even provides a way to update the mass matrix. The proposed approach consists of two steps: 1) updating the stiffness matrix using the static input-deflection output measurements, and 2) updating the mass matrix using a few lower natural frequencies. For a validation of the proposed approach, Young's modulus of the laboratory model was updated by the proposed approach and compared with the value obtained from strain-stress tests in a Universal Testing Machine. Result of the conventional FEMU was also compared with the result of the proposed approach. It was found that proposed approach successfully estimated the Young's modulus and the mass density reasonably while the conventional FEMU showed a large error when used with higher-modes. In addition, the FE modeling error was discussed.
